At 8 years old, I couldn’t listen to this song when it came out. I realize now the emotion in the song and video overwhelmed me. This morning I woke up with it on my mind. My best friend of 20 years is flying across the country for an interview, and I know they are going to love her and hire her. We went on a weekend trip and were reminiscing about all the fun we have had (we actually saw Phil Collins together) and I can’t help but think this may be the start of a new season in her life. I want that for her. I know it may be best for her, and so I’m going to get really acquainted with Idaho…What happened at the end of this video will not happen to us, we are sisters forever.

Possibly but if you didn’t do what the music video is showing you then the regret is really huge because the love start like this, when you are a young girl meeting some boy and then a kiss, a flower, walking and sitting in the park, sending each other notes. Studying together.Your parents spying on you, catching every conversation or silly laughing from you while you were speaking by phone 📞 . And that makes me so sad because happened many years ago ….45-50-35 years ago?, when everything was so beautiful and NORMAL.When boys and girls enjoyed the life together. Is really sad to think about it.

**Lyrics**🤩 We never talked about it But I hear the blame was mine I'd call you up to say I'm sorry But I wouldn't want to waste your time 'Cause I love you, but I can't take anymore There's a look I can't describe in your eyes If we could try like we tried before Would you keep on telling me those lies? (Telling me lies) Do you remember? (Do you remember) Ooh, do you remember (Do you remember) There seemed no way to make up 'Cause it seemed your mind was set And the way you looked it told me It's a look I know I'll never forget You could've come over to my side You could've let me know You could've tried to see the distance between us But it seemed to far for you to go (So far to go) Do you remember? (Do you remember) Ooh, do you remember (Do you remember) Through all of my life In spite of all the pain You know that people are funny sometimes 'Cause they just can't wait to get hurt again Tell me do you remember? (Do you remember) There are things we won't recall And feelings we'll never find It's taken so long to see it 'Cause we never seemed to have the time There was always something more important to do More important to say But I Love You wasn't one of those things And now it's too late (Now it's too late) Do you remember? (Now it's over) (Do you remember, ooh, it's over) Ooh, do you remember (Do you remember, now it's over) (Do you remember, ooh, it's over) Ooh yeah, tell me do you remember Do you remember Tell me now, tell me now Tell me now, tell me now Do you remember

This song is very easy to be overlooked on the great “But Seriously” CD. The line “There was always something more important to do, more important to say”. “But I love you wasn’t one of those things, and now it’s too late”. Reminds me of my late Mom. We had a good relationship but I moved several hours away the last 20 years that she was alive. I tried to call and visit as much as I could, but now feel that I could have said I love you more. She passed away 5 years ago and hearing that line tore me apart. I love you Mom always and forever.

Lyrics : We never talked about it But I hear the blame was mine And I'd call you up to say I'm sorry But I wouldn't wanna waste your time 'Cause I love you, but I can't take any more There's a look I can't describe in your eyes If we could try, like we tried before Would you keep on tellin' me those lies? (Tellin' me lies) Do you remember? (Do you remember?) Ooh, do you remember? (Do you remember?) There seemed no way to make up 'Cause it seemed your mind was set Ooh, and the way you looked, it told me It's a look I know I'll never forget You could've come over to my side You could've let me know You could've tried to see the distance between us But it seemed too far for you to go (so far to go) Do you remember? (Do you remember?) Ooh, do you remember? (Do you remember?) Through all of my life In spite of all the pain You know, people are funny sometimes They just can't wait to get hurt again Tell me, do you remember? (Do you remember?) There are things we won't recall And feelings we'll never find It's taken so long to see it 'Cause we never seemed to have the time There was always something more important to do More important to say But, "I love you" wasn't one of those things And now it's too late (now it's too late) (now it's too late) Do you remember? (Do you remember? Now it's over) (Do you remember? Ooh, it's over) Ooh, do you remember? (Do you remember? Now it's over) (Do you remember? Ooh, it's over) ooh, yeah Tell me, do you remember? (Do you remember? Now it's over) Ooh, do you remember? (Do you remember? Ooh, it's over) Tell me now, tell me now (Do you remember? Now it's over) Tell me now, tell me now (Do you remember? Ooh, it's over) Do you remember? (Do you remember? Now it's over) (Do you remember? Ooh, it's over)

Understood, and I agree, even though I'm no fan of Collins, whose music was ubiquitous at the time (I do like this song, however). Still, might I suggest that the "bittersweet sense of nostalgia" is in part driven by a black-and-white music video that is itself steeped in nostalgia and innocence?
