So the pallet walkway installation video was the first video of yours I ever saw. I had just been through a divorce. You showed me in that video that women can do things we may not think we can do. Not long after I started purchasing a power tool here and there and eventually made my own raised beds from the ground up. Bought a saw and cut the boards. Stained and sealed them. Assembled them with a little help from my sons. Maybe your pallet walk way was a terrible idea to you in retrospect but please remember that, even if unbeknownst to you, you are inspiring some of us to believe that we can do hard things! I will miss your pallet walkway Laura, as it adds another dimension to your beautiful garden. It adds a rustic charm and provides another feature in your garden, just as your formal rose garden or the water feature provides. It has that unique rustic and secret garden effect, and the garden around the old gazebo provided. I'm sure your children will appreciate any 'secret' gardens. My little 7yr old granddaughter keeps asking me, "Have you made anymore secret gardens for me to play in?" Children seem to appreciate it!🥰🌳🌲 It adds a point of interest that is quite different than your wider and more formal stone pathways. Your cottage gardens along this pathway were stunning as well. What you wear Laura is no one's concern. You always look nice.

I'm with Aaron on the tree planting. We have clay soil and have added a lot of organic matter to our soil including very thick woodchips. I've run into more issues with the trees I planted early on that are more "sunk" because of work on the soil and woodchips or mulch added later.

A tree was the first thing I planted in my yard as a new (completely uneducated) gardener. I definitely planted it too low and the flare is now buried. There's no real way to correct the problem and it's very well established now. I just pull soil back away from the trunk every spring, try to mitigate the resulting downward slope, and cross my fingers.

Then my husband decided to buy a really expensive fish, without telling me the cost (like 10x's the average) and just added it to the pond. Two days later we had a blue herring visit the pond & it chose this expensive fish to eat as it's appetiser 😂 Eventually my husband admitted how much he'd spent on it lol saying it was karma for not being truthful about it's cost 🤣 😂 He vowed never again to spend so much to feed a wild bird!!! 😂😂😂

Your bottom dwellers play a critical part in tank and ponds and stir up crud that will be cycled out through skimmers. Also. Expect him to easily live 10 years. Also the tannins will, in fact, disappear, but it will take time. Us Aquascaping community usually soak our wood prior if that's not desired look. Leaves and other debris will also contribute to tannins in the water as well.

I'm surprised a landscaper has not commented on the plant tree high discussion 🤦🏻♀️ My husband was a foreman at a high-end landscaping company 35 years ago and says that they were planting trees high back then. Here at home we plant all our trees and shrubs high and never have had an issue. It's actually best for the tree so that the water runs away from the center of the root ball and towards the tips of the roots which is where trees take in the moisture and help with root growth.

Laura and Aaron, We live in zone 8a and we have a pond, not nearly as large as yours. We have a bubbler (for lack of a better word) in the center bottom of our pond that keeps the water in motion. Three years ago when TX had that horrible freeze, that made news everywhere, and before that when we had the major ice storm and it was below freezing every night for well over a week (developed cobblestone ice) our pond did not suffer any damage. The little bubbler kept the water moving. There was ice from the rims of the pond over to the center but the center area never froze. Just a thought. I would have never thought of a water heater in the pond. Of course, y'all probably have weeks of below freezing in a row so you may truly need a water heater in your pond.

Today as I walked I was admiring a beautiful tree that I have been following. The change in color started at the top and is working the way down. It is about half way now. I think of Aaron, it is his kind of tree! Maybe 100 feet? So, have you ever though of viewers sharing fall colors for a vlog? I LOVE FALL COLORS! 💜💛💚💙🐸😎

I think the boxwood hedge is perfect because it is so peaceful and (to me) it is meant to be. I like the structure plus the plants on the right side of the brick sidewalk makes it balanced and perfect. (for me) this area would be too busy. It's great that all of us have different ideas - that's what I love about other gardeners and gardens!
