your studying has definitely paid off! also I'm loving the corkboard diagram haha it's so fun! 3:50 not a spoiler to share the ages, it's given in the prologue of the book: Xie Lian was 17 the first time he ascended, the present day (3rd ascension) is about 800 years later. the time of the second ascension isn't specified yet, but it's implied it's closer to the first ascension that it is to the 3rd ascension 8:39 omg yes! thank you for recognizing how funny Xie Lian is 😂 I feel like a lot of people don't pick up on his humor right away but he's honestly so funny 27:22 Honestly no idea why they used "Green Amor" for the translation, the novels translate the name/moniker as "Night Touring Green Lantern", which is the most accepted translation in the fandom. I've also seen it translated as just "the Green Ghost" so do with that what you will! I can't express how much I'm enjoying your reactions, it reminds me so much of how I felt when watching the series for the first time! And thank you for the shout-out! I'm glad my comment on the first video was helpful! (and just be patient, you'll find out butterfly man's name... eventually :)

In my opinion the season 1 dub is good, but season 2 dub is top tier. The script and line delivery just hits so much better, especially in season 2 episodes 8 and 10. The dub in those two deliver so much emotion and power.

That's the bar now ;) An yeah the dub is good! I personally could absorve more information when reading the subs, so I prefer it. If you're interested, there're interviews with english voice actors after each season! Those are spoiler free regarding the books since they had not read them at the time of season1

I will definitely check out the interviews at the end of this season!! I personally prefer subs (original audio) for my shows, but I'm not confident enough to react to the chinese version because I'm so unfamiliar with the sounds and pace of the language... I don't read fast enough to both process and react 😅 But I'm enjoying rewatching and taking my time with the episodes after recording the reactions~

I'm happy you're enjoying this series! I love your corkboard. Season 1's dub is okay but, Butterfly Man's VA read the books and helped write the script for season 2 (so it gets way better! I really recommend it!) By the way are you interested in name meanings for the characters you've met so far?

@ you take as much time as you need to! Don’t let people pressure you into rushing through what you should be enjoying for yourself, first and foremost. The internet is a rowdy place with all its fandoms, and TGCF is no exception. It can be absolutely feral lol. And yes! Mo Dao Zu Shi (my spelling may not be accurate lmao) is the author’s other animated work, also known as The Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation. She also has Scum Villain’s Self Saving System, but that doesn’t have a quality animated adaptation, and is a whole thing unto itself, really lol.

i am soo glad you're continuing on the dub and i love that you are watching the sub as well. i think the duality will help you understand everything better. and also yes, you will be seeing Feng Xin and Mu Qing in all their glory in season 2. i know some people have their gripes with the dub, but i fell in love with the voices for both Xie Lian and the mystery butterfly man.

Great reaction yet again! Love the relationship board you made, very informative and helpful. I remember when I first started out reading Chinese literature I was super lost because everyone had too many names and titles but thankfully I got used to it after consuming so much of them, that's why when I picked up "Heaven Official's Blessing" I didn't have too much of a problem keeping up with the huge cast and their long list of names and titles. Love the board! 😂 As another commenter mentioned, Xie Lian has been around for about 800 years at this point, but he looks the same as he did when he first ascended because of his level of "cultivation" or spiritual training (this is a common trope in stories with spiritual cultivation). I should've done what you did and made a picture board because this show NEEDS a spreadsheet, holy crap. Instead I re-watched each episode like 2-3 times and then with the books I had to keep referencing the name list. Not only do Chinese animations use both first+last names, but also their God titles, maybe their mortal titles, and ALSO, some characters have 3+ names and appearances so, that's fun. Sorry to burst your bubble, but, you're gonna need a bigger board. Like. a lot bigger. Your Feng Xin/Mu Qing discussion is HILARIOUS, please tell us if you want actual answers to any of your theories. "There's so much beef between them they may as well just start a farm" LMAO, it's so true though. I love these idiots. You're also on point with their personalities; Feng Xin is my personal favorite. Side note the openings and the music in general for this show are GORGEOUS, and if you find the lyrics for it it's even sweeter, especially after you know the entire story. Then it might make you cry lol. The opening for this season is called "No Separation" or "Wu Bie".
