It is a valid problem, it’s just that they wouldn’t use pronouns to fix it. If a woman wanted to be perceived as a man, the most likely course of action would be to conceal your gender as much as possible and just pretend to be a guy. That is something a person could actually come up with.

My god, the dialogue is worse than I thought... I figured people were exaggerating and it would at least be on par with DA:Inquisition. The tone and dialogue is so jarring, it's like going from Saints Row 3 directly to Saints Row (Reboot).

Saints Row reboot is better than Dragon age Veilguard. At least Saints Row reboot is focused on comedy (talking about waffle makers and stuff) and set in modern times, but Dragon Age Veilgaurd takes itself very seriously and is set in a medieval fantasy setting where this type of dialogue feels VERY out of place. Dragon Age Veilguard is HORRIBLE. What's worse is that if a player tries to avoid all the woke Taash side missions, later in the game the game directly calls the player out on avoiding all the woke Taash side missions. The main character says the wrong gender because they didn't do any of the Taash side missions to know which gender to say and then gets lectured to by various characters). This is so much worse than Saints Row Reboot (the biggest offense in that Saints Row game was some unfunny waffle jokes and some unfunny jokes about one of the characters not wearing a shirt, but at least they are attempting comedy. Dragon age Veilgaurd directly insults the player and isn't joking about it.

Something that never gets mentioned amid the god awful dialogue is how shite the animations are. They are like rigid animatronics directing their lifeless gaze towards whoever is 'centre stage' at that moment, so to speak. Unnatural and less than amateur animation quality.

For me the issue is not that the gender identity stuff is there, its that its done very poorly and without any effort to even attempt to make it fit into the setting. This exact dialogue is something you could easily hear in a game set in 21st century - and thats not a good thing.

The problem with Taash is that she is too angsty and aggressive to really care about her problems. If the developers really wanted to educate viewers about non-binary people, they should have made her character more likeable. The petulant teenager with an identity crisis wasn't a great approach. And in my opinion, defeats the objective of raising awareness of gender issues.

I’m enjoying this game a lot, but this storyline rubs me the wrong way. Why does Taash acting masculine mean she can’t be a woman? Is her issue with being a woman, or with what people expect a woman to be? I mean, the second time we meet her mom, she goes out of her way to point out that Taash “acts more like a man.” Would Taash still be nonbinary if Shathann didn’t shame her so much for being masculine?
