Sometimes the traffic can be upsetting but for the most part for me, this is the best job ever! If you dont like driving or being away from home you may not want to do this kind of work. @@freshguy54 At first Barrett Direct Line was with them for a couple months then was picked up by a friend who owned his own company and now I work for myself. If you want to make real money learn the business first and then do it al yourself.

You only need an authority when you become owner operator. Best advice I can give is check with DOT MVR talk to company owners, I have been retired for a year now so the laws may have changed.

I'm confused about not getting a Dot and MC number for my Sprinter Cargo van is under 10,000 lbs. But Brokers and shippers are demanding it to deliver OTR freight. But according to FMSCA, you are not required to register for a DOT number / USDOT number, also referred to as a PennDOT number where the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of your truck or van is less than 18,000-lbs, or Gross Combined Weight Ratings (GCWR) of your truck and trailer or van and trailer is less than 18,000-lbs.

@@felixgarcia9063 I even watched a video of 2 sheriff's on KZbin going over a traffic stop for a Ford f350 carrying cargo and the first thing they check is the driver side door sticker that says how much GVWR the truck is rated at. And they specifically say if it's under 10,001 they don't care about it. That particular truck happenes to be 13,001 so they continued in their safety inspection. But that's their first step is verifying if it's under or over 10k.

A regular account is good to start. It's a good idea to open one at some point. Ideally you want to separate the business from your personal.

Is the freight is insured by the Courier I would be working for? what he’s not telling you is that you need 100,000 cargo and 1million liability to run u see some authority .. so you might as well get your mc .. because that amount of insurance is very expensive .this industry makes no sense don’t run out and buy a van .. it’s more than what you think

10,000 pounds and under, and not crossing state lines with freight.... I think you only need insurance, so they will let you sign to use a load board. But the load board may or may not allow you to use the service without numbers. Also, the payment services which get you your money from brokers, may require it. Brokers may require it or not..... Not so clear. But If you wanna cross state lines with freight you gotta make sure youre federally registered.

FMCSA 8008325660 Call this number for any questions regarding this. They way very helpful when we went through the process of getting our mc & dot number. There is also services that will do this for a fee. Please be sure that this is the route you want to take. Do you have cargo van experience? Do you own a van? Do you plan to do otr or local/regional?
