Honestly, learning how to correctly use a flash has cured a lot of my ‘sensor size’ dilemmas. Using a flash correctly can isolate a subject or make them stand out in far more interesting ways than bokeh can. Also means low ISO in most lighting situations which negates needing a big sensor for low light. Obviously I don’t always want to use a flash, but it really can negate some of the situations you would otherwise think you ‘need’ full frame for.

I settled on Nikon ZF and OM5, I think I finally found a good way to go big and small and not sacrifice any quality. Ibis on both are fantastic!

I really love the 26mp cameras. I shoot the XH2s for work and the XE4 for family/walk around kind of stuff. My clients never ask what I’m shooting. They just care about the images and how fast I get it to them

Great job with the pictures. I think how they turned out is more of a testament to how well you used the flash rather than the camera and lens. Must have been a challenge in those bright conditions with no assistant. There's something nice about using a more portable setup. The big stuff might work well if it's a more planned shoot, but for family documenting, where things are unplanned, portable is what I'm prioritizing.

I find that shooting with a fast 35mm equivalent accompanied by the smallest telephone one can find for the system (with AF) is better than shooting a standard zoom.

X-T30ii is a great camera and certainly capable. One downside in using it for ‘paid/pro’ work is the single SD card slot.

Maybe try a reflector instead of flash?

Great stuff Eric! I think the ZF is also a good camera to have for someone like you. Strip it down and put your m mount lenses on there when you want to.

A useful video that raises a challenge many of us have with camera gear. When I travel I always end up taking the EM5iii and Olympus 12-45 f4 pro because its small leight weight and weather sealed. The resulting images are still very good, as is the case with most cameras in the prosumer group. Even with smaller FF cameras the challenge is still the size and weight of pro grade fast aperture lenses. I just have to leave the f2.8 pro zooms and f1.4 primes behind. Choices, choices, choices.......

Man, every time in the past when you've said you do "senior" portraits I thought you meant portraits of older people. I've thought to myself that's an interesting niche to choose. I didn't realise you meant high school teenagers, which is quite different 🤣 Calling high school kids seniors isn't really a thing in Australia. Anyway, made me giggle to myself 🙂

Hi Eric. Thanks for this video. Did you try/think to use an ND filter with the 1.4 lens? Concerning, recycling time, I bought 2 second hand Godox V860II, and I am very happy with. Still learning as you. Do continue with such video. Best.

I love the size of my Fuji cameras. (I have 3 and need to sell one of them) I’m tempted by the next greatest full frame camera but I plan on always having at least one Fuji. I held my uncle’s Z8 and it’s awesome but so much bigger. Would be awesome for wildlife though.

How do you like the ZF? I’ve been a Canon shooter for a long time, and have been using Fuji for fun. But, that full frame retro looking ZF has sparked my interest, for sure.
