Northgate Station (formerly Northgate Mall) is an enclosed shopping mall in Seattle, Washington, United States. It is located in the Northgate neighborhood on Interstate 5, adjacent to Northgate Way and Northgate station, a light rail station. The mall is anchored by Barnes & Noble, Bed Bath & Beyond, and Nordstrom Rack.
Northgate opened in 1950. It was the first shopping mall to be built in the post-war United States. The mall was developed by Allied Stores and was initially an open-air facility until being renovated in the 1970s. Now under Simon Property Group ownership, it is currently undergoing redevelopment into a mixed-use complex that includes operational and practice facilities for the Seattle Kraken National Hockey League team.

I loved going to the northgate mall in the mid 90s when I was in high school. Especially Northgate Cinema, I loved the single screen format and that it reminded me of a classic movie house,. Way preferable to multiplexes in my mind

Got many stitches in the hospital, was in the long line around the mall to see Raiders Of The Lost Ark, Caddyshack & Aliens and ate at the Woolworth’s diner! Hated the renovation cuz I loved the benches with the planters!

I'll never forget Northgate. I was hiding under a table in Nordstrom when the Nisqually earthquake hit in 2001. The ceiling collapsed, the floor turned to jelly and everyone panicked and fled the building. By then there was a giant crack down the side of the Nordstrom building.

Lost my mom for about 20 minutes in the Bon Marche in the early 60's. Had my tonsils taken out at the hospital about the same time, got my first pair of glasses a couple of years later in some store there on the north side by the totem pole. Went to Red Robin and a movie all the time in high school mid 70's.

When I was a kid in the late 90's & early 2000's... Wizards of The Coast had 4 PC's in the back where I played the original Counter-Strike for the first time. Kids would gather in and around the store playing Pokemon and Magic as well. Around that same time I remember to walk up the exterior stairs to the food court you had to pass by all of the wannabe thugs that would literally have their knives out running smaller kid's pockets. Later on Wizards of The Coast was replaced by "Threadz" and that section of the mall died. I remember going to the one of the first "Black Friday" sales where stores would open at 6:00AM and hand out free gifts to the first 200 customers. As the years went on and the Simon Group bought out the mall the charm and innovation died completely leaving us where we are today.

I like the 60s style architecture that they used to use for malls so much better than the later stuff.

I worked at a small hospital across the street from Northgate for about three years before working at the hospital in Northgate mall. Before the hospital was going to close, the company I worked for transferred me to California.

I remember going to Northgate in the early 70's before it was roofed over. On cold, rainy days, shopping there was miserable, lol. After it got roofed over, it took a while for me to get used to that. But I really loved the place. I lived fairly close by back in the 90's, and walked to the Mall often. See's Candy store (which I don't think is seen in this video) was a favorite stop. I hate to see it all gone now, but that's progress, I guess. Thanks for the memories.

Yes, my mom took me to the mall in 1965 with no roof. I spent many days shopping and hanging out there until 1990 when I moved to Vancouver WA. All the anchor stores were there and it was a crowded mall, especially at the holidays. Grandmother passed away at the hospital there. A friend from highschool was shot and killed at the mall dropping off a store deposit at the bank. The change to Seattle since I left has been drastic and not for the best. I still remember the old Seattle.

I didn't know that malls went all the way back to 1948!!! That's amazing. And now I know where all those Gates came from. From Northgate Center. Without it we never would have had all those Southgates and Westgates and Eastgates. Ha ha

Eric!!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤ You're the absolute best!!!! At 4:42 Clark's coffee shop restaurant used to be a restaurant called fresh choice and later called Zoopa's when I was younger. It was my first job back in 1999, age 16! Also you forgot to mention the arcade that use to be at the front of the mall, where the Azteca restaurant is today. (At 8:41) on the left side, man did I spend some quarter's in that place. Also, the old hospital was done up for Halloween back in 1996, a haunted house theme, and that was the only time I ever got to go inside. I was scared so badly that I've never been to another haunted house theme, since. Oh the good ol' day's!!!! Great video Eric, thanks!❤
