Nowadays, if anyone ever talks about Lostprophets, it probably has to do with the sick acts of their frontman. But what about the music that the band left behind? That is what we will be taking a deeper look into in this video, which I'm sure is not going to sit right with everyone.
Intro: 00:00
Early Years: 1:16
The Fake Sound of Progress: 3:08
Start Something: 6:32
Liberation Transmission: 11:30
The Betrayed: 14:38
Weapons: 17:09
Outro/Conclusion: 19:21
All music and footage used is not owned by me. No profit is made from this video, it is made for entertainment purposes only.

And thank you F.A.D. Entertainment for making this video. Your assessment is spot on, this catalog of music is far too good to be hidden away forever, the whole band doesn't deserve to be erased because of IW.

It’s funny tho that the history always gets mixed up. It was me and IW that formed Lp while they played in Public Disturbance. We asked Mike to join on bass and he got moved to guitar when we recorded with Stu as we were blown aaay by how good Stu was on bass.

I know this video is a year old now, but I still catch myself coming back to the band multiple times. The band was fantastic, and though Ian is a disgusting excuse for a human, he was skilled at singing and had the ability to keep people hooked with very catchy hooks and lines. Sad we will never get another band like them.

I still listen to LP as of today. I don't HATE the band as a whole, just Ian. I just wish LP could still perform. All they had to do was just get a new singer. Since Lee Gaze also founded the band he had the rights of ownership of the band and Ian would lose all privileges after his arrest. LostProphets will always be awesome. (Minus Ian, he can burn in HELL.)

Hard not to feel bad for the other guys in the band Obviously not as bad as I feel for Watkin's victims, but the rest of them lost more than just a gig. They're entire discography, decades of work is blacklisted. No one is going to license that music any time soon. Normally, popular bands with a healthy discography can rely on future income through legacy alone. Not former LP members though. F you Watkins.

I 100% agree with everything you said. Lostprophets' discography is incredible, and despite all the horrible things that happened I've never stopped listening to their music. How they managed to make five albums with virtually no bad or skippable song baffles me, and I've always unironically said their tracks should be studied in songwriting classes: they're the catchiest thing imaginable and a part of me always tried to keep them in mind while writing for my band. I've seen a lot of people burn their CDs and act like Lostprophets never existed, but I can't: perhaps I'm wrong, but I think you should always separate art from the artist. Plus, as you said, there were five other people in the band (I'm glad to see Lee Gaze stumbled upon this video as well), and if Watkins' actions should be despised, the other poor guys' art should be celebrated. Cheers from Italy, Armando P.S.: Start Something is INSANE.

I remember when I heard Wake up (Make a Move) for the very first time. I remember when I ran to the record store to see if they already had the next album. Liberation, Betrayed and Weapons. We are approaching to ten years of Lostprophets' demise and still hurts. I go back and listen to those records sometimes, records that were part of my teenage years and adulthood. I remember when the news broke (I am from Colombia, but a friend of mine who lives in the UK told me via Live Messenger) and I couldn't believe it, and I still can't believe this man who had it all, not just money, he was a handsome man, that hid such a dark part of himself.

They were such good memories. I still feel sad sometimes that I will never get to see them again (but I know that's nothing compared to what the victims have been through including the rest of the band). I still listen to Lostprophets, I love all of their albums, Start Something also being my favourite! At the end of the day the other members of Lostprophets all had (and I am sure still have) so much talent and they don't deserve to be forgotten or put down just because of one person. Their music was phenomenal and it will always be a part of my life :).

The reason I say that because after 22 years & many new or old bands i love, they are still my #1 favorite bands. i still connect to ALL (yes all) of their songs. Some how some way each song means something special to me. I do not condone what Ian did 1 bit, but at the end of the day, I connected with this band & their music on the soul level. Thanks for coming to my TED talk. 🍻 !!Alabama!!!

Good job man! It's heartbreaking that the music has been tarnished by everything around Ian. It is a super hard topic for most and I can completely understand that. But I do, even more now reading these comments and watching this video feel a sense of relief. It seems I'm far from alone in having a genuine tie and connection to these tracks and music from my youth, especially for me "Last Summer" but yet I'm torn, because obviously none of us can get over what Ian did, and why should we, what he did is wrong on all levels. Unfortunately separating the music from the artist is near impossible. Anyway, what I can take away from this, is a surprisingly comforting feeling. To know that I'm far from alone in my love for these amazing albums, especially their second album. Thanks for the video, and acknowledging the elephant in the room. 👍🏾😊

