You like most who comment similar things are ignorant to what Jordan is saying and are stuck playing primitive games. Peterson’s religious views, which he has clearly detailed in thousands of hours of video, are apparently beyond your conception. Most “religious” people just compulsively feed their ego by getting hopped up on tribal moralism and metaphysical fairytale delusions. Because of this they think of god as a static entity, just like any other earthly object, but with immense power, sitting in some far away realm. Have you forgotten that we are made in the image of God? Gods true working is through us who are called by our deepest spirit to do his work, establishing order and peace. God is real just as all creation is real, evident to the keen eye in the workings of reality and the human experience of life. God is the one who creates all that is good out of the chaotic nothingness. He does not speak in your ear like a poltergeist, he possesses you and works in you if you are pure hearted enough, discerning enough. Most christians just worship idols, the self-serving figments of their mind, ignorant to the reality of god. Everything they do is in order to bolster and protect their fragile conceptions of life that barely keep them afloat. There is nothing holy about that, worshiping your own imagination, copying what other people have said, reaping the social benefits and continuing to be blind to the message of the Bible hiding in plain sight. Try some honest self-inquiry and you may see god for the first time! Start by throwing out your overly literal childish concepts of the sky father and read the bible as a guidebook for the human endeavor, a document of ancient people’s battle against evil, a key to receiving the holy spirit. Apply this wisdom in your mind and see how the images play out across your subconscious.

The stories in the Talmud and New Testament (and partly in the Qu'ran, but my own thoughts about that are less relevant here) are accounts of about 6000 years of human experience, all consistent, with extra-Biblical sources that record and support the same events. That makes me think that my own feelings, as one human being, in the light of these ancient texts might need some tempering before I make it the hill I die on, so to speak. All, by the way, also consistent with why one has inherent value as a human being 😉 I am curious though, what did you find so funny?

@@grietjie93 No one, has inherent value as a person. Perhaps I'm missing something., We are fundamentally ants and only have value as far as our familial connections will grant us. The Abrahamic god is one of the greatest killers of humans to date so if a god does not value humans, how are we other than myopic narcissists? JP likely has an IQ north of 140 while his audience is largely around 100, statistically speaking, so the god in his mind, becomes conflated in the minds of the audience into the existence of the Abrahamic god, who covers the last 6,000 years per say. If this is the case, you are terribly myopic as the books you revere are from the recent past only. How often have you read the Egyptian Book of the Dead, to find extra proofs of their gods in the 4th to 6th Dynasties? As for "extra-Biblical sources" that record and support same events, I would be grateful if you could name one that does not take its core claims from said same book or anthology? If I want extra-Homeric sources, I can find Caprice on a map, I can find Ithaca and I have therefore little doubt to not believe that when Athen(a) transmuted Odysseus into a beggar man so that he could slay Penelope's suitors, that this indeed was a true fact, as Ithaca exists. This would appear to be the logic of your statement. I have little doubt that you would not find the truth of the Cyclops to be such, just because these islands existed? Perhaps this is an archaeological dig that you may care to pursue but most persons would find you to be a little unhinged were this the case. It is hilarious that JP needs to be obfuscatory just because he is concerned that as a psychologist, that we would undo or became an existential threat were he to admit that the Abrahamic god lineage is no more truthful than any other gods that has emerged from any other man created god. He is taking his one-on-one clinical practice and trying to throw it over everyone as he has no better solution atm, for the pain of human existence and tries to plug it with Abrahamic religion. The cemeteries are full of the irrelevant, don't be irrelevant in life too., Don't be afraid of life and don't be afraid of death for in death, you have no problems, but live this life like a beacon, not a black hole , not afraid that there is a plan, just for you! Speaking as a christian myself, never understood this "heart" thing. Sounds like a another case of the hyper-emotionalism that is found is american protestantism. We live in a time period where you can't merely "believe by heart" (whatever that exactly means). That's a luxury we do not have anymore. We live in a secularized world where religion is now a separate domain (vaguely anyway). You have to actually know what you believe and why, everything must be spelled out and deliberate. You need to have a rational faith (not rational-ism).

God is real, but I believe JC is a distraction who steals the glory from God, violating the 1st and 2nd commandment. I believe the NT if a false book meant to scare people with hell fire into staying in Xianity. I believe the NT was added on to the torah/tanach, similar to the book of mormon being added on, and both are false to lead people astray from the father. Read Isaiah...read the OT before reading the NT. God tells us many times in the OT that he alone is the only God, there is none other, he is our only saviour, he will not come as a man, and he shares his glory with none other. Why would God need a man-god child. He forgives those with a contrite heart as its said in the OT. Animal sacrifice is not needed....jewish people performed sacrifice for unintentional sins and to cleanse the sanctuary/alter. I believe if a religion makes you go thru a man to be saved, it is a false religion. There is no reference to JC in the OT. Follow rabbi tovia Singers channel.

