I’m old enough to remember that when you went to Hudson’s Downtown store, you dressed up nicely, for the incredible pleasure of being there!

My uncle worked at Hudsons his whole career. In the 60s as a little little girl I went with my mom downtown to see my uncle at work and told him I wanted to work there. Sure enough in the summer of 1981 right after my high school graduation, I went to work for Hudson’s and I continued to work there throughout my college years and beyond… I loved working there. I was so proud of being a part of this great retail giant. To this day, no retailer comes close to their level of customer service. Except maybe Nordstrom. And Von Maur. God bless J.L. Hudson!!

Loved Hudson's. My mom and I would get on the street care on Jefferson and ride to Woodward and go to the Hudson's store in the 50's. And it was always a special place at Christmas time for sure.

Great Video! My mom worked at J.L. Hudson's in the late 1940's. We parked and took a cab and went as a family during the Christmas Holiday to see the Winter WonderLand animated display and the toy floor. Many people to see the display and store. They had every train set and car slot car slot assembled on the walls. Also, the elevators had an operator for each elevator too. Many great memories - thanks for sharing.

My favorite memories: The Woodward Shop. The Elevator Operators, the windows at Christmas time and SANTA BEARS!! I still called it Hudson's.

1952-58. I recall the Christmas toy shop. Every toy a child would want. We stood watching the Christmas parade waiting for Santa and Christmas Carol. We would travel on the electric cars downtown. It was always wonderful with my mother by my side.

I lived in Dearborn and Grosse Ile (downriver) from 1957-1972. Hudson’s was always a special place to visit, especially at Christmas, when the toy department was transformed into a Winter Wonderland. Such wonderful memories!

I worked for the Franklin Park Mall Toledo Hudson's back in the late 80's early 90's. It was the last building shown at the end. I miss the Christmas Bears, the Polo department with my discount, the frozen yogurt shop they had inside the store, the restaurant (have fond memories of eating there with my mother & younger brother back in the 70's), they had little yellow bags with circus elephants & clowns on it for the kid's meal, I miss my fellow employees the most! We had so much fun working there!

It was a treat to go to Hudson's and see Santa Claus at Christmas. The store was huge and amazing! Hudson's meant quality and value. It is missed.

I was born and raised in Detroit. I remember so much about the old Hudson's store, from the older ladies in uniform who operated the elevators with steel and glass hinged doors, the multiple bargain basements, the candy counter and their very own Santa Claus and one of the biggest Christmas light displays covering the outside walls of the building and that the store was connected to another department store ( Crowley's) by way of a four or five story enclosed bridge; you could use that bridge to go from one store to the other without having to go outside.

Thanks for sharing those memories. I also did Crowley's as well....kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZnvEZZ2irq6gd80

I, used to work for Hudson's Eastland Mall Store in the Men's Sports Wear Department. I, worked from 1975 until 1980. I, remember when Marshall Field's merged with Hudson's. The, Eastland Mall is being demolished, and will be renamed Eastland Commerce Center. Class A Warehouse and Distribution Center. This, redevelopment will replace the Eastland Mall. Would, you do a video about Crowley's, Milner and Company. I, remember Crowley's when I worked at Hudson's Eastland Mall. And, Hudson's became Marshall Field's, and now Macy's.

I remember that after DAYTON HUDSON MARSHALL FIELDS TARGET merger(s), you could find the same items at TARGET that you could at MARSHALL FIELDS. Talk about the worst marketing plan EVAR! Those corporate know-it-alls really didn't think about that fiasco!

Hudsons' was UNMATCHED in its square footage (2 million!), variety of items sold, services, knowledgeable, classy and expert salespeople, STUNNING displays, decorations and dedication! The only other store that might've come close was Macy's. It was closed roughly 30+ years ago and is STILL SORELY MISSED by all of us old enough to remember it. Shopping today is a genuinely pathetic experience in every way listed above compared to Hudsons heyday. It was a MAGNIFICENT STORE AND CHAIN. ❤❤❤❤❤❤