THANK YOU for saying this! One of my favourite ever bands too, and equally I find it awkward to discuss them with anyone. "What he did was just too wrong," one of my friends said. "People aren't comfortable." So frustrating. I rediscovered lostprophets last summer (convenient pun) during lockdown and have listened to them almost daily since. I keep finding new meanings in the lyrics and discovering new love for tracks I'd previously skipped or just not really listened to. Still Laughing is one - the last section where the awesome tapping riff starts, and Ian is singing something that I hope he hasn't forgotten: "I'm still waiting; I still breathe; That's a sign that I'm still me; I'm still breathing; I can see; So I must be alive for real"

Im so glad i found this video. Ive only found out about this band after the incident of Ian Watkins sadly, but i just fell in love with the songs, and i couldn't get enough of it. If Ian Watkins didn't do what he did, this would easily be my favorite band, because ive never seen such a band that sounds similar to it as of late (this band is just unique). I do feel a guilty pleasure listening to it, but i guess the only one we have to blame is Ian, for putting an end to his carreer and all of the other members. The fact that this band has all of the genres i love, going from nu-metal to an emo-style rock, just baffles me, and i still can't believe that Ian Watkins just wasted a gem of a band for his own narcissistic and sick desires.

Thank you 🙏 I DESPISE what Ian did, especially as someone who used their music to cope with their own abuse that I was going through at that time. Even though I can’t stand seeing his face but I can’t help still having that spot in my heart for the lostprophets music. They’re STILL the GREATEST live act I’ve seen. Nobody came close. Not my chemical romance, not good Charlotte. NOBODY. Haha 😆 I’ve wished someone would. I genuinely miss having that special thing to look forward to. 😔 Hoping Nova Rockafeller takes that top spot next. 🤞

Having seen all the comments, I totally agree... but I have to mention that when we are young, exciting new music is discovered every minute/hour/day/week, however not so often as we grow up. I was 35'ish when I first heard the LoPh's and it was like becoming a teenager again! Finding something I could enthuse about so much and and rant at all my mates about at all available opportunities. What an incredible experience. Seeing them live 3 or 4 times I have "tour T shirts" that I can no longer wear, however they are still somewhere in my wardrobe (!) Being a musician/performer/writer, I recognise that they made some amazing stuff. I had never seen the subtitle to Never Gonna Catch Tomorrow but hearing the track, I immediately picked up on the line "good shoes won't save you this time" and was spell bound , as with most of Watkins' lyrics. Complimented by the awesome musicianship of course. I hope the rest of all the guys are ok and they are getting their due royalties. This critique and presentation is perfect... Very well done.

Recently I reviewed their discography. I’m someone that’s never heard of them till recently. To me it seemed like they were really with whatever was popular at the time. Nu-Metal on their first album, Hoobistank on the 2nd, then emo on the third. They went from “we’ll kick your ass” rocker dudes to “please don’t kick our ass” emo aesthetic. As an American it makes sense why they didn’t make it here. The sounds they experimented with were beaten to death in the states. We had so many pop punk and Nu Metal bands that Brits never heard of. You couldn’t really distinguish LostProphets from any of those bands. They did get bad reviews here. With the negative out the way. LostProphets had some good guitar riffs. There were a handful of songs I liked. The lyricism was pretty creative sometimes. Melodies weren’t the best until Liberation Transmission.

They were a great band. It's just such a sad situation. They are part of that great early 2000s nu metal scene. I was only a kid when they were popular. It isn't fair that we aren't allowed to listen to them sort of like people think forgetting them will somehow erase what Ian did. Looking at them musically they still hold up and we should be allowed to separate the art from the artist.

Great video! Together with Linkin Park, these guys were my fav band when growing up. The fake sound of progress and start something are fucking amazing imo. Liberation Transmition was cool but to me had lost a bit of the energy, even though I like most songs and still very much enjoy most of the album. I have a very broad taste in music and as I grew older I went through different phases and shifted to old school hip hop. This resulted in me actually missing the last two albums and only discovering them much later. Gave them a listen but it honestly didn’t convince me so I just stuck to the “old” albums. Then I heard about Watkins crimes...Quite heartbreaking for everyone involved (The victims, the fans, the other band members). It really tarnished everything. I’ve been listening to the old albums again, especially the first two and it’s weird because obviously I can’t forget what he did, but the music is still great. I do believe in being able to separate art from artist (while still acknowledging that a certain connection is always going to be present and being aware of who the artist is, to not be ignorant of reality and the connections). I also think it is important to talk about this stuff without immediately losing ones shit about it. It is possible to enjoy great albums that shaped my teen years while still being aware and reflective of the terrible things that they are connected to. It’s important to talk about this shit, not just brush it under the rug. Thanks for being honest and real about your opinions of the band.

