I just use the tire plug kits. They say it's only for temporary repairs but in my experience they've always outlived the tires, even when I run them down to the white stripes underneath the tread.

That's exactly right. Most shops will not repair a tire that's has goop in it. It's the same thing with that A/C recharge kit. Tire sealant is only a temporary fix and generally most sealants make it impossible for the tire to actually be patched in the future resulting in the owner paying for an entire new tire. And if your car is awd, congratulations you may have to replace all 4 tires because of uneven tread depth because it can damage awd cars if tire thickness is not very similar in all 4 tires

As a CDL holder/driver, it would just be nice if the average car owner was required to know how to do a basic pre-trip & post-trip inspection. It's habit for me anymore. I was off on home time awhile back. Standing out on the front deck having a smoke, watching some deer out in the yard. My mom a stepdad come out, hop in their car, and get ready to leave out for the store. I yelled at em, did you notice?! They replied, yeah there's deer out there. I said, no you've got a flat tire! 😅 There were more problems than that, but I fixed them without them noticing. My mom did notice the inside of the car was mysteriously clean though, and my stepdad noticed the flat tire was almost bald. I only had to air it down to 5 psi, make my mom paranoid, and they'd get it fixed. In the words of Courage the cowardly dog, "the things I do for love!" 🫡 PS: Since the last time I was home they've gotten a dog, a German shepherd. I've got a lot more cleaning to do next time I'm home...

Nobody gonna say that he literally just plugged a tire with a plug kit? I had a puncture in an ATV tire so I used Slime to repair it in a pinch. It held air overnight so I thought I was good to go. Five minutes of riding the next day and the tire was completely flat. Slime and other products like it do work well for sealing beads on lawnmowers, wheelbarrow tires and other low speed tire leaks. They will NOT repair a puncture type damage (nor does the manufacturer claim to).

In 1971, at a full-service gas station, a salesman came in with "Ribbets". He had these rubber screws, with a hole in the center that got put on a device that stretched it out so skinny, pushed it into the hole in the tire. Release the tension, pull the tool out and it went fat again, locking it in place. The rep drove up with them placed side by side around the entire sidewall of his left front. We never had one fail.

Yeah, maybe as a last resort, but if you don't HAVE to use this stuff, DON'T. Dudes we had changing tires HATED it when people would drive in with tires full of fix-a-flat (what was available at the time), especially if they weren't told and pulled the valve core on the tire to air it down. That crud would make a mess everywhere. That and with so many vehicles having TPM modules standard, I wouldn't want to gum those up with this stuff.

Tire sealant is more dangerous than helpful, it throws your tire out of balance, some of them literally create an air time bomb your tire will be dismantled and there's been occasions where the tire pops off the rim due to the sealant, not recommendable if you ain't going straight to change that tire.
