To anyone who still watching this. I had a friend who use to be a Police Officer. He had to quit because of the corruption. Even if ticket quotas were made illegal, the station would still give their police officers these "goals" to complete. One of these "goals" was to give out a certain amount of tickets. Doesn't matter if they were in the right or wrong, as long a ticket was given, it counts. Even if it gets appealed, it still counts. That is why most Police Officers will not show for a court appeal. One, they will not be paid for it. Two, even if it is appealed, they still have that count. They need to meet their "goal" or they could / would be fired. My friend refused to be this corrupt and walked out on his job. He's now a school teacher.

I personally feel every police officer should be accounted for in some sort of way where they all receive the proper punishment or even improvement. Police officers are public servants as far as the U.S. goes. They work for us and our tax dollars go towards their work. The fact that police violence has been increasingly common within the workforce, is unacceptable. Personally i feel we should train them better and make sure every officer receives the proper training rather than "just a few bad apples". i hope you understand what i'm getting at here.

I absolutely don't trust police. As a former fraud investigator I met far to many police who were strait criminals who got badges to hide behind. They lie, cheat, steal, speed, break laws right and left and let each other pass freely. The hiring strategy for police attracts tough guy criminal minded people who want power over others. I have had so many bad experiences with police I could write a book at this point. The few good ones are usually squeezed out by the bad ones. Today gangs, militias, and white supremist groups have overcome our police departments across the nation. We literally need to wipe the system clean and start over. The protect and serve may as well be removed from the badges, cars, and oath. If you call a cop for help nowadays you will just become the focus of what they can ticket you with.

I work for the Marriott and i am sure there are plenty of guest who check in and really does not like African Americans, i cannot refuse to do my job because some one does not like me, and neither can you. @Laki Lucky V Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, mine just so happens to come from an actual experience. The police are corrupt, not all of them but the laws which govern them are there to protect them in wrong doings. If i a chef poison someone and kill them through negligence, i am held accountable. If you are a cop and shoot someone for not listening taking that persons life you hide behind the badge. Look at the recent incidents in the USA, that gentlemen shot 7 times in the back in front of his children. Now YES he should have heeded the cops words and stopped, but taking his life for that NEVER in a million years will i be convinced they are doing the right thing. I think civilians should try not to use force. They should not riot and they should not try and kill people, rob people, vandalize private property etc. In areas where police are targeted the law enforcement stops functioning and we have seen a rise in murder rates in cities like Baltimore, Chicago and Ferguson post-protest. Considering how police are always in a reactive mode, citizens should take proactive steps to stop the violence and crime in their communities. Mike Brown for instance shouldn't have robbed the store, if he didn't act violently and criminally that situation he put himself and the community into would have never happened.

For me at least in the United States (I can't say for any other nation) the media tends to show the worst side of humans, most media will broadcast things such as "White police officer kills unarmed African American" yet they don't tend to show the good that most police officers do. Many police officers are wonderful people that'll put themselves in harm's way for us, such as in 9/11 where they rushed in the towers along side firefighters to get people to safety, many of them knowing that they won't come back. Don't get me wrong there are always going to be the bad apples which in police officers cases are the racists, corrupt and power hungry. I would like to think well of them & many times I do. However, there's been too many times when I've reported serious issues of violence resulting in no aid. They show up alright, listen to your story; then drastically minimize the damage the abuser caused. (I'm talking serious issues of child kidnapping & gross sexual abuse, plus property damages). They temporarily poke around a bit & ask just enough questions so they can right up a report. That's when the bad part happens; - they just drop the ball, walk away, & the perpetrator walks away. The victim is hung out to dry. That is not justice. I understand they have a tough job; but it's really hard to respect a group that let's you be stabbed in the back. If I had to save one, I'd probably help & just reserve my judgment in case he/she maybe is a good cop. Reserved judgment the other way too, 'cause I've heard too many lies from cops too. Yet they still use devious means to get info; then; can & will use anything against you in court. Court is suppose to be just too; but some judges are just as flawed as a lot of other people. One forced me to sign a court record for going through a red light; when he had just got done acknowledging to me that is was a yellow light as testimony was recorded! This was all also after he jerked me around several hearings previously. Court dates given, then refused to hear the case based on some really lame excuses. Ironically, several months later he & his son got caught using cocaine. Only some poetic justice there. They just can't expect us to be all righteous, when they themselves aren't stainless. @franciscofranco51339 жыл бұрын
I think you're going to have a hard time finding a good police officer. There's probably only a few out there who disobey illegal orders, such as drug arrests, seatbelt tickets, and other victimless crimes. Most police officers will also ask questions without reasonable suspicion that a crime has been committed. Harassment of non violent protesters and people who open carry is also commonplace. I don't think a cop would last very long if he didn't do all these things, as his department wouldn't make enough revenue, as well as for the reason that cops like to bully and show authority (that they don't really have). A good cop would also reject using military surplus gear, weapons and vehicles, as he should know that it is a danger to the freedom of his fellow citizens. Now; a police officer has the same right to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness, and can therefore defend his life with a gun, just like any other individual.
@amitsalam14 жыл бұрын
One's opinion about the Police is based on their experiences and the (accounts of the) experiences of people around them who have had encounters with the police. I am personally indifferent. I don't think they are a force for good nor evil. They are useful at times and and completely ineffective at others. In the US, the love affair within some subsets of US society with Police is due to the history of the country going back to the myths of the Old West. The Police would be the ones w/the White Hats in the Old West and the bad guys are the ones w/the Black Hats. In reality, the police are more the folks w/the Gray Hats. They are people charged w/a lot of responsibility that they are probably not given adequate preparation/training for and are overwhelmed by what they encounter in the real world. Many may have started off with good intentions but often times good intentions are the path way to hell especially when you throw in power (the badge) and their ability to deal death (the gun). A badge and a gun will go to someone's head every time no matter color, sex, creed etc. It's just a natural phenomena and there's only a very small percentage of the population of humanity who can withstand that pull and treat everyone fairly.

