Decent take by EO - I am also far more comfortable throwing 9 speeds than probably any other speed of disc, however I do feel that slower fairways are needed for wooded courses for both distance and fade control. Thanks for making this - do wish the cameraman was not dancing the entire time tho :)

Among my fairway drivers, I don’t even distinguish between speed anymore, I mainly sort them after my perceived stability. I just like to have a nice range of stabilities for throwing putters, midranges, fairway drivers and distance drivers. Distance Drivers are my smallest group, since Im self aware enough to recognise that throwing anything beyond a 10 speed is only hurting me. Sacrificing control for a couple of extra feet just isn’t worth it most of the time.

I use Leopard, which is 6-speed for backhand. It's dead straight, like a longer Roc. But it does not feel good, or work as forehand disc, so I use Firebird, which is 9-speed and can handle the torque really well, as expected. Basically my speed-steps are: Approach discs(Rat, zone) - Midranges(Rocs) - 6-speed fairway(Leopard) - 11-13 speed drivers.(Wraith, D3) This way I have clear difference in distance between steps.

The Centurion is a really good 7-speed disc, as well. I'm sure for a pro it's useful as a backhand or forehand roller disc, or maybe a "get out of jail free" disc in some situations.

Target distance, hand feel and being reliable in wind etc. will make the difference. I bag discs for shorter (speed 6-7) and longer (9) fairways. Speed 6-7 are more on understable side and speed 9 set is more on overstable side. Would put PD/Anax in the bag for certain situations but it's full already. And I would consider that a fairway driver too, so speeds 6-10 can be fairway, while speed 6 can also be mid (looking at you Kaxe).

i usually carry 4-6x7 Speeds, 2x 8's and 3x 9's. each speed step gives me about 25-35ft more distance, especially on unknown courses i m looking for maximum versatility. On my homecourse however 7speeds are enough for me cause no hole is farther than 330ft. I adapt my bag to the courses i play.

Thought my beat star sidewinder got more distance than my new dx.leopard. I was wrong. They are very similar in distance and stability. Think I'm going to go on a leopard rotation and add an exodus to cover all my drivers.

Tips on getting the lateral movement?
@Infinitediscs4 ай бұрын
I think disc selection is a major part of lateral movement but also angle control is key. Matching the disc and angle plus practice.
@Flakzor1234 ай бұрын
@@InfinitediscsI agree. The main stat I would look for if I want lateral movement is high glide. Comparing 2 9-speeds I throw a decodye culverin for headwind shots on semi-tight fairways but if I instead use a getaway with matching stability it goes another 20-30' with twice the lateral movement since the getaway "carries" its glide well as it fades where the culverin instead "drags its ass" and sits down when it fades.

I bag 7, 8, and 9 speed fairway drivers. Not all 9 speeds go farther. It depends on the stability. A real overstable 9 speed moat likely won't go farther than neutral 7, 8, and 9 speeds.

7 speeds have been money for me over the last couple years.
@coreycalamity13954 ай бұрын
I throw hyzer flip on every shot so 90% of the time my dynasty is going laser beam straight very little movement until the fade so it really depends on your angle of release a lot more than just the speed. its like saying throwing an innova eagle is better than throwing a dynasty on a tight gap. this is false because an eagle has more play left to right as a 7 speed.

To most amateurs 9 speed is the fastest disc they even need.
@davidfluth40584 ай бұрын
Blatantly incorrect in my opinion. I was missing out on 50’ of distance because I believed this lie. When my friend introduced me to the MVP Wave it changed my game. I went from throwing 330’ to 360’ in a day. Eventually with more practice that lead to 380’ throws. These are all AMATEUR DISTANCES. Everyone that throws distance drivers backhand will also throw them on forehand EVEN IF THEIR FOREHAND IS WEAK. Because they know the benefits of high speed discs.

It's not a hard decision if you think of your seven as the flight of a mid that goes just a tad farther. 9 is just as far flying as 11 speeds. Not even close in my mind.
