I have this really rare, almost superhuman ability that helps me in situations like this. It's called being able to separate art from artist. If I stopped listening to any music from anyone who did something bad, my house would be silent.

I listen to burzum and the smiths and all manner of "problematic" artists and I don't think I could ever consciously enjoy a lostprophets song. Separation of art from artist is applicable when they harbor a thought or opinion that doesn't align with yours, but "the singer literally had sex with a baby" goes way beyond that lol

I struggle with this constantly as they were a huge part of my musical life in my teens. I have so much nostalgia from their music. Their first 2 albums honestly blew my mind at the time and I still can’t help but love those albums. However, there is still a part of me that feels like everything is tainted when I listen to them now and I actually feel guilty when I’m jamming out to them. It’s just a really weird/awkward thing after the vile and absolutely disgusting things (that I won’t even mention his gross name) did.

This is a strange video to pop up. Thanks, KZbin algorithm. Lostprophets was my favorite band in my teens. They filmed the Fake Sound of Progress music video where I live. Their concert here in Vegas at the Huntridge is something a lot people remember, and is one of my favorite concert memories of all time. Shinobi vs. Dragon Ninja led into people doing a wall off death, something so wild I lost my shoes. I have pictures of Ian and I, he tossed me a water bottle I desperately needed, and signed it later. I was a teenager, and who could imagine what was to come? I went to every concert I possibly could. I met a girl that I dated for a good amount of time at a show they did here. For a while, I planned to get a tattoo of the Phoenix logo from Start Something. I chickened out, but randomly, a friend I met in college actually had put it on his hip. We both loved the band. Now, he has a reminder of someone abhorrent. He's one of my better friends still, but he can't wipe that off. No Devotion meant a lot to me. I wanted those guys to get away from the trauma. I have their records framed on my wall, and they'll always be important. They'll stay with me all the time.

I used to chat regularly with Chiplin (the drummer) at the pontypridd municipal arts centre where they held gigs every friday. At this point he had left the band due to Ian's change of attitude through the fame they accrued and didnt have a good word to say about him towards the end. The group I hung around with all loved the first two albums but the music was drifting more towards the mainstream, looking back it was probably to get more young girls to the show, it seems like a stretch to say that but knowing the extent of that mans depravity, I reckon in the end, everything was done to further his perverted ways and Chiplin wanted no part of it or the low energy anthemic slop that they started putting out. It was quickly becoming the Ian Watkins show. For all the good memories we shared with those albums, I still hope that man suffers endlessly in his cell. All that being said, I was banging out shinobi vs dragon ninja this morning. Once the art is out there it's the peoples and good music is good music, but damn does it make me question if I should even listen to it. The very definition of a guilty pleasure I suppose.

Band carried basically all of my teenage year memories and ended up in a fiery wreck, it died with that colourful and vivid 2000s.. Like many others I don't simply just miss the band, I also miss that timeline when the days were better. When lyrics had meanings, not full of autotune/ cheap writings followed by endless drama. Songs were exciting, those days felt like a never ending summer party night... Absolutely killed me that one man ruined so much, for so many. Instead they just yelled at him for being late to shows. They cared more about their careers and income than what he was doing and the harm he was causing. They also had access to his laptop. To summarise your question: HELL NAW TO THE NAW, NAW, NAW. However, the bandmates was my teenagehood apart from Ian. I'm felt sorry about the band other and I am glad that they are doing well.

Someone's finally said this. I won't ever stop listening to LP songs because I can separate music from its singers. Thanks to LP music I was able to live my damn life in 2000s.

the video to town called hypocrisy has a little extra addded spice now ... but the rest of the band did nowt and lets face it its great music ... also personally i was never sure how guilty Ian was i would hope his drug habit made him vulnerable to a spider who had blackmail on her mind and that he is not the monster he was portrayed to be but then we will never know the truth ... in my opinion ..

Yes I do :) just separate the art from the artist and BAM! You got a really good band. I mean, hey, there is five other members in this band, don't forget that! This band shouldn't be hate because of one and only person. But, yep, Watkins is still a trash!

I listened to this band during their entire career, to the point where I bought their entire catalog; I still have it, but I don't listen to them very often. I guess no matter how hard you try to separate the artist from their art, or you study hermeneutics... Because of the values most of us grew up with. There will always be this sense of "guilt" Whatever. Fu... You Ian for ruining the band that I loved during my teenage years in the 2000.

Sorry, but I’ll never stop listening to them for nostalgic reasons, and knowing what ian said about America, being the big mouth that he is, there’s no wonder he was eventually done for something inexcusable. I don’t know, look into it yourself guys 🤷‍♂️

I in fact think it's unfair towards the rest of the band to abbandon the music alltogether. Huge part of what made this band for me was the music. And while I haven't listened to too many songs of them I have yet to find to one that somehow let's anything shine through of what a Sicko Watkins was. Still I only listen to it in private since I feel like it could be of bad taste to publicly play LP (especially if victims of abuse or similar are around) ...

Seen them live with my brother, they were amazing back in the day but no way can I listen to them after what Ian did, that's why you don't drugs.. He thinks it's rock n roll, whereas the rest of us feel it's a good way to throw your life away.

Well I don't think you should do drugs but drugs weren't the reason that he's a pedophile. Lots of people are drug addicts and they wouldn't think for a second about molesting children, babies. He is depraved.

Same. There were so many details of his disturbing activity spoken about on forums and chatrooms back in the day. Not to mention people reporting him to the police. But nobody contacted the other band members and they didn’t hear the rumors? It’s really hard to believe
