Warning to anyone with sensitive skin: This is a very intense routine so be careful if you want to copy it. Glycolic Acid and pure Vitamin C can both irritate sensitive skin, so make sure to take the time to really patch test these ingredients before using them on your whole face and together.

I don't particularly have sensitive skin, but I use only one active at a time to not irritate my skin. People exfoliate a little too much these days. For me it's mandelic acid at night twice a week and the day after I don't use my glycolic acid toner, only my vitamin c moisturizer and sunscreen. I'm terrified of irritation especially because I like in a hot, humid, sunny place (all year around). If the skin burns it's extra bad.

Ms Yara what is your take on PHa's in place of AHA's for those of us who have sensitive skin and would the routine be similar if the Pha is used?
@SusanYara3 жыл бұрын
I personally don’t think PHAs replace AHAs. If you have sensitive skin, I would rather someone try mandelic acid. PHAs are super gentle and I love them in a lot of my hydrating products or in combination with other exfoliants, but don’t consider them to be true exfoliants.

Great video. Is glycolic acid better form of exfoliator than lactic acid?
@SusanYara3 жыл бұрын
Not necessarily! Lactic acid is great because it’s still really strong, but just slightly more gentle than glycolic. It also helps increase hydration and ceramide production in the skin, so if you want exfoliation, hydration, and glow, then lactic acid is it. The benefit of glycolic acid is that it penetrates deeper and at the right percent/pH, it can stimulate fibroblasts that can produce collagen. They also work well together in formulas!

The SPF cream Susan used had Niacinamide in it so would that interfere with the vitamin C she used? I’ve read that you can’t mix Vitamin C with niacinamide because weaken their effectiveness when combined. That’s why so much layers can be intimidating, especially with creams that carry a multitude of ingredients in one because you have to look at each one to make sure they don’t interfere with the other serums youre layering them with.

Can very dark skin of color use glycolic acid?
@SusanYara3 жыл бұрын
I think every skin tone can use glycolic acid. You might have heard that skin of color can easily get hyperpigmentation, so you just have to ease into strong actives like glycolic acid to make sure you’re not causing unnecessary stress on the skin that leads to dark spots. It’s easy to do with glycolic acid since it’s the strongest of the AHAs and has the smallest molecule to penetrate deeper. That doesn’t mean you have to avoid it though. Just pay attention and don’t push it.
@kita32563 жыл бұрын
@@SusanYara thanks
@fatimawadee42403 жыл бұрын
Can you use glycolic acid for darker skin of colour like Indian skin? Some skincare experts advise against use of glycolic acid for darker skins due to possible burning because the molecules are so small.

Would glycolic acid be helpful in addressing flakiness associated with dehydrated skin? I’m oily, but because of my damaged skin barrier, my flakiness shows up when I put on makeup.
