Someone shared a screenshot of your twitter handle on his page, and I searched for it, which eventually landed me on your KZbin channel. The thing you wrote was about how comparison can lead to depression. Well, I was in that phase, and now, after spending more than 2hours watching various videos on your channel, I want to say a VERY BIG THANK YOU FOR THE LIGHT YOU SHARE. Keep the good work because you are definitely touching lives out here🙏❤

After 21 years in the US military, and 21 years in a civilian job (all in same career field), I am now "retired-retired" and considering pursuing a professional doctorate (DBA). However, my pursuit is not for any job related reason, but more of a personal challenge for self-satisfaction… and to help keep my brain active and engaged - which is important at my age (66). I have the free-time, and the means, and initially considered a 2nd Masters, but would either really be worth pursuing?

I've got a legit question guys 🖐🏽. When most people talk about "Masters" degrees it's usually implied as a follow up to a particular field of study like an Engineering, Biology, Chemistry, Accounting etc not so much Business. MBAs are essentially a Masters in Business (To state the obvious). But in conversations I've had I feel most people see an MBA as arbitrary and not really a "Masters" to a field of study, unless of course your field of study is in Business or Finance. Does an MBA require the same considerations you guys want people to take before they make the investment in a "Masters" degree?
@olufemiagbato85195 жыл бұрын
If the question isnt clear enough see it this way; Think of a certain Pretty Lady who Studied Industrial and Systems Engineering who has a well paying Job, she is thinking of going back to school. Her 2 choices; a Masters in Advanced Systems Engineering or an MBA. Do they require the same considerations?
@konnectafrik28095 жыл бұрын
Olufemi Agbato You’re right. There’s a common misconception that MBAs are somewhat different from Masters. They are both advanced degrees. However, their use-cases can be quite different. I do recommend that both should be given similar considerations before embarking on the journey of an advanced degree. Why? Because whether it’s a Masters or an MBA, the end goal should be clearly understand or at least somewhat outlined....to prevent mistakes or wasting one’s time in the wrong path.

My reason for choosing a Masters is to change my field. I did Industrial Chemistry in my Undergrad and I plan to do Chemical Engineering in Grad School. I've always had passion for Engineering and I would be looking to get a job after my Masters. I'm not sure I want to do a Ph.D jare.

Im worried that by choosing to get a PhD I wont be compensated enough doing what I love. I love research that applies to the medical field and am choosing between a PhD and MD OR trying for the MD/PhD. it appears that the MD/PhD is nearly impossible to get. And I'm worried about that. but with a PhD alone, I'm scared the financial pay off isn't enough money for the amount of years and work put in. I lie in NYC cost of living is HIGH lol. What are your thoughts?

As an engineer with both a bachelor's and master's degree in engineering, it depends. I've worked with tons of engineers without even a bachelor's degree but they are the best in their field. But I've also worked with people with bachelor's and master's degrees. The degree does give you a foundation but every company is different and you pretty much go back to training again. Like Chi chi said, you need to look past school and what jobs are out there that you want.
@konnectafrik28095 жыл бұрын
nertwigg 100% agree. Foundation can be provided with the degree. But majority of the expertise comes from on the job training/learning.
@nertwigg5 жыл бұрын
@@konnectafrik2809 Exactly! More people need to explore the jobs and market out there before making that commitment. This is something that schools lack in informing students but is it the school's responsibility though?

Thank you for this video.What advice would you give someone who wants to get a master's a totally unrelated field,I studied Agriculture in Undergrad but I have always loved to volunteer and work with communities and as much as I love Agriculture I would love to work in the international development scene.
@annondemand66075 жыл бұрын
The main thing would be to understand what the current requirements (educational and skillwise) are for role in the intl dev scene. Eg what would a job in that role look like? Are there current openings? If yes, what do they require? Also, look to discuss with someone in that field and get a sense of their experience so far...aka what skillset do they leverage to do their job etc.
@annondemand66075 жыл бұрын
understanding these factors better will help provide clarity on whether going ahead with the masters is the best next step
