Let's not forget there's two different kinds of noob. You've got newb which is a legit new player who might be making mistakes because they genuinely don't know a certain thing. As opposed to a noob, like a max level tank that can't hold aggro because they don't won't use tank stance.

A few that i haven't heard in a while: gank=a sneak attack/overpowered kill kite=to lead a mob in a way in which you can hit them but they can't hit you camp=waiting in a specific area for a mob/player.

MPK (Monster Player Kill) used to be a big one in FFXI. You basically tag a monster and run by a group of lower level players and the monster aggros onto the closest player. Fun times! Works in Ark: Survival Evolved as well =)

Gank -To attack from enemy from behind. -To get behind the enemy to ambush them.

So basically just "FLANK"?: *Flanking* is when you take advantage of cover to come up on the enemies blindspot to take them out, (from their side or behind). You usually flank your enemy to get behind them.

Knew almost all of these you should do one that has specific talk for individual games. Such as FC in FFXIV GC in FFXIV. A lot of others games have specifics that control them. Also Mechanic can also be Mech. and Spec / Specs for type of gear attributes. Link has two meanings one the mobs link, and two link an item in chat. Other than that great list.

Proc- derived from old coding speak (as I understand it) when an ability 'procs' an effect, it means you can now use a skill you normally can't or modifies an ability. Example, first starter is a BLM trait that procs off of Fire1, letting you insta-cast a free Fire3.

Yep, proc is short for Programmed Random Occurrence. So the PRO and ad the 'C' from occurence for 'proc'.

gcd - global dooldown, when multiple skills share a single cooldown timer. alternative to PST is PM - private message OT - can mean 2 things depending on context, one is Over Take, when another player takes aggro away from you, or it can mean Off Tank, so if a team has 2 tanks, one is the MT - main tank and the other one is off tank, whose job is to take over all the aggro if the MT dies, or if any mobs escape the MT's pull and their pull skills are on CD, the OT takes the aggro instead temporarily, basically tanking insurance. Alternative term for tank - meat shield bc/bk - just means "back" after being afk or brb IMHO - in my honest opinion, usually followed by "no one gives a frack about your opinion" and a bunch of flaming p2p/ptp - "peer to peer" , an archaic type of online connection or "pay to play", subscription based MMO games, I.E FFXIV, WoW GM - Game master, a person working for whatever company is publishing the game, they're are basically ingame administrators who always use the legendary weapon "The Ban Hammer" or "guild master" , literally just the leader of a guild.

Aoe - area of effect expands into PBAoE - point blank area of effect(blizzard 2), PBAoEDOT- point blank area of effect damage over time (maisma2) some old and forgotten ones xD.

Work To Game it's fairly old, it was originally written as PB-AE but with the evolution of gaming terminology it was evolved to PB-AoE. Same thing applies to AoE as it used to be written as AE. Edit: by old I'm talking nearly 20 years haha, first time I learned of it was during everquest which was 1999 or so, long time now haha.

Zerg -usually pvp or open world means to sneak or suddenly attack with everything you have and run away... Think "Guerilla Warfare"

Doesn't Zerg mean more or less to try and overwhelm the enemy with sheer numbers to overrun them? My understanding was that it came from the Zerg in Starcraft that had a strat to build as many possible small not particularly strong minions as fast as possible and then send that large force in before proper defenses could be built for that amount of enemies overwhelming the opponent, it is used to describe a more simple unsophisticated tactic usually called out as "let's just zerg them" for example. It could be seen as similar to nuke but not quite the same since nuke usually deals with abilities that hit hard and fast, and zerg deals with quantity of attackers.

I'm a bit stuck on the term "cooldown". Been playing ffxi and xiv for 10 years now and this term never came up until recently (at least for me ^^;)

+Elisabeth Smith ya there are 2 types. A cooldown (cd) is the time it takes for a skill to be available again so you can’t use it too often so that’s easy to grasp. The harder one is the gcd or global cooldown. Sometimes just called a global. It’s the delay before you can do any other action after a ability even if there is no cast time etc. These are added to multiplayer games to remove latency advantages. Some abilities are even “off the gcd” which means they can indeed be attempted as quickly as the server gets your request. You can see why this is big on dps abilities. Hope that helps.

You may have learned by now, but just in case. Cooldown is the time before an ability can be used again. In FFXIV, the term Cooldown is replaced with Recast. They mean the same thing. So White Mages ability Presence of Mind has a 150 second Recast time. That is the same as saying it has a 150 second cooldown. The terms mean the same and are interchangeable, though Recast time is FF exclusive so if you play WoW or most other MMO's, people will expect the term cooldown.

Work To Game this was in big use during FF11 so it maybe dated. Tended to be used by euro gamers mostly. Anthor one that comes to mind is W which was the Japanese way of doing lol, during the FFXI days.

Yeah... you are too young to remember all that!!! When we shared servers between NA and JP, and pt'd together, that's how they would laugh, and it caught on serverwide. It was nice to be able to communicate with someone that spoke a different language using autotranslate. I enjoyed your video. I think there were only a couple I didn't know. AoE: Area of effect. Buff: opposite of a nerf. It can also be a damage buff (multiplier) Ulti: Ultimate. Like a strong ability that usually has to be charged. Eg: Overwatch. ( My favourite game )
