Just a public service announcement. Its not a good idea to "top off" your gas like that. It counter intuitively usually hurts "true" MPG (I.e. not what the gauge says you are getting, but amount of gas put in the car / miles driven to empty). What you are doing there is allowing gas to overflow into what's called a carbon filter. This filter is only designed for gas vapor and soaking it with gas liquid allows it to wastefully evaporate at worst (causing the less true MPG) , or damage your filter and performance at worst.

That’s awesome you bought a stinger!! I’m getting one this Monday a 2018 GT2 red one!! Can’t wait to customize it what a great car I wish it had a manual mode but eh still can paddle shift. I’m gonna install K&N intakes and Borla S exhaust for sure though to get way more growl and a small bump in HP and performance! I also use to have a Maserati ghibli. Looks like we have the same taste in cars!

Just drove my 2019 stinger 65 hours 3500 miles mostly highway, some city, some lengthy stops where i was stuck in traffic. Averaged 29.8 mpg over the entire trip. Straight highway it got 32 mpg at 75 mph 87 octane. No difference in mpg using 93 octane. No difference in mpg with eco mode coasting on, and comfort mode. The biggest mpg killervwas sitting in traffic. Temps on the trip were mid 80s to mid 90s.

@@mattil.3678 No by the time I needed to fill up I needed a break anyway. A lot of times I ended up refilling at a little less then half a tank, because I needed a break by then anyway. I owned an subaru STI, and this blows the gas mileage of that out of the water by far. Very happy with it after owning it 7 months now.

NEVER TOP OFF YOUR CAR AFTER IT STOPS. There is a carbon filter designed to capture gas vapors that can be damaged by overfilling your gas tank.

Exactly! Scott Kilmer went over this and some gas stations have it where it sends the gas somewhere else after it automatically stops to save the carbon filter from those that try to top off. But I wouldn’t count on it.

@@ShodakonFury actually that's a vapor return that prevents gas vapors from leaking during refueling. Topping off thr tank clogs the vapor return line and might even cause the next customer to spill gas while putting the nozzle into their car (happened to me a few weeks ago actually).

Never top off I use to do it religiously until I destroyed some evap thing on my 3 series. First thing the mechanic asked me was do you top off at the pump I said yes he said that’s why this happened. If I wasn’t under warranty it would’ve been 500.00 bucks

Find somewhere to get some pure gas and go on a long road trip to see how it fares. I saw 389 with 11 mile till empty on the 2018 before I wrecked it. Recently got 426 on the 2019, using Smart mode with 15 till empty. I attribute some of that to the hills of Pennsylvania where it would coast a lot of the times. I did completely fill it to test it and it was over 16 gallons. Not telling anyone to do this to their car but it is know on KIA hybrids that you could get an extra 5 gallons in the tank above what was specified in the manual. Wanted to see how they did with this car and it was about a gallon more. Too bad they weren't able to fit in an 18 gallon tank.

I ran 93 for a while and got terrible MPG, read some forums and switched to 87, I get 27 mpg now with a mix of city/highway and performance seems no different. If I know I am going for a fun drive I’ll run 93 for the weekend etc. Really this car continues to surprise me and is really the ultimate “daily”.

Please read your manual. You should never put anything lower than 91 octane in your vehicle. even the 2.0 turbo Stinger states this in the manual. You will experience engine knock over time if consistently using anything lower than 91 which could lead to a failed engine. They can also test this and void your warranty by sending a fuel sample in for testing.

Daniel Turner I looked in the manual and no where does it says “required” it only says recommended. Also when I service it I mention 85 and no one has ever said not to. If it does can you please provide the page number in the manual cause I have never seen it nor does my dealer seem to know. I think you might be mistaken friend.

B Brescia you’re correct. Premium is recommended octane 91, not required. Although minimum isn’t stated. It’s also recommended to use Top Tier gas. One thing though, do not take your dealerships words as gospel. Kia dealerships do not specialize in Stingers as they don’t seem them as often compared to other Kia models.

the total range may vary depending upon how many miles you put on a single full tank of gas... the most range i've gotten on a single full tank of gas was 354ishh and that's all highway miles and i got an AWD on Eco for the most part. I don't cheap out on gas.. 93 or bust.. but if you were going to put a lower octane, atleast make it top-tier like Shell, Sunoco, ExxonMobil etc.

