Күн бұрын

Dr. Jordan B. Peterson sits down with actor and podcaster Russell Brand. They discuss the language of symbols, the collective unconscious, the evolution of theology, and why so many public intellectuals are coming back to Christ.
Russell Brand is an English comedian, actor, podcaster, and commentator. He first established himself as a stand up comedian and radio host before becoming a film actor. He presented for MTV UK and made appearances across media and TV throughout the 2000’s. In 2008, he leapt from British to U.S. film acting, appearing in the hit film “Forgetting Sarah Marshall,” followed by numerous international successes. In 2013, Brand guest-edited an edition of the weekly publication the New Statesman, launching his interest and later career as a political activist and commentator. His current podcast, Stay Free, sees Brand calling out major news, governments, and corporations for affronts to free speech, expression, spirituality, and thought.

I agree, not only is it necessary for long lasting and effective conversation, but he also made an amazingly good point, when he said (I'm paraphrasing here), trivializing hedonistic behavior to pride parades does JP no favors, because low and behold, even heterosexuals have degenerate and hedonistic behaviors, and should also be called out.

@@PostDeleted yes, I get that it does him no favors. RB has a better way to express his thoughts on that matter and that reaches maybe more people or encourage them to listen to the whole video. Eventhough I wouldn’t choose the same words, I believe, that JBP is talking about a very distinct group of ‘radical LGBTQIA+ community members&allies’ that have distorted the meaning of the word pride and display the pathological side of this worship-behavior. I think many of his gay and lesbian followers can make that distinction too.

Russell mentioned something extremely personal to me. In my 30’s I had a few years studying the Tibetan Buddhist tradition and every time I went to a prayer meeting, Jesus was always there with me, sitting on my right shoulder. He had been calling me for my whole life so far and some years ago now I became a confirmed Catholic and I know I’m where I’m meant to be. God is good and He is oh so patient. God bless you both 🙏🙏🙏

Russell is very much into Jung Jung is, unfortunately, steeped in Hinduistic ideas and concepts. His theory of Archetypes is not wrong because of that. But the great sin and mistake of Jungians is to lower our living God to the level of archetypes and metaphors. God is not an idea, not a concept, not a metaphor, HE is the living, personal God with a will and He is an active God. Jung's theory completely fails in this regard. Our real Lord does not fit into his puny, man-made theory. For us humans, it is fine to learn from it, but trying to force God into Jung's system is banal, futile, and blasphemous.

As an agnostic it's incredibly refreshing to hear a Christian bring the stories of the Bible into a more generalistic, philosophical fundamental form. For those of us abstract enough to be able to see the lessons in the stories, the idea that Jordan put forth of, essentially, God being the underlying waveform so to speak of the universe, rather than a conscious skydaddy in the clouds that I have to wrestle and combat with is groundbreaking. It allows me to consider working through and letting go of the War the universe and I have seemed to have waged on each other for decades. Thanks you JBP, for being the wizard archetype, the mentor, that most of us needed
@eafowler777

This conception is not new. In fact this has been the conception of God since the very beginnings of Christianity. I love Jordan but he usually doesn’t say anything original. You would be very rewarded by investigating the Church Fathers and philosophers like Thomas Aquinas. To me, it seems that Jordan has reached a point where his enquiry needs to progress into the more philosophic and metaphysical but he seems be be unable to break out of the confines of a Jungian/psychological conception of the Divine as well as humanity. This is evidenced by his constant reduction of phenomena to evolutionary byproducts.
@HarmonicWave
@HarmonicWave 10 күн бұрын
The God of the Bible is both though. He's the Prime Mover and source of all energy and matter; all was created from His breath, the vibrations and frequency of His voice. All life is sustained by this Breath of Life and if He breaks the connection with any of us we die, He's physically sustaining each of us constantly with the quantum energy flowing through our bodies. He has a perfect mind and will and simply wants us to live in accordance with His ways which lead to Life. If we disconnect ourselves from Him and fight against Him then our end will be Death. Jesus came forth from the Father, and when we turn to him he reconnects us to that Source of Life in a way that won't be broken even by physical death.

