Sure you don't HAVE to, but it WILL help, especially with cats later in life needing professional cleanings due to tartar buildup. I worked at a veterinary clinic for four years, and there's definitely nothing wrong with brushing if they'll let you.

I didn't know this until 3 years ago when I moved back to the Northwest from New Mexico, but there are CBD treats for cats that apparently do give them a little buzz, and do calm them down in stressful situations, like sitting in front seat of moving truck for 3 days. Worked for my critter. Did Winston have some CBD treats for his Spa Treatment? Inquiring minds want to know.

If you see what the family did here (probably) was not train the cat traditionally but instead to use the cat's personality and behaviour to reinforce what is good behavior. It is probably as much positive reinforcement as anything. Cat's natural curiosity can lead to tooth brushing. But not human-style. More like the cat is chewing on the brush than the brush scrubbing. But it gets the job done. It is these win-win strategies that make for a happy household.

He was introduced to the warm water and attention towards grooming at a very early age, and being pampered throughout and afterwards is why he not only tolerates but purrs in contentment. Still it's unusual for many cats to actually exhibit enjoyment, with the sound of spraying water often triggering an instinct to flee. My own Turkish Van hated getting wet. Winston's definitely special!

I’m quite jealous about how chill this beautiful cat is. Giving our white cat a bath almost resulted in the cops being called, because a neighbor in the adjoining apartment building thought someone was being cruel to an infant. The noises that came from him - extra-loud, as he was deaf - really did sound awful. Yes, he thoroughly enjoyed it. The secret is start them at a very young age... I wish I had start my kitty when she was a kitten. She only likes to be brushed. I bathed her once and she was mad at me for at least a week.

Cats are the cleanest animals. They literally keep themselves clean. Sometimes my two boy cats help each other get clean. It’s very sweet. Shampooing a cat dries out their fur. The nail clipping is important and I’m sure their teeth need to be cleaned, but the bathing is unnecessary and can be harmful.

Frequent bathing is unnecessary, but once a year or so is fine. It also depends on the cats age, health, and fur type. Some cats can't groom themselves properly so you do need to help them. Bathing also helps when you need to brush them to clean out the undercoat on especially longhaired cats.