I never understand why Jordan insists on being such a Sophist in regards to the question of if God is real or not. It seems like there are many ways one could pose the question to get at the root of what people are asking. For example, one could ask “is God real in the sense that he has his own thoughts that no one knows about?”. I have to believe Jordan knows exactly what people mean when they ask if God is real, and it is something more like this question. Just answer the question and be brave enough to handle how your audience is going to react either way. “I don’t know” is also a fine answer, but stop pretending like you have no idea what people are asking or as if the questions is meaningless.

If you're going to say "What is...?" you're assuming that the "is" of the question - the fact of it having _being_ is already understood and not dependent on further elaboration. Some things are *_self-evident_* and if we don't start by admitting that, then we shouldn't bother to try to address anything of a factual nature. There is a story of a buddha figure answering this question much more simply while at the same directing the questioners to seek the answer(s) for themselves... When asked twice by two different people "does god exist?" he answered yes to the first and no to the second... leaving them both bewildered and confused and more importantly wishing to seek the summit of knowledge themselves that such contradicting answers could be conceived. A person unable to apprehend reality transcendent of dualistic thinking cannot apprehend reality itself. The point being-why ask whether something within the conscious context of a false reality is indeed real? At this point it doesn't matter. What matters is experiential self-knowledge to its end. Reality shines forth by its own accord in our individual consciousness in its own time. The right effort or attention is needed for this. "Who am I?" is the question to be genuinely contemplating. That is the road to the truth, that is the road to the "real."

«Sin is not ended by multiplying words, but the prudent hold their tongues.» Proverbs 10:19 NIV So many words. He (Jordan) is afraid of speaking plainly and straight forward, maybe afraid of being labeled. That’s understandable, but also a sign that he might not have been born again and renewed and regenerated by the Holy Spirit. The word of God says: «And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.» Hebrews 11:6 NIV

Amen! Dr. Peterson is so near the truth I think part of it is he has bought the lie of works based salvation. Ephesians 2: 8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast. Faith first why? Faith is a word that postmodernism has redefined. When you look at what Faith used to mean it makes more sense. The english word Faith comes from the Latin word Fidelis translated means loyal, trustworthy, truthful. Loyal trust doesn't mean anything if it isn't found in the truth! John 8:32 the truth shall make you free This is why faith comes first. If your loyal trustful works are done blindly it is pride the cardinal sin. If your loyal trustful works are done in truth it is true faith. This is what Protestants mean when they say saving faith and not of works because saving faith: (loyal trust to the truth) produces works. And most importantly if faith:(loyal trust to the truth) comes first it insures that your works done in the right direction! Protestants absolutely believe in works just not before faith the order matters!

Real means: Within reality. He is without reality. Meaning on the outside of all of it. So He is definitionally not "real" even though He exists. Jesus is Real. And is the Son of the Father, the Word made Flesh. But a subtler understanding of the trinity means that even though Jesus Is God made Flesh. And He and the Father are One, that does not mean THE FATHER in all of HIS GLORY is "Real". Because THE FATHER has never lighted on the Earth or within his 3D spacetime other than in the flesh of the Son, or through Angels, whos bodies are subtle (literally hallucination that is what subtle body means and hallucinations aren't "real" either).

I heard someone recently ask Jordan how you get to the Kingdom of God, and he couldn't answer it. Folks, Jordan has not believed the gospel message according to the scriptures yet, he is not born again. What he is doing is pschoanalyzing the scriptures by the ideas of mankind. He is actually misinterpreting the bible a lot. The veil still remains on His face and he can't see unless Jesus removes that veil. Don't rely upon Him for biblical advice. He does not have the Holy Spirit within Him. Yes, he is a brilliant man, but the scriptures are spiritually discerned according to the scriptures. You need to have "been born" again by God's power and given the Holy Spirit to be able to see properly. Jordan could not answer how you get to heaven, he stumbled and changed the subject. He isn't a believer at this moment, he is following an empty religion, like a lot were doing in the time Jesus walked the earth, and he corrected them a lot about it. Jesus told Nicodemus that you cannot enter the Kingdom of God, unless you are "born again". Jordan isn't, so it isn't wise to take advice from him on the bible.

I don't believe he believes in the 'literal' Bible stories as presented, otherwise, he would say so. He very carefully chooses his words because I believe that he believes FAITH is really important for humanity. After all, HOPE is all some people really have, so he can't just say what I said without offending folks that follow him. He wants the best for humanity at the end of the day. Ancient mythological writing has some of the best wisdom that stands the test of time, so I understand why he loves it.