As an agnostic theist relating Christian theism to believing in a skydaddy is cringe. That's like equating Buddhist faith to theological nihilism. There's major metaphysical implications to such a belief that are quite fascinating. But if this belief makes you a better person I guess I can't fault you. Specifics don't really matter, if God is out there, he'll judge us individually. Also, I don't see myself as being "abstract enough" for anything, as if I'm on a higher plane of existence than everyone else is. I think this is stupid. Sorry, I might've sounded a bit rude, I respectfully disagree, I guess it's my subconscious habit of stamping out any possibility of pride and ego manifesting itself even further in my soul that made me a bit aggressive

Starting today, Mr. Peterson, praying for you and Mr. Brand. I would call you by your first name but I don’t know you like that so I hope you don’t mind I’d call you Mr. We are living in exciting times. The Bible when it comes to end time prophecies are coming true daily. I was saved in 1973, but I had a twisted ideology of what that meant it wasn’t until recently I understood what it means to be saved. My prayer for the both of you is that the pages of the Bible will come alive to you. No matter what you’re going through in life the Bible has an answer for it it’s written so simplistic that a 10 year old understand what the Bible is trying to convey. Mr. Peterson you have no idea how many people are praying for you throughout the world. Whether you believe in Christ or not, you will one day and I’m hoping it’s today not during the judgment seat of Christ. The Bible says this every knee will bow. Every tongue will confess that I am the Lord, I get chills thinking about that. Because Satan is the king of all lies he hate you. He hates me and the rest of the world because God loved us more. Once you understand what Satan wants most, your eyes will be open and you’ll be able to see evil that is in this world. Satan is the king of this world, but our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will one day come back and claim it back. My hope is that one day Christ will show himself to you in a way that you can’t deny so from today on my prayers will be with the both of you. God bless you and thank you for what you done for men, in today’s world.

You were saved when Jesus died on the cross. We do not save ourselves.... This is not to chastise you but consider: Ephesians 2:8-9 King James Version (KJV) For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: not of works, lest any man should boast. "and that not of yourselves" -we DO NOT save ourselves... Saying you have to believe is adding stipulation to the whole saved thing, something we must complete in order to receive the "saving". For those who will point to the "through faith"... Good eye... But have you asked "whose faith is being referenced?" (What's the context?) Couldn't it be through the faith of Jesus and his father to die on the cross as a man??? Wouldn't that even make more sense?? What is Faith anyway?? I'd say believing something (likely unpopular) you believe to be RIGHT and JUST.. I mean it doesn't take Faith to believe in air... And given all this is true how much faith is required to believe Jesus died on the cross and God is real are you staking very much?? How about Jesus's faith (because he was a man JUST LIKE you or me) to listen to his father God and willingly allow himself to be nailed and hung from a cross to die for the same people who spit on him cursed him and betrayed him... THAT is faith!! Me choosing to believe in God... Doesn't require much on my part to be honest... There is NO HELL (in the colloquial sense). Hell is being/living in sin while trapped within "the flesh".

Also original commenter you speak of Satan as if he has some "power" beyond the reach of God... Where do you think Satan came from? Do you think the creator of the entire universe, humanity, and even the concept of time itself didn't create Satan?? If not who created Satan because from what I gather God created the heavens and the Earth (a way of saying all things because he has got after all 😂)... If God didn't create Satan who did? There is no creation but that of the Lord...

That's a matter of opinion I think, having followed him on Rumble for the last 2 years I saw so much of his content - that actually was hateful and deceiving. Now I don't expect that you have spent as much time or effort as I have to know these things, and so I won't try to change your mind. But I will say this - there is more to life than just living for the moment, in selfish pride and thinking yourself the pinnacle of humanity. Christ showed us that we can be better, and that where we try hard enough to do that - even where we fail, our lives will improve. And that the effect we can have on others will then be magnified, causing others lives to be better through our work. Now, if he really has turned to Christ that invalidates much of the stuff he said before, and that's what I hope is the case.

Lately I’ve realized that often times, God guides us through some deserted quests not as any sort of punishment but on the contrary, to be able to see so much further while training our character for bigger things. Once you come to that realization, it becomes clear how important our flaws, falling and standing up again, are to achieve the goal of renounce to ourselves, the world and finally hold Christ’s hand and let go of control. Certainly those who come from sin and are humbled by struggle and shame, are put there for a reason. Every ache was worth it.

