All the rear o2 sensors do is monitor the catalyst. It seems to be running rich probably because you knocked the catalyst out. All that spacer is going to do is prevent your engine light from coming on.

Are you kidding me? Drink another six pack of Bubba beer. Why do you think the call them O2 sensors. Oxygen sensors monitor the exhaust oxygen content before and after the catalytic converter, and the engine control unit uses this information to adjust the fuel injection so as to prevent the first (NO x reduction) catalyst from becoming oxygen-loaded, while simultaneously ensuring the second (HC and CO oxidation) catalyst is sufficiently oxygen-saturated.

@@deerhunter8533 on this I'd say yeah. On some modern configs the downstream is sometimes used for some engine management data

Yes that spacer works for those people who has 30 days to pass smog inspection. Eventually The cat needs replacement, otherwise the car is polluting toxic gases everyday.

Your Jeep wasn’t running rich… your smelling all the unburnt fuel coming out of the exhaust that the catalytic convert was supposed to burn. That’s what they do.
@NickG
@NickG Жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. The O2 sensor oxidizes a portion of the oxygen as it comes through the exhaust system. That reading is then turned into a voltage signal that is sent back to the engine control computer, which then adjusts fuel metering and timing to maintain an optimum mixture. In short it can make your engine run lean or rich. Too rich and uncombusted fuel can enter the exhaust. I guess we were both right.
@curtiswlkr
@curtiswlkr Жыл бұрын
@@NickG that’s what the upstream o2 sensor does. The downstream sensor only monitors the efficiency of the catalytic converter.
@curtiswlkr
@curtiswlkr Жыл бұрын
Even if your engine is running with the proper fuel mixture, it will still smell “rich” because there’s no cat to burn up and convert the unburnt fuels that made it through the combustion process in the cylinder.
