Been with Progressive for years with lots of different bikes. I can say from personal experience they handle claims very well. back in 2012 I got cut off by a drunk driver went down, but I was able to ride the bike home, my claim went smooth and fast, I did help a bit I got a picture of the driver before the cops hauled him off in handcuffs, I got a picture of the car, its plates and vin number plate plus a picture of the scene and me and my scrapes and cuts. I wasn't able to get license or insurance info at the scene he was arguing with cops at the time. The lady whom handled my case was delighted I had pictures of everything. His insurance company tried to trip me up on the phone but I had my facts straight, I got a nice settlement I didn't get greedy just my bills covered and some for my "suffering" I did miss two days of work. I was wearing my gear too, jacket, helmet and on that day I had my road racing boots on, the ones with the extra padding and slider plates. my knee got scraped a bit, now I wear knee armor. So to answer your question in my opinion Yes and its a requirement in most states.Interesting fact New Hampshire and Virginia don't require it, but you are still responsible for any damage you cause. I was also surprised Michigan has the highest costs of insurance I thought for sure California would be it, Michigan has no fault insurance and you are required to have Personal Injury Protection coverage for you and your passengers. I'm doing an article on auto insurance so I have been doing some research, sorry for the long post 😆 BTW I was in a car accident last year it took six months for everything to be finalized, my car insurance is with a different company when that policy expires I'll switch it over to Progressive, there rates are about the same.

In Pennsylvania you aren’t leaving the dealership without insurance. You aren’t getting a plate without insurance. And if you try to be slick and get insurance to buy the bike and drop it the next day, Pennsylvania will be alerted that you dropped coverage and will demand the plate back.

Saw this title - exploded slightly - wrote a comment while listening to it - then became kind of confused... Dan, can you explain the US system slightly in terms of what levels there are and what you need to ride? For example, in the UK we have: 3rd Party: A legal minimum - you CANNOT use a vehicle on the public road with this. It means that if you cause an accident, your insurers pay for everyone else, but not you. 3rd party, fire and theft: Same as above, but they will also pay if your bike is damaged (hence, fre) or stolen. Comprehensive: The full option - even if you are at fualy the insurance will pay for everyone, including you, up to the maximum of the policy. Riding/Driving over here without a valid insurance policy will see your vehicle impounded, possibly destroyed and your license revoked. And it's a great thing, as being hit by an uninsured driver is a blood y nightmare.
@ENJ4321
@ENJ4321 5 жыл бұрын
3rd party here in the USA is called liability, it's pretty much the same as over there. Here you can use it as the least amount of coverage you can get. You can ride using liability only, but it isn't smart. If something happens you aren't covered under liability, it just pays money to the other party in an accident...but not the rider. The second is collision, it covers everything from damages caused to both vehicles...to other property. The other is Comprehensive. That covers in the fact that somebody steals your bike(or car), a tree falls on it, or anything happen to it that are unforeseen occurrences. You can even bundle the coverage on your bike and have Comprehensive and Liability...or Comprehensive and Collision etc etc.
@pirateadam3686
@pirateadam3686 5 жыл бұрын
@@ENJ4321 Ah, that makes a lot more sense. For a minute I thought you legitamtely had the option to just ride without insurance at all, which tripped lots of alarm bells. Seriously though, get insurance. I've been off my bike for 5 months thanks to lowsiding it after hitting a pothole! They said it was an 'at fault' claim (i.e. my fault = by bye, no claim bonus) because they couldn't recover the costs from anyone. If I didn't have Comprehensive then i'd be paying myself (not sure what level you'd need in theUS for that sort of thing). Shit happens.
@Cody_Ramer

@pirateadam3686
@pirateadam3686 5 жыл бұрын
@@Cody_Ramer Really? But, how does that work? If you get hit (in that state) by someone with no insurance and they zoom off, what do you do: 1) The driver is caught? 2) The driver is not caught?
@Cody_Ramer
@Cody_Ramer 5 жыл бұрын
Adam Hughes if the driver is caught then you can take them to court and get the money. If they are not caught you fix the bike yourself. But that but you are required to have insurance on a car. So they would go to jail for hit and run and a huge fine for no insurance and have to pay you for hit and running you. Same thing with liability only insurance. If you have liability only if your car or motorcycle get hit and runned you have to fix it yourself if the person is not caught. Your Liability insurance protects other people your comprehensive and collision insurance protects you.

Massachusetts requires you to have insurance or your registration gets suspended. There can be over a $2000.00 difference on MC insurance between basis and full. Now New Hampshire is 10 minutes up the road and they don't require you to have insurance on any owned vehicle that is registered for the road
