Wow this is so crazy. I’m picking up my Doberman in a couple of weeks and your last 2 videos have literally covered my last few concerns as the day gets closer. I live in a 1 bed 1 bath apartment and always wanted to see the experience of owning a Doberman from someone in my situation, which your last video covered perfectly with that couple from NY. This week I’m going on a puppy haul to make sure I have everything in place for his arrival, and was a bit worried that I didn’t miss anything and you covered that again in this video. If I ever needed a sign that this was the perfect time to get a Doberman, this was it!!

@@giovannarodriguesds7053 Hi Giovanna. I’d be glad to let you guys know how my experience has been so far. My Doberman (Jericho) is loving the apartment life! He was raised on a farm by really good breeders so moving to an apartment in the city definitely took some getting used to, especially getting on and off the elevator I had to carry him for a week or so. But they’re so smart and adjust quickly. Inside the actual apartment he loved to wander off and kind of just explore and being in a 1 bed 1 bath it wasn’t that hard to keep an eye on him. I will say be ready to have NO privacy lol I could not use the bathroom without him creeping in. You’ve probably already heard this from a lot of other owners. What also really helped me is that my neighbors also have a Doberman and theirs is a full grown female and they really helped me out a lot with advice and dog sitting/bonding etc. anyway I could write a whole book about my experience. The first 2 weeks to a month are difficult and if you can take time off work that would be ideal. I was able to take 2 weeks off work and am very thankful I did. Despite this I would not trade it for the world! After they get to like 6 months they really mellow out and become more predictable. I hope you guys have a great experience and you have made a great choice! Welcome to the Doberman family!

Good stuff John! I found out recently that I should be getting my puppy earlier than I thought … maybe by mid-December. Also I wanted to share that I went to visit my breeder about 5 weeks after the last group of pups were born. I was thinking the visit was going to focus on the pups (they WERE incredibly cute - all 14 of them!), but it turned out to be an in-depth meeting with the parents. What I learned was the type of disposition mom and dad had. And, they were exactly the kind of Doberman I want. The mom was sweet and loving. She immediately jumped up on the couch with me and put her head in my lap. And the dad just wanted to play. They were so awesome! I can’t wait to have one of their pups!

So if it is urinated on, you can clean everything instead of urine going into the pillow, that may be difficult to impossible to clean properly. . Ex K-9 military. Raised 2 other Dobermans. Just got a 5 month old, female American. I can’t believe how crazy she is. So much destruction Caught her pulling down tree, no more toilet paper, you know, standard. Smart enough to make it look like she can’t go into the garden. Caught her easily clearing the garden fence and enjoying strawberries. -. The Doberman does love mind candy. When the weather is bad or other such things we play games or I make puzzles for her to solve. I think an activity that demands thought brings the dog almost as much satisfaction as a physically demanding play. Tricks that require fine motor skills like balancing balls on the nose and head. I hadn't thought to have her hold a great in her mouth though. Do you see praise seeking when your Dobe meets a real challenge? Truely a distinguished canine breed.

I love your videos, watch every week. I do disagree about the Purina. The 3rd ingredient is corn gluten meal, their grain is corn, and it contains poultry by-products. The problem with grain free diets isn't that they are grain free. The problem is that they contain legumes. Legumes keep dogs/cats from absorbing taurine. Taurine is very important for their hearts. A great brand of dog food is Only Natural Pet. They have recipes that are legume free, with ancient grains. You can find it at Petsmart, in store and on their website. Just wanted to find out if you were aware of these things. I have a dark blue female, and we both love Arlo 💘. You have the best Doberman videos. Thank you for all your information.

Hi John can you do a video on your experience with the posting of Arlo's ears. I think that a lot of people would benefit from it
@DobermanPlanet3 жыл бұрын
Hey, Georgia! The method used on Arlo is commonly referred to as the "zip-tie method" of ear posting since it relies on heavy plastic zip ties in the ear canal acting as the posts (along with some medical surgical glue called Torbot) to keep the ears stretched and sticking up. Although we've not made a video on this method (yet), you can Google "zip tie method of ear posting" or something similar and you'll probably see everything you need to know! Hopefully this helps!

GET A SHOP VAC! Seriously, and not a cheap one. Get a med/small powerful one, with wheels at Lowes or Home Depot. Owning a good shop vac is a game changer. Find a puddle of runny puppy poo? No worries, the shop vac literally lifts it up off the carpet instead of pressing it into the carpet fibers. It's also huge for pee... you'll be surprised how powerful a contractor-grade shop vac is. It can pull the pee out of the carpet, and also the sponge-pad underneath the carpet. This is huge, because the carpet pad is literally a sponge. You can dump a cup of hot soapy water on the spot, then suck it all out with the shop vac. Do this once or twice and it's like new again. Then take the shop vac to your backyard and hose it out. Done.

On your website, you make this statement: "Dobies hate water, so this just may work wonders for you." LOL, my Dobies all LOVE WATER and in fact when sprinklers come on, they run through them, bite at the water and have a jolly good time. They also like to swim, go boating with me and other water activities. I think it has to do with how you start them off as pups, whether or not they will love or hate water.

Arlo's ears could have probably stopped being posted at 4 months of age, but we went until 6 months old since that's usually the minimum amount of time you'd want to do regardless. Some dogs take up to 8 months or one year in some circumstances to fully stand. Hope this helps!

Another great video, thanks so much. 👍🏼❤️ Would you be able to do one on how a new owner should interact with a puppy on the very first day, if at all possible please? It would be very helpful. Do you leave them be or try to play with them a bit? Also, how long did take you to bond with Cooper and Arlo? Am a first time dog owner so I have a lot of learning to do. Arlo is adorable. Lovely temperament and such a cute face too. ❤️

That's a great suggestion, Becky! We do already have this video about the first night home with your Doberman and what you can expect: kzbin.info/www/bejne/e2PJamx6htWkh6c. This will probably help ease your mind a lot! We also have a video on the first week home with your new puppy here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nabVpKmvn9xlfs0. Rest assured, you'll feel closer and closer with your pup with each passing day!

Can you do a video on how to post doberman ears. Arlo’s ears turn out great thanks
@DobermanPlanet3 жыл бұрын
Hey, Gabriel! Thanks so much!

What should I look for in a dobe breeder

For the cage partition, can you explain where you bought the material (the thin rubber mat material) for it? I have exact same cage but want to block off sight and make it den like for my Dobie. He is coming in a few weeks.

Any way you can make a video on training a 1 year old Doberman to maintain good dobermanners in the car? She loves car rides but she runs to the drivers seat and just all over the car. Its really hard when im with my whole family in the car and a 40 kg dog just comes and sits on my lap. And what about in hour long car rides?

Any chance for a video on a month to month training plan from 8 weeks onwards? Ie what age is appropriate for which type of training as their brain develops and they have a better understanding to progress through training. Thank you for your dedication to this breed.

I use the same cage for my bunny… going to get a dobie pup today.. i dont cage my bun as well, he has his own room but he loves his cage when he s scared or resting. I cant use it for my pup… 😭 ahh ill have to figure out something. I have a lot of cardboard boxes though. He might chew the shit out of them, but i can buy some blankies nd make a little den for him. 💕
