Great tips as always. To be a good fisherman it's 25% attitude, 25% acquired knowledge and skill, 50% luck. The 25 percenters are key to landing those fish consistently. With all that said mental adittude is key. I have been back to fishing since last year after a 12 year break. I never leave mad or discouraged even when I have zero catches with hours on the water. I take it for what it is,being outdoors in nature relaxing and having fun doing some exciting. Cause when you hook a fish and feel the fight no matter if you reel it in or not that feeling is addicting in a good way.

Last summer I spent 45 minutes fighting a ‘heavy weight’ bite in the surf. Kept coming in, going back out. Had to be careful not to snap the line. Swore it was a skate or horseshoe crab. The fight ended and I pulled in - a whole pineapple! I have the pics to prove it.

Final update: this little reel is the little engine that could kzbin.infoUgkxSlytCJqozTF7EbdP4LWP-HUXf9WRDJ0e . It performed flawlessly and was easy to adjust drag in the moment while I was battling a 35lb bat ray behemoth. Mind you, this reel is spooled with only 25 lb braid and 25 mono topshot. It's paired with the kastking telescopic heavy power rod and the two work well together. This has now earned my respect and confidence when traveling and fishing. If you have ever hooked into large rays and sharks, you know they pull extremely hard and can run forever! This thing clamped down on the fish and was easy to adjust during the fight. It has a nice decently fast retrieve as well. Twice the fish went on mad runs and I was able to gain back line quickly to avoid spooling.

Too funny! I just watched a video where someone left a snarky comment about their long winded intro. Then you do it. Too funny. Oh, and thanks for showing videos which apply to us 99% who don't go fishing in 50K$ boats pulled by 70K$ dollar trucks using 400$ reels on 700$ poles. (and yes, those prices do exist - I know from shopping). Most of use basic equipment we can afford - from the shoreline.

On the wood tip.... then your lure gets stuck 1 feet away in the wood at 2 feet deep, its 33 degrees out and you watch your 10 dollar lures slowly melt away from your grasp. haha. Happened to me yesterday. I went in the water... it was only a 1/2mile walk back to the car, in wet shoes and pants.

@@laneshirley3706 i know im not the one you wanted advice from, but I live right next to a fishing resort, and the best thing i can say is find out what the bass prey on. In my case it is usually bluegill in the summer, then shad in the colder months, and crawfish in spring. Once you match the lure to what they are feeding on at the time it is easy to catch one. Another thing i can also say is patience, ive gone 2 hours with out a bite at spot i know is good, then out of no where BOOM got smacked by an 8 pounder and got my pb

I have to say that I absolutely love watching your videos! I’ve been fishing all my life and I still find that I learn something every time I watch one of your videos even if it’s something I’ve already learned before. What I mean by that is that sometimes you forget some of the basics or you develop bad habits. Your videos often remind me that maybe the way I’ve been doing things are not always the best way and getting reminded through your videos of those basics helps me to continue to grow as a fisherman. I watched BASS RESOURCES video on how to detect a bite, and he did describe how it might feel and all. Personally, the best way to know is by finding out yourself. The more bites you get, the more you’ll know how they feel. And I also agree with stopping when you think you have a bite. I stop and lightly lift my rod to try and feel the fish move. Great video!

Nathan, I doubt you will see this, but yeah. My all-time personal best was a 9lb+ bass I caught on a jitterbug in 1977. She rolled on it but my line didn't move a centimeter. only when I twitched it a couple of times did I realize I had a frickin' donkey on the line. I didn't feel her take it or nudge it. And the weird thing? I only had her cheek fouled...with only one treble tine. It was heart-pounding for 8 minutes until I landed her.

Awesome video! Wish I had something similar to this growing up. Can't tell you how many times I asked my dad how I would know if something is a bite when fishing a new lure. Watching your line is probably the most important tip on here. Especially fishing a jig or a flipping bait. I always have slack line when fishing these lures so watching my line is how I catch most of my fish on those lures. Also I won my first club tournament with a 4lb 12oz in late March because I was watching my line. Had slack and saw my line taking off to the right. Reeled in the slack and set the hook. Caught my only fish that day and it was good enough to win.

Such a great video on many aspects. First off...Beard is awesome. 🧔🏻Second, I love the Nostalgia of the Power Worm. This was all great food for thought. Very simple but unique. I've never seen a video quite like this. I can't thank you enough for consistently making awesome fishing videos even in the dead of winter. Your editing is remarkable and your clips are perfectly executed into what you are conveying at the moment. And those topwater bites 😮😮

I started fishing for the first time this year. I had this problem, and could not catch a fish. Then I decided to switch to braid, and my first outing I caught my first bass, it felt soooo much different with the sensitivity and also I could cast further.

The problem I have with plastic worms at my local pond is that I get tons of small fish that bite. They're always grabbing just the tail. Tired of setting my hook on every cast and never getting the big one.
@DEBOSFishing

You may try going a bit smaller then. That way they can get the whole meal in one bite. It could also be bluegill...they're notorious for stealing tails!

The turtle that felt like a tree limb. Only time I ever caught something that was pissed off at me. Bit like a bluegill. Little ticky tack nip bites, then started to crawl away. Set the hook. Nearly broke my rod.
