@@SeraphsWitness I'm not exactly understanding what you're saying. I'm not talking about a court examination, I'm talking about the headline. There is no such thing as an unintentional lie. There is no reason that I can imagine, as a lawyer (which I am) why anyone would have to refer to a distinction between "intentional" and "unintentional" lies when the latter does not exist.

@@professorwigginslectures3808 A lawyer should know full well that in common vernacular "lie" can be - and often is - used as a synonym for falsehoods in general not just intentional falsehoods. If she'd simply said 'Do you think Dr. Fauci lied to Congress?' and he interpreted that in the broad, vernacular sense he might've said 'yes' even if he thought Fauci had said what he truly believed but simply happened to be incorrect. By using the phrase "intentionally lie to Congress" she was deliberately narrowing the focus to eliminate the possibility of the witness giving a false-positive answer. It also serves to eliminate the possibility of layperson citizens watching the hearing misconstruing what was asked and answered.

I find it fascinating that in American parliamentary hearings, witnesses actually answer questions. In Canada it hasn't been like that for years and years. Not even under oath or during an inquiry. They just deflect, or give word salads about some other random issue, every time. It's not even a ''I don't remember'' or throwing someone under the bus. The substance of the question is simply not even adressed. It's actually suprising to me that things are so much different (worse) here.