In the United States, you cannot become a police officer if you have a high IQ. Could be that a more suitable job is preferred for a highly intellectual individual. But, I think it's deliberately done to refrain from hiring and training critical thinkers who would question standard procedure. Obedient workers is what the government wants and what they'll get.

I trust any "group" that polices their own; where the good of the group purges the corrupt ones, instead of having their back even if they break laws. That even goes for reporters and the media for whom they work.. The good of any group has the most to lose in terms of job, money, reputation,etc. They keep what they've earned by keeping their mouths shut. Hope the money they've managed to hang onto lasts. They will need it to buy sleeping pills to help them sleep.

I'm American and I've lived in big cities most of my life. I've never had a bad encounter with police- including when I've been pulled over, or when I've called them. I think cops get a ton of undeserved hate, just because of a few bad apples. If it's not fair for racists to assume that all black people are criminals, it's just as wrong for haters to assume that all cops are evil, and treat them as such. I believe that most cops are good guys and I'm happy they're here- to keep order and protect us from harm. If we didn't have the police, our society would devolve into anarchy, violence, and chaos.

The differences in how the white Americans in this video felt about the police in comparison to everybody else is pretty staggering. The relationship with police in a gentrified, white neighborhood in Chicago is surely different than the relationship in East Oakland or in poor areas of Mexico City. Most middle-upper class white people don't realize the privilege they have in the eyes of the police and all figures of power
@NDnf849 жыл бұрын
jackpotsb3 oh enough with the privilege. it is not a PRIVILEGE to not be abused by the cops.
@jonnylivesinbr9 жыл бұрын
jackpotsb3 its obvious that the police will respond differently in certain areas, due to the simple fact that some parts of the city are much more life threatening to the police officer. And unfortunately for black people, a lot of them live in those areas and are also more likely to commit a crime, it's simple statistics.
@delirium13269 жыл бұрын
jackpotsb3 You mean cops react differently to the crime ridden shithole or utopia they work in? If you asked Asian Americans or people living in Japan or Korea their opinion about cops it would probably be pretty positive too since there's little crime. "Privilege" there's that buzzword again. I trust the police because I know that I have the potential to de-escalate a situation. Its one thing to know your rights, its another to get arrogant and angry causing a situation to escalate. I've spent some times in the back of a cop car, and released shortly after as I wasn't who they were looking for. The problem in our society is we have progressive laws. This needs to be addressed as the grey area laws often infringe on peoples rights. The police are a non-issue for me, lets go after the root of the problem.

I'll just leave this here: The whole Good Cop / Bad Cop question can be disposed of much more decisively. We need not enumerate what proportion of cops appears to be good or listen to someone's anecdote about his uncle Charlie, an allegedly good cop. We need only consider the following: A cop's job is to enforce the laws, all of them; Many of the laws are manifestly unjust, and some are even cruel and wicked; Therefore every cop has to agree to act as an enforcer for laws that are manifestly unjust or even cruel and wicked. There are no good cops. - Robert Higgs

My brother-in-law is a police officer. I have never seen anyone more disgusting, oppressive, dishonorable, savage, shameless and ruthless than him. The only difference between him and a criminal is that in a criminal person, you can expect a little honor and humanity, but there is no trace of humanity in him, and the other difference is that the criminal does not violate by abusing the law, but he commits exactly any violation you can imagine by abusing the law.

Quick and easy observation as a police dispatcher observing traffic stops called in by my officers, if you're black don't be riding dirty. All it takes is seeing the expired registration to give probable cause to pull you over, then shit usually goes downhill from there, with no insurance, driving with either no driver's license, or it's suspended. This isn't stuff you get to chose whether you want to obey it or not; it's required by law, and if you're riding dirty, then you suffer the consequences.

I live in sweden and i trust and Respect the police in sweden. I live in a small town in sweden (60.000) and have never really had many encounters with the police "in action". But i know several police officers (have relatives that are in the police force) and play hockey with several policemen on the weekends. In sweden the police is generaly respected and well thought off and 99% of the population is not afraid of calling / contacting them. They are well trained and always try to resolve situation without violence. Its very rare in sweden that police have to use there weapons or even use violence. But ofc the view of the police is different depending on ur perspective. As stated i live in a smaller town in the northern half of the nation and its a very calm area where every1 has good experiences with cops. While in the Major cities in the south of sweden there is more of a trouble spot with more crime/unrest at times and there the views of the police (amongst certain groups of the population) differs. But in general in sweden the Police force is well respected and not feared no1 is scared when they see police come walking down the street or a cop car comming down the street. the only problem in some parts of sweden is that the police is scatterd leading to long response times if u live longer from a town.