Genesis 6 is the scriptural basis for those who believe that many of the ancient mythological stories were based on real events. Being Predaluvian, and although they have disappeared, these Mighty men of yore: have been given their place in history by the Holy Scripture no less. It appears that Certain extra rules were instituted, and punishment applied to offenders, as this has not occurred since the flood. It is a facinating study, and provides avenues for answers to questions that were previously gordian knots. The fact that Norse, Greek, and Roman mythology, all had similar stories but different names, gives one: reason to consider what could possibly be the catalyst for such coincidences

I believe there is a time to not answer a question and to make a point, and there is a time to just answer what people mean by the question. Maybe there is a better way to formulate the question, but to get the question formulated perfectly would be difficult for the average person. I believe JP knows what people mean when they ask this question, but he seems to refuse to answer the question that is intended to get at. I think someone needs to push him on this, someone with an intelligence that matches his so he can be challenged to ask himself this question honestly. Perhaps the question should be formed like this... Do you believe the being which Christian's describe as God exists? In other words, is "that which nothing greater can be found" exists in such a way that God is cognizant, personal, and intentional, thus creating and governing the universe in an intelligent, ordered and good manner such that all things truly will work out to his inevitable, good purposes. Another way for him to face this is he could read Anselm's writings in Prosologion and Monologion and ask, do I agree with him?

When you say “It depends on what you mean by God” and “real” I think what you are saying is, There are many many many false gods in the world. Our Lord told us that many should come in His name saying, I am Christ, and would deceive many. And Lewis writes that we often place our ideas and our perceptions and our thoughts in place of God, and we worship them instead of God. He wrote, “I need Christ, not my idea of Him.” And you’re trying to get people to destroy those idols and know God. And you’re just as popular as any iconoclast is. "Sacrifice is at the basis of community." This makes so much sense when you contrast that to short-term gratification being the basis of selfishness.

one of those phrases that's easy to say, but i'm not sure i can wholly agree with it. i am sure sacrifice might be a component of keeping in step with a community of others that is not originally set up to mirror self - but what else might be foundational drivers of community - such as fear, love, belonging, mission, joint purpose, aim and intention, emergence. i feel like his statement needs narrowing down e.g. what is "basis"?! and so on, and what communities does he have in mind? it's a broad word. maybe forgiveness come into it, or respect, or aware of self-limitations, or already having in-house Christian-type assumptions and POV, from where it's easy to leap to 'sacrifice'. might other cultures or ways say surrender? and try/hope to recognize that in others?

I find Russel Brand to be one of the most fascinating individuals alive today. So much of what I've seen in him was so entirely unexpected that it blows my mind, and in an absolutely positive way.

What people are really asking is "Do you think there is an afterlife?"

Yes god is to cope with mortality and theres prob something in human nature to create an hierarchy to abide to by establishing god as the highest being to that hierarchy. This creates cooperation and strong in-group mentality that allows for better competition vs other tribes.

I'll lose my family if I get too technical at the dinner table. Any of my Chris Hitchens routine and they will get up and walk away from me. I said that "Alice in Chains" was my favorite band and my very religious sister jumped up and ran away from me. They know about my nihilism. So I don't do that anymore. I'd rather be silent and loved than have my point be dominant. You'll be a lone voice in a good crowd. If they were bad folks, I'd have 1,000 reasons to start up some academic flack about "On The Origin of Species" or some family members being protestant and left out of a baptism. I guess you can't be a protestant at a Catholic Baptism. I'm shocked that me, the notorious party animal was invited to a recent Catholic Baptism, but my brother who married into a Protestant Church was told not to go. It was his grandchild. Where's all that religious tolerance? I guess they still have hope for me because I never married.🤣

Exactly! And I would add. If his idea of God is different then no problem, but to tell people they dont know what they are asking is gas lighting.

Dear Russell, as a Christian myself it is always a joy when someone seeks Jesus Christ for the truth, Pilate asked Jesus "what is truth" Jesus said "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father (GOD) except through me" John 14:6. There is always room for one more! I hope your journey is a real one and genuine if so you will find the truth because ONLY Jesus made the claim he and God are one. By God's FREE GRACE THROUGH FAITH ALONE plus nothing else but by believing and trusting you can have your sins washed away by the saving blood of Jesus by the finished work of the cross John 19:30. God Bless you and your family! P.S Baptism does not save you it is an outward sign of an inward FAITH!

Jordan has his own journey and view of it. It may not look like what others think it should be but it's not for others to determine the purity of connection. He's a reasonable individual and decent guy. That's good enough and should be enough for anyone. Everyone out here saying he's not close or it's not good enough needs to stay in their lane and remember everyone's journey is their own