A true story to lighten the mood, I used to live in Cardiff and a few months before Watkins got arrested I was in a nightclub called Bogiez (which was the local rock club). Also in there was a guy called Magzy who played guitar for a few of the local hardcore bands. Watkins walks in and then out of no where a slightly inebriated Magzy lunges for and beats down Watkins. A few years later we joked/theorized that Magzy had a premonition of what Ian had done so got his shots in early. Apparently No Devotion are working on a new record I wish them the best.

I absolutely despise IW for the horrible, inhumane crimes he's committed and I'm glad he's getting his just dessert by rotting in prison, he deserves a harsher punishment if you ask me but it's better than no punishment As for the music, it makes me sad to see such good music and talent wasted, Start Something was an amazing album and The Fake Sound of Progress and Liberation Transmission were also very good albums

Respect to ya for recognising that it is the integrity o the music that matters. Of course his Victims must not be forgotten, but this was outside of the bands control an tarnishing them only increases the amount of Victims. If people are unable to debate, or consider the music as it's own entity, then maybe their inability to do so represents their own lack of creative critical thinking!!

@@JaymeSplendid He was actually a talented artist. And I say that as someone with a degree in art myself. But the difference between what scum Ian is as a person and what the Austrian painter was about and fought for is fucking night and day. Your silly view of the painter consists only of what you’ve been taught to believe/think about him, as you have clearly never done any unbiased research into what actually happened back then and what he was really like. Do you seriously think that victors teach historical reality, much less the reality about their enemies in war? Get real. We are taught the dude is such a ridiculous cartoonish villain. It’s absurd. @@fridaythe13ththegamekills54 Well ideally it would have been nice for the band to make another album like Start Something, but I would have been fine with a continuation of what they had been doing with Weapons as well. As I mentioned in the video, the void left by lp really has never been filled, so just about any continuation would've done the job for me. Somehow, I'm only just seeing this video. A great summary of a fantastic band without doing it any injustice of going too much into "the elephant in the room." I thought you might like this video on the same sort of topic. It's Sean (Formerly of The Blackout) who was obviously once friends with IW, so much so they featured on eachothers albums (Ian appeared on The Blackout's song "It's High Tide Baby", and Sean provides the screamed vocals on "Everyday Combat"). But in this video he hits the nail on the head with the quote "let's not make 'Lostprophets' a dirty word." kzbin.info/www/bejne/a5ushYKkppiIpdE

As someone who discovered their music through racing games (Forza Horizon 1 to be more specific), I still enjoyed the band even with Ian Watkins' despicable actions. I was horrified when I found out, and I struggled to accept listening to their music. It wasn't easy separating the art from the artist if you ask me. However, I've been picking up Lostprophets back up, and I am happy the other members are in a much better with No Devotion even if they've distanced themselves for a good reason. Thanks for the video.

Here's my perspective on Lostprophets: When I was a kid, I was playing Need For Speed: Underground and found this song in the game's soundtrack: "To Hell We Ride" from Start Something. That's how I first heard about the band. In Savox's video on 7 of the most evil musicians, Savox played a clip of "Rooftops". To be honest, I was afraid of checking out a couple of LP's songs on KZbin because it would probably make me look like a bad person because I already heard about Ian's conviction. I actually wanted to check them out because I was curious, so I needed to hear some opinions on this situation. I found a someone asking a question on Quora if it's morally wrong to listen to LP with the knowledge of Ian's conviction. Two people answered and both of whom said no. I was also like, "Screw it. I'm only gonna live once." I actually like the two songs "To Hell We Ride" and "Rooftops", and they're only two songs I have downloaded on my phone.

But The Betrayed will ever have a place in my heart. Nice to see that I'm not the only that can't stop listening to their Songs. Sadly always after I listened an Album I have bad feelings coming to my mind about the things Ian did. If I can't handle that I listen to No Devotion and Young Guns. People do terrible sh!t all the time, it shouldn’t distract you from the art. If it did stop you from consuming I guarantee their would their would be much less products about, as that’s all it is... a product. First time I seen LP was in the cavern in Liverpool years ago and they were piss poor tbh I think it was just before first album probably just the run up to the release, met Ian a few times an always questioned his attitude later confirmed. That being said him an the lads were great songwriters, shame! Too much of this disgusting behaviour about, but art is art. Enjoy it for what it is, be cool an don’t be a Ian ‘nonce’kins 👎 coz that’s not cool at all.. !!! I wish the rest of the lads in the band all the best for the future.. Hope the spark isn’t totally gone... an they can continue to create. peace ✌️ X.
