If you need to ask if 29 inch wheels are better than 27.5 ones then you wont notice the difference. I just dropped from a 29 HT to a 27.5 full sus and I have no idea whats what. The only difference i noticed is I now ride faster up hill and small bumpy things which is contrary to popular thinking on the subject of wheel sizes, but that prob due to the suspension making it easier. Aside from that, its great. Im not a racer, im just someone having fun and its awesome fun with my 27.5. Forget wheel size, buy what you think is good value.
@RustyMTB3 жыл бұрын
Rider skill and style is more important than bikes. That said 29ers are pretty cool, they have this feeling of speed and momentum that’s unmatched on 27.5. I am a fan of 27.5 because they have the ability to change direction so easily and I love it for bump jumping, quick cornering, and goofing around
@kiltymacbagpipe3 жыл бұрын
The difference between 27.5 and 29” isn’t really that massive. Compare a 26” to a 29er and I think the arguments become more valid. Bikes are systems and looking at one part in isolation is kind of silly but that’s what the internet is for.
@stevepadilla97293 жыл бұрын
I use to race years ago on only 26” wheels. We tried wider tire and it made the tires taller and that made the bumps feel softer, but seemed to have more tire flex in Tight turns. I went to a 29” now in my old age. I found the wheel flexing more in tight turns and even will rub on my frame. The 27.5 seem to be the better of the three in the back. Fast in turns and less flex like the 26”. I use a 27.5 rear and a 29 front on my Foes now and I like it. But over all at being 59 years old, loosing weight on my body will help me last longer on the trails and may help with less flex in the wheels.

For the brake vibration question. If your rotors are worn out, this can cause a gnarly vibration. Sometimes the center part of the braking surface (where the vent holes are) will wear thinner than the outer and inner, more continuous zones. A good sign that this is an issue is your pads will be worn convex.

The differences in the colour of kashima coatings are , as you say, down to the particular aluminium alloy used as well as the process itself. Slight variations in the time taken as well as temperature of the process will mean there are slight variations in the final colour which don't affect the performance of the coating. You find the same variations in anodising too due to the same differences.

It is still pretty interesting that even the same year, the same spec forks (me and my friend both have the 2021 fox 38 grip2) have differently coloured coat, and it's a big shade difference i'd say. Not worried about performance at all, it just stays a mystery for me.

Comparable to pumping up tires to 4bar instead of 2. The front wheel did get stuck often what forced the fork and my arms to work hard. Changed to mullet. It was half bad. The bike was designed for 27,5 and 29" btw. The lower bb on 27,5 or the slackness on the mullet was something i did not feel at all but the stronger brakes on 27,5 were impressive. What I did to fix it was opened up those two side bolts to turn my bars (but leave them as is) and then with that, you’ll be able to tighten that middle bolt on the stem cap/top cap. For this parts fox probably has a standard of shade/tone that parts will be acceptable for production use. Like you also mentioned the type of material or preparation of said material that requires anodising will also affect the colour of the final coating not by much but sometimes enough to be detected by sight of a consumer ! :) hope it helps I’ve worked for 2 years on an electroplating shop doing several different metal coatings including anodising (which is what kashima is)

The simple answer : because it’s a fuck on, 100 specific tools are needed, you need nitrogen….. quite a lot of reasons.
@jeffv.akaonsjeffke98653 жыл бұрын
Because you only need to keep the shaft clean. When they start leaking oil it's time for a new seal head unit, which you can' t do at home as you don" t have the nitrogen, or the pump to get it filed up correctly with oil without air in it. When it leaks or feels to soft, ship it out to a suspension guru.
@adammccarthy21573 жыл бұрын
Fox recommends that the minimum suspension fork and shock service is 125 hours of use, yearly, or whichever comes first. That is certainly on the longer side of things. Similar to changing the oil in your car, the more frequently you service your suspension, the better the fork will perform for longer.

Imo brakes shudder in MTB is natural and comes mainly from wide spread tread blocks on your tires. Other minor causes might be large holes in disc rotors. Both cause pulsation in braking force transferred from the system to the ground. I fully stopped worrying about it. Also if you notice it less on soft woodland soil and more on tarmac, that's a no brainer to me. If you have a friend with a road bike, I bet he'll tell you he never felt pulsation from his disc brakes, due to slicks.

If you are able to, visit a lcoal bike shop and try both a medium and large. You may find that you can't get the seat as low as you would like for descending on a large due to many mountain bikes not having straight seat tubes, or if it includes a dropper post, it may be too long. Swapping stems to increase reach does work, however, I wouldn't increase stem length by more than 10mm personally as a long stem and wide bars makes for slower and less responsive steering, but if you increase stem length and shorten the bars, the handling won't feel as stable at higher speeds. This does depend on what type of bike you are getting. Most trail/enduro bikes have short stems and wide bars, and you probably wouldn't want to increase stem length too much, but if you are looking to get an XC bike, you can play around with stem length alot more as theses are made for climbing and slower speed descending.

#askGMBNTech: Is there a down side, when I switch from a 100mm fork with 20% sag to a 120mm fork with 30% sag? The fork length in sag is then 4mm longer, so there should not be any problem with geometry. Am I missing something?