One night I dreamed a dream. As I was walking along the beach with my Lord. Across the dark sky flashed scenes from my life. For each scene, I noticed two sets of footprints in the sand, One belonging to me and one to my Lord. After the last scene of my life flashed before me, I looked back at the footprints in the sand. I noticed that at many times along the path of my life, especially at the very lowest and saddest times, there was only one set of footprints. This really troubled me, so I asked the Lord about it. "Lord, you said once I decided to follow you, You'd walk with me all the way. But I noticed that during the saddest and most troublesome times of my life, there was only one set of footprints. I don't understand why, when I needed You the most, You would leave me." He whispered, "My precious child, I love you and will never leave you Never, ever, during your trials and testings. When you saw only one set of footprints, It was then that I carried you."

Does anyone else get the sense that Jordan LONGS to speak with people who are as intelligent and deep as he is, and when he finds one, he just downloads, and the poor person is waiting for his turn to speak for a good half hour, waiting for Jordan to take a breath so the other person can get their impressions out? I feel like this was one of these times. Jordan is so brilliant, and has thought so deeply about so many things, and it feels to me that he finds brilliance in Russell, but Russell really didn't seem to start getting a second to say where he stands on things till about 25 minutes in. At minute 40 Russell actually says, 'let me keep talking.' I'm glad Russell is strong enough to be able to hold his own. This was a fascinating conversation of two people with slightly difference backgrounds on faith, but able to come together with some really sweet perspectives on the higher purposes of life.

But it is wrong, the opposite of faith is fear. Faith (at least in the biblical narrative) has its roots in trust. You trust that which you are certain of. Remember those trust exercises which ask you to have faith in the person who is tasked with catching you. If I say "have certainty in the fact that you will be caught", that is faith. If I encourage you to have the opposite, "have no certainty in the fact that you will be caught" you will have zero faith in them. I.e. the opposite of certainty is no faith, and to have no faith is to fear being dropped.

So many Bible stories that prophesied future Bible stories. I remember, as a child, wondering what it must be like to realize you are part of a prophecy unfolding. Like, how did Cyrus the Great feel, how did Harod feel, how did Pilot feel? I then became an atheist for 25 years, and through the unfolding of end times prophecy in the world I live in, and reading the Bible, came to accept Christ, the Son of God, as my Savior. I now realize we are all a part of the stories told in the Bible, it is the story of all humanity from the perspective of our Creator. I trust in Him implicitly. Praise God for Russel and Dr Peterson doing the Lords work so brilliantly. I pray they continue to trust His plan for their lives. Both are beautiful examples of Christ love and grace.

1:07:00 This exchange was legendary JP asks Russell the Abrahamic question of which Christs story is the inverse: What is it that you’re doing with your words when you’re doing what you should be doing and what’s been the consequence for you and your reputation, your dynasty, and everyone else? Do you use your words properly? If you do why? When you do what happens? How do you know when you deviate from that? What do you think your responsibility is in that regard? And Russell quotes ‭‭I Chronicles‬ ‭4‬:‭10‬ ‭NKJV‬‬, “And Jabez called on the God of Israel saying, “Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain!” So God granted him what he requested.“

“The religion that I am interested in is not the precursor and a parallel to psychotherapy, it is a precursor to quantum physics, helping me to understand what do you mean when you say self? Who is this self? What do you mean when you say reality? When you say reality, what are you talking about?” This is how I discovered Orthodox Christianity this year. Totally changed my life. I’m a major science buff, specifically archaeology and astrophysics, and I’m now looking at all the things that are coming out through the lens of understanding the truth behind the material universe. I’m no longer hearing information that explains God AWAY, I’m listening to how God DID this at all. I am understanding the tools by which God managed to devise an entire physical reality that is literally designed to interact with conscious observers. Something came out very recently about how they think that quantum particles are collapsed into material reality because of the presence of black holes and they were saying that this shuts down the idea that the universe is specifically designed for direct interaction with conscious observers. But my question is how? How so? Conscious beings which are designed to be risen up from chaotic unconsciousness must have a substrate upon which to form, no? I think that when we find things like that, we are finding the mechanisms behind which God has constructed certain features of a universe made for the purpose of proliferation of the divine nature. Keep rockin and rollin, guys!!! Love it!

LLM's are advanced scripting tools they are not intelligent. You can break them or outsmart them fairly easily, and they will often proclaim with unerring confidence things which are totally wrong. Many years ago I suspected Jordan Peterson was basically a Buddhist, Spiritually connected so to speak. Russell was clearly on the Buddhist/Spiritual path. I would encourage those that are Atheist/Agonistic to explore Buddhism but with an open mind. Explore, learn and be thoughtful, honest in your journey. If you follow things to their logical conclusions ? You will find Christ. As both Jordan and Russell have done.

