Poppa-D, thanks for this video. I've been looking for something like this. I may be one of the few who actually like the navigation system in the new HD environment. And trying to master Waze, Apple Maps and Google, for me, takes all the fun out of planning a trip. I prefer something simple and native to the system I'm using. Excellent video and explanation of Ride Planner and the GTS Infotainment System to navigate with.

Thanks for this detailed video of the ride planner. When traveling I usually take an atlas. Sometimes I get some funny looks when I pull out the atlas on a fuel stop or in a restaurant

I always have a old fashioned map book with me. I keep one of the HOG map books in my travel bag. Technology will fail and having a good backup is essential. Thanks for watching and commenting.

Great video! I design them on Ride Planner all the time. The GT & GTS Boom Navs do work if you learn how to use them. No, they are not Google Maps, but it works for me fine. I also zoom in & place the waypoints in the lane I'm traveling.

That's great info. My RG has the old system, but it still seems like an good way to plan the route

Awesome! Thanks for this info!! Had our Road Glide Limited for almost 3 years and couldn't figure out how to get the route info (miles to next turn, fuel used, ect) to display. Now I know I need to use Harley Ride planner. Plus Ride Planner seemed difficult to use, but your method makes it look easy. Thanks again and you have a new subscriber.

I love using the ride planner now. I wish the infotainment system displayed all the information without having to use the navigation. Thanks for the comment and subscribing.

I’m sure you know, but for those that don’t, you can select avoidances, such as unpaved or highways, on the ride planner. BUT, the settings have to be the same on your gps or it will recalculate when you transfer it to the bike from what you created. Another important reason to make sure the waypoint is where you need it is split highways. If the waypoint is on the other side of the street, the gps will make you do uturns til you get thru that waypoint to “hit” it. You can also adjust the route (or even create one) in the app. It’s not as user friendly, but can be done. I didn’t know about the trip summary - no one seemed to know when I asked. Great info! I also plan on Google maps to find gas stops and kitschy places to stop at - small town museums, historical places, odd ball statues, etc, before using ride planner. Love watching your videos!

Just found this video. Ride Planner is a good starting point. It’s not perfect by any means. I usually build my route in Ride Planner, then load that GPX file into Google Maps. That way I can get the construction updates and whatnot. Ride Planner on my GTS radio has maps that were last updated in 2016. I’m not spending the $250 for the update, which is still not current by the way. I try to avoid unsaved roads, and the maps are not up to date. It also no longer offers the other Route Options it used to on the Boom GT 6.5 radios. You used to be able to set scenic and twisty routes in the Ride Planner.

Awesome. I hope this helps. Not sure what year motorcycle you have, just know this does not work well with the new Skyline system. You can still use the ride planner, but function on the bike is different. Not on a good way. I'm having to use an app called Scenic to get the functionality needed for trips. Enjoy Sturgis. I know the area fairly well. If i can help, let me know.

I like the system. I get frustrated because the route will not reroute if you decide to go off course.

Hey Man, good show! Question: I made a map following your instructions but how do I send it to my 2022 street glide? Thanks

Open the HD app on your phone. Once your HD.con account links to the app, you should be able to see your rides. The select the ride created, scroll down, there's a click box to "Send to Bike".

I see. I created the ride in the app on my laptop and after I save it, my phone app has it saved too. Got it. Thanks again!@@PoppaDRides

Correct. Easier to make changes on the computer, the use the phone app to send to the bike. You can also use the app as the GPS router, but I don't like to do it that way. However, if you have a second bike without on board GPS Navigation, that would come in handy.