Hi, I noticed my newly installed tires has cracks and I didn't run it on the trails yet. Does mtb tires have an expiration date? Like for example when they have been around the shop for a few months or years. Thanks. #askGMBNTech

Ozone and sunlight negatively affects tires, as well as extreme temperatures. You might have bought really old tires that weren't stored properly.

Never ever get the smaller frame because somebody says it‘s more agile. I did that wrong when I was young and ended up with a 430mm seatpost and a 135mm stem. The bike felt absolutely terrible but I didn‘t notice util I got a better fitting bike

#askGMBNTech Hi Doddy! although you said wheels larger than 29" would be stupid and not needed, can you see them being manufactured in the future? Even though they would be pointless in your opinion, do you think it could happen?

#askgmbmtech i recently bought a derailleur hanger for my norco fluid fs 3. its worth noting the thru axle screws in to the hanger not the frame and when i installed the new hanger, it fit into the frame fine. but when i went to put the thru axle in it didn't screw into the hanger because the threads were different! the thread on the thru axle are a lot finer. i didn't know about this could you educate me on different thread types?

While we’re on the subject, What is the best way to unclog a shrader valve?

Remove the valve core and replace it from an old tube if you have one other wise just pick at it same for presta

Presta system clogs up but easy to clean, if your shrader clogs would be hard to clean... probably need a new valve

#askgmbntech Is there any way to see any telemetry from braking in trail, braking points, how hard you pull the brake ex. It would be awesome to see how pro riders use their brakes while riding. It would also be very cool to see like a POV riding videos whit braking usage in the low corner of the video something like they have in formula 1 where u can see how much they use brakes or gas when they drive. Would be very nice thing to see and learn from.

Here’s a thought… ever since I bought a gearbox bike with a belt drive, almost all the tech advice and recommended maintenance issues just went away. Derailleurs, chains and chainwear, cassettes, hyperglide vs XD, chainrings, clutches, jockey wheels, etc. Just not a problem anymore😊

#askGMBNTech. Hi Doddy. I am looking to get a new set of wheels for my bike. The wheels I'm looking at have 30mm and 35mm internal rim widths. The 30mm can fit 2.4-2.8 inch tyres and the 35 can fit 2.5-3.0 inch tyres. My bike has 29x2.6inch tyres. Would it be better to use the same size rims or use the 35mm on the front and the 30mm on the rear?

#AskGMBNTech I am looking at getting a bike that can tackle everything from the bike park to shared trail use centres and have narrowed it down to a couple of bikes, the Giant Reign 29 2, the Canyon Spectral 6 or 5 and the Canyon Torque 5. Which would be the most capable to handle Big White Bike Park, shuttle centres and peddle up locations? Basically I am looking for an all around do everything bike that is $3000-$4000 CDN, any suggestions or tips on the three bikes?

Hey Daddy love the show, I've a question, can I use a 500x2.65 Coil on a 222x70mm shock. The original was a 450x2.75 but it is too soft. If yes, does it change the geo on my V10? Can't find a 500 or a 525 in 2.75 at the moment because it out of stock everywhere. best regards #askgambntech

#ASKGMBNTECH Hi Doddy, big fan! I’m not that experienced with using different types of greases with MTBs. Was wondering whether Teflon grease can be used as a general grease for bikes. I know it isn’t good on carbon components but is it alright to use on cranks and dropper seat posts? Is it alright to use it inside both front and rear suspensions? Couldn’t find these answers anywhere. Really appreciate your help!

#askgmbntech I've got a 29er with a rear freewheel that I want to upgrade to cassette, but I wanna keep the rim since it's like 26mm inner width. Can I just re-lace the wheel to a cassette hub with the same flange diameter?

#askgmbntech my chain rests on the chain stay protector when the smallest sprocket in the cassette is selected. Is there a way to increase the tension on it between the cassette and the chainring? I thought about removing a link but can’t see how that would make a difference between the cassette and chainring.
@danp25093 жыл бұрын
have a look at the clutch on your derailieur, that could be loose or damaged, also have a look at chain wear, although I don't think chain wear woud cause a chain to rest on the chainstay. Is it still the orignal chain on the bike? If not who fitted the new chain?

Hi Doddy, I changed my new bike to a tubeless set up 3 months back (new tyres) , it seems like the sealant (slime STR) had dried off and the rear wheel looses a lot of air. Im planning to change the sealant brand of my tubeless setup. Will changing the sealant brand cause any issues if I top up the new sealant (muc-off)? Or should I strip the tubeless tape, remove the old sealant from my tube and wheels and then apply the new sealant? Thank you. #askgnbnTech

probably wont cause an issue, I'd take the tire of and clean the tire and rim, but I wouldn't remove the rim tape unless it's damaged

Kind of a specific question I have a budget fork on my mtb that won't compress when i put weight on it directly from above(or in a riding position) but it does compress when I push the front wheel againt a wall. Any idea what the problem could be and how i might fix it? Btw it was working just fine for more than a year now

I bought new Continental Ruban tires both 2,3 inch but i discovered that my back tire is rubbing against the frame. Is it possible to just go for a 2,3 inch in front and a 2,1 inch at the back or will this make some problems. (And i can not send my tires back because i lost the receipt :( ) #askgmbntech
