Love phil collins, love this song so emotional.Anyone listening in 2023?

I'm a grown man, but every time I hear this song it brings tears to my eyes. I'd like to share with you why. When I was younger I fell deeply in love with a girl, and she me. We both loved this song. Before I had met her I had become addicted to prescription painkillers from a sports injury I suffered, but that addiction ultimately took me to heroin. I was so in love with this girl and couldn't bear the thought of losing her if she found out. Hiding an addiction is nearly impossible and so is trying to find help for that addiction. She did find out and I'll never be able to forgive myself for the pain I know I caused her. Rather than saying good-bye to me, she stuck with me. Because of some serious crimes I had committed during the addiction I was arrested. I had never been in trouble before, so the day of my sentencing, she came with me and I was terrified of going to prison. I stood before the judge as he was about to pass sentence and looked over at her and she smiled. My knees buckled as the judge sentenced me to twenty years in a maximum security prison. I can't explain what I felt at that moment. I knew I had lost her for good and that thought bothered me more than getting the twenty years. After being in prison for about a month my name was called for a visit and it was her!! She said that she would be there when I got out. She came to visit every two weeks like clock work. Years went by and my name came up for parole after serving 19 years, 8 months. I was granted paroled and extremely excited and couldn't wait to tell her the news. I called, but there was no answer. After repeated calls, and no one answering I had called her Mom it was then that my world fell apart. In the two weeks since her last visit she was hospitalized after her Mom found her unconscious on the floor not breathing. During the time I was making all the calls to share with her the news that I was getting out, she had passed away. She had been sick for a long time, but she never told me, she didn't want to make my time any harder. In the few days before she passed away she had given her Mom a note for me, all it said inside was "Do you remember?". Thanks for letting me share.

My favorite Phil Collins song. The first time I heard it, it reminded me of my father. I was five years old when I last saw him. He put me on plane to the US to live with my mother. He wrote letters, but I never understood why he wouldn't come see us when he said he would. Maybe I had done something for him to send me away. As a child, I thought maybe I was to blame for him not coming back to us. After a while, I learned to stop expecting anything of him, but I still loved him. Nothing that he did could have changed the love. He died on my 19th birthday and I played this song. The tears would not stop as I listened to the lyrics..."there was always something more important to do, more important to say...and now it's too late." 16 years later, the tears still roll.

+Sandra Akins sorry to hear of your story with your father. Children are too small to know what problems their parents had, and always think it is their own fault. It is not. It was something else, you may never find out. Read about missing fathers on a psychology website to know it wasn't because of you

PHIL is a great guy. 10 April 1985 I stopped his concert at The Sydney Entertainment Centre. I was dozing drinking champagne in my reserved seat, Phil performed DRONED, it woke me up. When the clapping stopped, in that gap from way back in the Arena, I told Phil he was brilliant. I shut the place down, loud voice. Phil stopped, said over the microphone "You are loud aren't you", "Is there anything I can play for you" I spoke loudly and asked Phil if he would play "Against All Odds". He got up from the drums, crossed to the piano, hit the first note & Sydney went wild. Phil is the same in person, a real sweetheart. Love you man. Superb talent.

I have listened to this song over n over again today and cried, I even made a tik tok with this song along with photos of my ex husband that passed away on June 10th 2013, exactly 18 years to the day we got together. This song has always been beautiful but now it takes on a more beautiful meaning ❣️

Strong hugs, strength and a spirit of perseverance unto dear Sabrina ... Looking in the mirror will reveal to you that through you, your beautiful-but-strong-but-intelligent mother still liveth on. Embrace her voice and words that will from time to time audibly manifest in thy mind.

Simply an excellent song....reminding us all (who know it and perhaps lived it) of a different time. We could all retrospectively look at this as "ahh the days gone by" (including myself), but where does that get us? Longing for a better time that really wasn't 'better', when this was written or recorded. Right??! When this was released, my mother had just past from cancer. I was 22 years old. Do I really think this was a simpler time?....no....yet something in me says "yes"...but in retrospect....I had yet to climb so many mountains. Friends, take this for what it is worth...life is short, lovely and beautiful. Remember these songs and times in the proper perspective...life living forward is always hard. Never drive looking in the rear view mirror. As the grass is always greener on the other side....so is the past.

It was October 2013. I was at the starting line of a national marathon and I was listening to music on my headphones. I was in love with a girl for the first time. When the marathon started, I selected this song and ran at its pace until the end of it. I think I replayed about 40 times. In the middle of the race i had tears in my eyes. I won the race, I became the national marathon champion. I was very happy that I finished the race and I can't wait to call her and tell her that I had become a champion and that I dedicated this title to her. It was the happiest moment of my life. After 2 months I found out that she had another relationship and we broke up forever. If I met her now, after 8 years, I would ask her: do you remember?

I remembered this heart aching and wonderful song from Phil Collins in the 90. At that time it made so much sense as it was especially written for me which comforted my heart every time I would listen to it. At the same time it made me cry a lot because the lyrics seemed be so real which touched my heart. Only when one loses a beloved one than one beginn to recall the pass which pains extremely. The time may have faded away off many memories but still the song remains. Phil Collins knew how to capture one heart.
