That's not hardship Phil, spinning around the fields a nice day, on the 35 with full air conditioning, at one with nature. Hardship would be the day you were trying to agitate the slurry store. The finger bar is some job. Theres great growth there now, so you would want to get the finger(bar) out and keep topping. Keep on keeping on.

Fingerbar or sicklebar mowers were and are good in thin or straight standing crops like non lodged grass or lucerne etc but onheavy grass they choked. In the USA the likes of John deere, new holland make Fingerbar mowers up to 20ft and are easy to drive,they even do self propelled models. They're calledhaybines and to avoid blocking they're equipped with reels like a combine.

That fingerbar mower left a lovely finish Phil!! Better than our Fleming topper anyway, great machine but toppers really do bash the grass. only for fact we cover very small acres I'd change it for a disc mower but if I could get a nice pierce fingerbar it'd sit well on my David Brown 880 👌

Hello, Phil! I hope I'm not causing offence by mentioning another KZbin farmer on your fine Channel, but I've just watched Tom Pemberton checking the quality of his grass in England, and it looked mighty technical to me. Sheets of analysis and figures and whatnot. All nitrate and sugar and protein percentages... I was just wondering if you do the same thing. I appreciate that getting the timing right for cutting is crucial, so do you judge it by eye and experience, or send off samples to be analysed?
@FARMERPHIL36904 жыл бұрын
no offence at all i watch his videos myself and have seen that video, we do test our grass before harvesting to see what the nitrates are like and on the sugars they vary on the time of the day as the sugars are higher in the grass in the evening rather than the morning. we also test our silage too see what balancing ration we need to feed to our finishers

Great video phil, why dont ye buy a bladed topper, like a 9ft abbey trailed, very easy to control height as it's on a screw that keeps the hydraulic ram up, much easier and less important if you hit a stone and break something, we all know how expensive a brand new bed is for a silage mower
