Boulevard Mall is a shopping center located north of the city of Buffalo at the western edge of the Town of Amherst in Erie County, New York, United States. The name derives from its location on Niagara Falls Boulevard (U.S. Route 62), which divides Amherst from the Town of Tonawanda. Boulevard Mall features a gross leasable area of 904,000 square feet (84,000 m²).[1][2] The mall currently maintains the traditional chains Macy's, JCPenney, Dick's Sporting Goods, and Gabe's.
The mall is currently being transformed into a state of the art property called Boulevard Place. The 60 year old shopping concourse will become refreshed and feature the addition of an urban boulevard concept with office and residential elements.[3]
Boulevard Mall opened in 1962 as the first indoor shopping center in the Buffalo area. Since its opening, a large commercial zone has grown up around it. Because of its proximity to the Canadian border, Boulevard Mall is a frequent destination for Canadian shoppers. JCPenney added a large store in 1970. A small southern extension was added in 1978, a food court was added in 1994, The mall underwent a major renovation in 1997.

For those who may be unaware, "Sattler's 998" refers to the address of Sattler's anchor store which was located in the Broadway-Fillmore shopping district of Buffalo at 998 Broadway. They used the "998" liberally in all their advertising and most people just referred to Sattler's as "998".

I'm so glad you did this one cuz this was the best mall in Buffalo. It wasn't the biggest or anything, it was just the best. I didn't live in Buffalo yet when the mall still had all those original anchor stores, so it was interesting hearing what they were. And I never knew it used to have a bowling alley and an Acme Market at one time. It's too bad they got rid of the food court in order to build the Dick's Sporting Goods cuz that was the best food court. It had great book stores and record stores too, and some good restaurants like York Steak House and TGI Fridays. I wonder why so many malls in the '90s decided that they needed a merry-go-round. To attract children? who don't have any money to spend at the stores? Seems like it was a poor business decision. lol

When I was a kid, Sattler's had a grocery store in it and my parents would pick up their groceries at the back of the store outside after they were done shopping at the mall. A conveyer belt brought the groceries out to the car and an employee would load them into the truck. I remember the Acme Market because it wasn't very clean and had poor selection and went out of business there. We left WNY in 1996 so we didn't see it after that.

Going there as a kid... the shoe store with the fire engine in it... Sattlers' coin collection department... and my first pair of glasses at Harold Goldstein's optometrist store, fitted to me by Jerry. I still remember leaving the store with my new glasses at 11 years old and marveling at the newly crisp looking floor, lights and storefronts!

I worked here when I was in college (2018-2020, I had to leave because of the pandemic/another job) in what used to be the Things Remembered and even then when I was working there and it was dying I would think about how my grandma would take me out shopping when I was a kid and how cool it used to be. Me and my coworkers at the time fully believed that it was Dick's taking out the food court that ruined the place. I can still remember what the stores used to be, the play place, the Taco Bell, the carosel, the popcorn machine, etc. that got ripped out. It breaks my heart a little that a place I have so many good memories of has turned into a shell of what it was. Thank you for making this video. #Buffalove

I live 5 minutes from this mall. In it's heyday, it was bustling and booming. Now, its just a shell of what it was.... Removing the food court for a Dick's Sporting goods cemented its demise.

I'm old and remember my mom taking me when I was about 7 or 8 into Sattler's and coming out of the glass doors into the mall! The mall was quite new, then. Yes, they had glass doors you had to walk through to get to the mall. Later in the mid 1970's I use to come with my friends and sometimes "hang out"! I remember Acme and the bowling alley called Suburban Lanes. There was no food court. When I went there, there was no Kresge's that I remember. Maybe because a large Kmart was build down the road on Niagara Falls Blvd. It really was a great mall back in the day. Warm memories and happy I got to live around that time. Thank you for doing this video. A lot of nostalgia there for me.

I'd love to see a picture or a video of the original fountain, It was so loud in there. They used to call it the sound of Niagara falls..... The Christmas displays were absolutely unbelievable, So many holidays and so many average Friday nights and Saturday nights hanging out there with my friends. We'd skateboard up, hang out all night munching at the food court. Met a lot of girls there too. Sad to see it go but everything has to change, So is the way we do business and the way we shop.

I grew up going to this mall. And its bleeding slowly. I remember so many stores that are now gone now from there. Not many left from when i was kid there. Only pennies and tgifs. I remember going to KB toy store plus the pet shop and watching the puppies in the window. Going to original cookie and the orange Julius for a snack. Going to ruby's for dinner or york steak house for the buffet. Or hanging out at McDonalds before the food court was there. So many memories. Just sad to see it in the state its in.

I can remember riding my bike to this mall. Perusing kaybee toys and spending an afternoon in Aladdin's castle spending every quarter I had. I miss those days, and I really don't enjoy the galleria. Sadly this mall and eastern hills are now closed. I fear the McKinley isn't too far off leaving only the galleria.