His Rumble channel needs to delete about three months of anti God content now lol but cannot complain, if he is truly turning to Christ then it's a great move by him and he will have my support. I must say though, I am a tiny but suspicious after the rough-ride he has been giving Christians over the months (since last October).

I gave this conversation another try and I’m glad I did. I don’t care for RB but I love seeing him make Dr. Peterson smile and laugh. That made me so joyful. And I love the companionship and fraternal love between them. I could not seem to find a members sessions on the DW? When Russell was talking about the CofE being reluctant to name God I thought of the church at Laodicea, in which our Lord was pictured as being on the outside, knocking and asking admittance. It’s a solemn thing. Please be okay, Dr. Peterson, you are so cherished.

Wow! A roller coaster of jam-packed intellectual adjectives, presented by 2 soul mates. Both have visited, lived, and survived, the highs and lows of life's journeys thus far, and returned home to the source, that gives us the gift of eternal life. A pleasure to hear their discourse.

You look and sound as though you are not feeling well, dearest Dr. Peterson. The last few videos I have been watching your face closely and thought you looked ill and exhausted. I was worried for you. So praying that whatever is troubling you is a passing thing. And I never comment on what you’re wearing because good health looks better on you than anything but the jacket you have got on is my favorite of all your jackets. It is so, so, so beautiful. Beauty, you see, has always been the Transcendental I felt closest to. It has always been my Jacob’s ladder. I know you get a lot of criticism for wearing sacred imagery on your jackets but I love what you are doing. I have been obsessed with the concept of Christ figures in literature and media for some time. I have woven several Christ images into my own novels. And I connect that in my thoughts with what you are doing, bringing Christian imagery into the consciousness of those who might not otherwise see it, and thereby leaving a trail of breadcrumbs for them to follow, from the imagery to the glorious reality. NO idea if that connection made any semblance of sense. With Ruth Anne’s love

I am so excited about what I see and hear the Holy Spirit doing! I am a Bible College teacher that's been in ministry for over 50 years. I've kept each Jordan Peterson and Russell Brand as those I daily cover in prayer. If I could, I would "covet" a short conversation with each of them to offer some points for their consideration regarding Biblical Values.

So seldom have I found such brilliant minds going in the best direction possible. It has been my experience, that the more brilliant the mind, usually has a direct correlation to the degree of atheistic or agnostic belief.

I really like intelligent and truthful conversations like this, for it does not only help the speakers realize somethings but also help the listeners. Unlike the one with Sam Harris that was awful, he is so lacking. When two speakers have enough knowledge is where the discussions become fruitful for both the speakers and listeners. Well done RB and Dr JBP!

After all the years you two have been talking together, dearest Dr. Peterson, and the many changes that have happened in both your lives, I think it is about time you invited him on the podcast and I’m delighted you did. Russell Brand is not my cup of tea but I love to see the friendship between you. As for his conversion, well, we shall see. I’ve been a follower of Christ for 35 years and I’ve seen plenty of people who say all the right things, go through all the right motions, attend all the right churches, apostatize in disastrous ways and take people with them. So I rejoice very cautiously, and I’m also very well aware that many people may profess Christianity to gain social or political status for themselves and at the first sign of trouble, would apostatize. So we shall see what we shall see. The foundation of God stands sure, having this seal, The Lord knows them that are His. And, Let everyone that names the name of Christ depart from iniquity. Second Timothy Three. Dearest Dr. Peterson, I’m so glad you aren’t one of those who say all the right things and live like the devil. Konstantin was saying on Rogan the other day that he’s never met anyone whose person and life so closely aligns with his message. I sensed that in you from the beginning and I love you for it. I am so glad to know you as a fellow melancholy pilgrim. With Ruth Anne’s love

You are correct with your emotional human worries. What you underestimate is our Almighty God! He, with the help of the Holy Spirit just might have something else in store for Russel. Perhaps I’ve used too many big words. To “apostatize” means to give up known or professed truth, or to give up the profession of Christianity.” I hope that helps- I remember being confused by that word many years ago.

@afringedgentian5426 I am not sure who your comment was directed to about using "big words." I guess it really doesn't matter. What matters is that you believe yourself to be in a superior state of intelligence. I read the comments and didn't see where anyone was questioning your "big words." It was rude to say to someone even if they didn't understand you. May I remind you that pride comes before the fall!