Always use premium gas in the stinger.I have a 2020--one reason i bought a stinger is I could outright buy it and still have moolahh in the bank.KIA tech said if you use 87--the next 3 to 4 tanks should be premium.I had to rent an AUDI A6--also a 2020 after I got my stinger for a business trip.rental place left the receipt and had put 87 in it--the turbo was held back at least 2 seconds and it felt as if it had less then 300 hp.I was going to get an X5M--even a demo one was close to 70k--and even though I could still afford it--it would have been a waste of money.IStinger was 44k--GT AWD--7k in rebates--my trade i owned cut the car in half--I paid 19k--have a 10 year warranty--can do some light mods--have an exhaust already--and have 30k in the bank by not getting an X5M.I can afford premium gas--including 94 at a gas station near me that I use once a month in addition to 93 I use all the time.Have 5 years of my insurance already on autopay to an account with the money already there.When I got to nashville--I put 93 in the AUDI and about 30 minutes later it ran like a diffrent car--almost as fast as my stinger--but not quite.93 burns cleaner and slightly hotter and does not leave the carbon 87 will--in addition you will lose 20hp minimum and if it is hot outside probably 35 to 40.No sense in buying a car like this and shortcutting things.When I goto meets I see all these guys in late 20s and 30s--just a little younger then me--and see em put like 10 bucks of 87 octane in chargers and M5 bimmers and i cringe..If you can not afford a car in its entirety--get a lesser model.Yeah I wanted an X5M, but I sleep well at night and the stinger is almost as fast--plus my MPG in mix is 25--I have a video of my exhaust and my gas mileage is fanatastic for some reason--BTW unless it is a neighborhood--i am always going about 10 over the speed limit and getting 28 mpg on HWY and that is me going 80 to 90 mph.

The GT was never stated to avg 22 city 29 hwy, thats the base, premium and gt line. The GT, 1 and 2 is 17 city and 25 hwy, so you are exactly where you're supposed to be

Don't put more gas, when stop for the first time that's good, putting more after stoped the evap tank instead of receiving gases will get fuel and it will be damage.

In my car collection I run 89 ethanol free. The only car where gas makes a difference is in my 2007 Mini Copper JCW (Sidewalk) with reg I get like 27. With premium I get 33 mpg. I have cool air intake and full MSD ignition. Flywheel, Plugs, Wires, and Coil pack.

I know it’s not a new video, but I see a lot of comments talking about economy and power between regular and premium. I’d like to remind people that higher octanes combust at lower temperatures. In a forced induction engine, this helps a lot with pre-detonation. Also, the factory plug gaps are already prone to pre-detonation. If you don’t care about your engine, go for it 😆 If you’re running meth, the octane won’t matter as much.

Octane rating only helps with reliability and horsepower. Higher tier gas has more detergents. I'd rather pay extra for 91-93 and have the most protection from knock I can easily get than have 87 and a hole in a piston.

The TT V6 is rated at 19 city, 24 highway, and 21 mpg combined. With that being said I’ve definitely seen mine at 14 and once over 27 all highway.

It's never a good idea to "top off" the filling of fuel in a car. You should stop filling as soon as the first auto shut off of the pump happens, to leave room for gasoline vapours to evaporate through the evap system of the car. Otherwise you could potentially damage that system. I also bought my HiChroma Red Stinger GT Limited (GT2) this week and love it. Moreover, I got a great deal and paid a lot less for a slightly used 2018 model, so I have money left to fill it with premium only gasoline to get that extra performance... ;-)

I have the same white Stinger with the red interior - great choice 👍. We only have 91, 95 and 98 octane here in Australia and I treat mine with the 98. It costs $1.40 a litre but it’s worth it for the power and better economy.

mpgxsvcd - There is no recommended octane level stated. As Ron showed, it says what it’s comparable with, including an ethanol blend, but no specific octane level other than ‘higher is better’ (or words to that effect). As far as performance and efficiency are concerned, I always get better of both when I run on 98 instead of the standard 91

Omfg who cares about the octane when you had the option for ethanol-free there? Get the ethanol-free and your mileage would be around the 27-30 MPG. If ethanol-free isn't available, I always do highest octane in my Stinger GT1 V6 AWD. I tested 87 for a couple tanks and I got 2+ MPG less than with 93. And my manual definitely says recommended 95 octane. I wish I could find stuff that high.

@@AlainHubert Recommends doesn't equal "Requires". Read that part of the manual again (1-3 I believe): they say if you put lower octane, it might hurt fuel consumption... That's about it. So yeah, it's safe to drive on 87 even if it recommends 91. The engine ECM will adjust timing and knock sensors if you put lower octane in.

RED SPORT 400 Premium is required! They almost same performance engines, i can put regular in Red Sport 400 but premium is required so ur more lucky lol.

I saw u make 19 miles out of gallon, not bad but u have only 2 wheels drive so u get 2 miles extra because AWD will take at least 2 miles out of what they estimate, my RED SPORT is AWD and I can barely make 16 miles out of gallon on ECO mode no matter how gentle I drive so thirsty engine but u don't buy this car to save gas so its cool, just saying.

In aust regular lowest grade is 91/ 92. 10 percent ethanol is 93/94 octane. Premium 95 then ultra 98. Why the fuck America have such shit petrol(gasolene).

Pricing in the US is per gallon. There are approximately 3.78 liters per gallon, meaning you’re paying about $4 per gallon instead of the $3.20 that you see in this video. Maybe you should complain! lol

Wow for the US, you guys can buy really shitty fuel. In the UK the lowest you normally get is 95ron with our "premium" at 98 and sometimes 99 or 100ron. Sticking 87 in it you may as well pour sand in there.

@@peterrhoads1672 Ohh really In Holland they were posting by a road to a rafinery and all the brands were passing So they picked up the same stuff and put theire own additives to it by the gas station But it is so little that it is easy to do The only big difference is 95 and 98 and the percentage of biofuel The extra money they ask for premium is rediculous
