Do you need an OTF? OTFs are a special segment of pocket knives that often have restrictions on them in different jurisdictions. I discuss their practicality and use and whether you should add them to your knife collection. We also discuss a kydex sheath from Linos and its use with the UTX-85.

I have a UTX85 with the satin finished drop point blade in CTS 204p. It is razor sharp. I'll probably send it in for sharpening when the time comes. I love this little knife, but I'm probably at the end of my out the front buying. Some of the Benchmades are tempting, but problems with them seem to be common. I have a Benchmade AFO II tanto blade which is just perfection though. For hunting I carry either my Fallkniven H-1 or S-1 in VG10, and a Leatherman Skeletool RX. In the truck is a roll of Wusthoff knives and saws if I need them. Usually they don't come out until I get home.

The UTX 85 is growing on me. But I am really not a fan of the OTF knifes.

Fine review. I enjoyed this OTF presentation. The only CA legal auto is restricted to 1.15 inches. I carry a 3 inch, beefy SOG Kiku XR. I can conceal a larger knife up to 4 inches but I may use it for self defense only in a life or death situation.

Interesting that my Microtech OTF has the word UT-X85 and feature only 5 screws. But it does have the 10/2010 date code and serial #01955. Plus all the logos and markings seems nicely printed. Oh well, maybe it's a ultra counterfeit or an outdated design at least it still function well.

They are different knives. Like I said in the video, I think they are a gateway into the world of OTF knives. The UTX-85 is a manageable size at a good entry point price wise.

I prefer a smaller auto. Love the Ultratechs but I may have to get a UTX-85.

My utx just has the plain blade. It really looks like an edc tool and doesn’t have that murder weapon look that might get unwanted attention if you carry it lol (they do look cool though)Mine is used like a normal pocket knife so the plain blade is perfect for me. I love my microtech

I have a UTX85 double edge. I like the knife. Wish I would have bought the tanto version instead. Daggers are not good cutting tools... lol
