I'm not a fan boy for any brand, but I do have to say that just like an m16 or m4 vs the AK 47...having owned all 3 and many knifes...there is a reason why the Ak is harder to jam and stop in most cases than the other...if your tolerances are to tight and there is no play, then you get gunked up and jammed up quicker

MICROTECH does put out more blade configurations and variations with their otf’s. Single edge, double edge, tanto, etc. They also use different blade finishes like satin, stonewashed, mirrored, blackout. They offer two-tone with or without full serrations or semi serrations on their blades. Imho the best serrations on the market. Microtech uses a variety a different colors for their aluminum handles and step it up for special editions to carbon fiber and customized anodized fittings/hardware. They also use more exotic steels and Damascus on their oft’s and give the user more options. None of the competitors offer such variety. Not to mention the various blade grinds and angles that are second to none. The detail on microtech otf blades are by far superior to all other production otf knives on the market to date.
@NikeaTiber5 жыл бұрын
Microtech is the "gold standard" of otf knives, probably because they popularized them, so every other otf gets compared to them. A few manufacturers are on par or better, some are worse, and everything gets more complicated when you throw pricing into the mix. I was looking at the phaeton, but for me it came down to the ultratech being available in m390, and also having wider blade stock. I also dislike the proprietary screws, they don't serve any useful purpose, especially if loctite was neglected during assembly. In the end, a well made knife is a well made knife, no matter what brand is on it.
@asianky1e306 жыл бұрын
The only reason I like the Microtech more is due to the blade proportion look. But other than that, I completely agree with you on the Microtech argument! I still hold that Benchmade charges WAY too much.

The main reason I prefer microtech to the infidel is the microtech has a stronger lock in my experience and my infidel seemed to be more sensitive to getting too dirty to properly operate. I work in a sawmill though, it's not common for a knife to be exposed to the amount of dust, hydraulic oil and frigid temperatures they see in my pocket. I also beat on my work knives pretty bad. The microtech holds up really well to moderate use.

Honestly, I concur. Both companies make great knives, however most Microtech's OTF's are too stiff. I tried opening the Cypher with one hand to no avail, I had to use both hands. Great point about the traction. Most knives I will not buy if it's too smooth to hold onto with very few exceptions. Benchmade service and warranty is flawless. They care about doing the right thing for the consumer and honoring that committment. I don't know if Microtech can match that. Lastly, with Microtech, you're paying for the name. Other makers are making factually superior guitars and pistols but there’s a comfort and satisfaction of the “original”. Quasi religious “fan boys” are IMO a completely separate category, and I’ve no explanation for them. That’s what I think.

The Kershaw was as good IMO as the small Protechs, but the Protech Don wasn't working out due to the little "scabbard" things catching in my pocket. I like the look and design and quality of the Microtech, but the deployment is ridiculously stiff. If it gets easier to open and close that could make it a keeper, otherwise I dunno.

I agree on the tool though. If your going to use custom hardware include the tool. I think that's there way of preventing nonmechanical people to disassembling there knives and sending them back in pieces. You have to be committed if you go out of your way to buy or make a tool I suppose. The people who don't know what they are doing may think twice and send it in instead of ruining there blade.

I own benchmade..love em..I own microtech..love em more..and yes microtech is stiff but not a problem for a man...and microtech is built better in my opinion..and I actually carry and use my knives they are not safe queens

I think they are both quality knives. My experience has been that my utx-85’s deploy just a little easier than my infidel and mini infidel, however, they all are easy to deploy in my opinion.

I hate to admit it but I've been carrying and Ultratech clone for 2 years now and love it so much im considering buying the real deal.

I have a UTX-85 and the Phaeton. IMO The Benchmade is a much better edc since it lacks the glass breaker. Absolutely love the jimping on the Benchmade too. I still think the microtech is a great blade but the benchmade is arguably better

I like my Microtechs. They are fun and carry well. Even my cypher. No other knife that size carries that easy. The biggest beef I have is the hardware. If you use an OTF like I do they are going to get dirty and not deploy properly. Microtech says to blow it out with compressed air and spray REM oil on it. If all you have is pocket lent that might work. But dirt, blood, grease and other stuff doesn’t blow out. Now you can pay shipping and send it in to Microtech. If I can take apart my CRK and clean it why can’t I be trusted with the Microtech?

BM infidel is a smooth deployer, currently trying out MT ultratech/M390 . A bit stiffer but no prob and bits for the hardware is available.

Not sure how much value I can put into a rant from a guy saying "we couldn't deploy the microtech". I can definitely value your opinion though

I hear you lol! We could open it but it was incredibly stiff.
@handsclasped6 жыл бұрын
What I think is... my Microtech is so stiff I can hardly operate it sometimes, their LUDT is much better than their OTF knives. I'd say Benchmade in a sec if you compared them, I never owned a Benchmade OTF, but have played with one owned by a friend. Nice stuff you got, keep telling the truth. You may save someone else from much frustration. Thanks AS

I think the H&K/Benchmade Epidemic is as good as any Microtech knife I have owned. It is also way cheaper in price than most Microtechs.

just got me a marfione cypher od green today, and the sound at 3:28, when in my hand, it felt definite and with purpose. Then it hit me, this knife has a theatrical aspect to it. I could see me 'playing this knife' like an instrument with its loosened part in a scenario where I want to raise the tension, or create subtle awareness that 'hey, I've got a knife in my hand' or 'is he holding a knife, what is that sound?' or ... basically, the modern version of the good 'ol ('bad boy') switchblade/butterfly of the 80s
@waynepalmer67434 жыл бұрын
Yes im sorry but microtech is a high quality blade no doubt. But the price point is just to high. I mean the smallest one will set you back 200$ plus. I think they are the Harley Davidson of the knife world. Your paying for the name.
