India followed British education system which was designed to develop Baboos(clerks) and Sepoys (soldiers) not the thinkers. Today, Indian system of education is an Industry, that churns out baboos and sepoys. Every great Indian scientist and mathematician who invented or developed something extraordinary, was educated in the West, a free world that teaches you how to think outside of your box on your own.

yes they do have better idea than him, unlike him..... problem is that who ever challenge us to think against our belief is disliked and I am no exception but... but I and others like me will try and retrospect; not everyone does that because its not in their syllabus... to retrospect :(. Anyway hope everyone... everyone regardless of religion, caste, creed, country and political views get together then this world could be still a better place to live.

He really brings up an important point that needs to be made aware of, as an American I can say that I see this problem everyday but i now realize how big it really is. Really great person in India. I probably seen him once or twice in BLR AOL ashram. My roommate Robin was really a fan of him... I always thought about -2 x -3 = 6, why? His explanation is simply awesome. I thought before that, if we say "getting" as +ve, then "not getting" will be -ve. Now, not of "not getting" will be "getting" according to logic, so in this case it will be +ve. If i have 0 apples, and i have to give 2 apples each to 3 persons, then i will have -2x3=-6 apples. Now, if i have to give 2 apples to -3 persons, then it does not make any sense. It can only make sense, if negative number of persons means they don't take apple, but actually give apples. So my giving of apples becomes taking of apples (-2x-3=6 in this case) in my part.

The explanation for why -2x-2 = +4 was explained very well in a video lecture by James Tanton in his lecture series on Algebra for the Amazon State University. In his lecture he demonstrates by drawing rectangles, which unfortunately cannot be done here in a comment. Let us take the simple problem of multiplication of two numbers, say 12 x 15 It can be visualized as the area of a RECTANGLE whose sides are 12 and 15 respectively. Since this is pretty straight-forward we easily know it is 180 sq. units Alternately we can view one side as (10+2) units and the other side as (10+5) Units. So in multiplication we get (10+2) x (10+5) = 100+20+50+10 = 180 sq.units …. (A) NOW TO KNOW WHAT IS MINUS X MINUS Consider 12 to be written as (20-8) AND 15 to be written as (20-5) So what is (20-8)x(20-5) First 20X20 = 400. ………. (B) Next -8x20 = -160. ………. (C) Then 20x-5 = -100. ………. (D) NOW LET (-8)X(-5) BE = ‘m’ without assigning any sign. Now totaling (B), (C) & (D) we get 400-160-100 =140 So TOTAL = 140 AND ‘m’ and we don’t know the sign of ‘m’ But from (A) we know 140 AND m = 180 So. m = 180-140 = +40 So (-8) x (-5) = +40. And two minuses when multiplied gives a plus.

In mathematics concepts are develope from one another. In my last year's at school I sat up front so I was not distracted. The teacher would develop a concept that would send My mind swirling and singing. I loved this but that all happened in five minutes. The next 30 I sat and listened to rambling. I went home with a friend thatscoredhigh, and try to relearn what had thrilled me. It was gone as he didn't dream mathematics, he learned It like a musical score and finally failed but not as a musician.
