A few weeks ago, we actual had someone break in to our house. My wife was on the couch with our Doberman when the dude came in the back door. One bark from our dobie and he turned tail and ran! It was a scary situation but everyone was safe!

They can live longer, with the right diet. I have one Doberman 12 months on raw, another 18 year old Chilean Terrior that suffered a littermate loss two years ago and almost died, I started feeding him raw and he's still alive. Kibble only diet can become a factor in dogs lives

Don't wait..I lost my doberman and the only reason I have not gotten another dobby is because of my age. (I wish I could be sure that a doggie would be ok if something happened to me.) They are "THE BEST"!

As you get older, it might be reasonable to prepare the dog - by having someone trustworthy, taking your Dobermann to a dog park, maybe long walks or trusting them to take the dog to the vet? Acclimating the dog to a trusted person could be a way to insure the dog will have a home or at least someone who can be with them until a foster or permanent home can be found. It can be hard on Dobermanns to have to a move to a new house, adjust to new people ....as well as changing schedules. Might be good to enroll it in a training class too? .... brush up on obedience? Its much easier to find a home for a well trained dog. Not to mention training can provide a distraction for a lonely dog. I worry, myself. Being a healthy, active 'Singlton' - that a medical issue or illness - might make it difficult for news to reach family... or someone to just drop by....just in case? "I've Fallen and can't get up"... just to be sure the dog is rescued, fed...etc... you never know when the unexpected may happen. Not just "anyone" can walk into the house....ya know!

Same.... I have a shower guard, potty guard, he’s spoiled and sleeps with me, he’s virtually always right there under my feet... I can’t even get up to grab a drink of water without him hopping right up with me. I’ve never seen anything like it in a dog. It’s hilarious. 😂

I truly have seen Mean little dogs! AndI would want my Dobie to have his or her ears cropped! My Mini Min Pin’s tail was cropped totally off too short? But she is my Fur Baby whom now has Diabetes! I hate delivering 2 shots daily to her! It makes me so sad! She is a sweetheart! So I need to give her a Comfortable well As Healthy Life for her!

I agree, my dad passed and I have been depressed for months and that made me not walk my dobbie and I notice his change in his attitude and he gained weight. I feel so bad. I'm trying to walk him more but it's literally always 90° or more

as always a great episode mate. and yes, you're right, Dobermans are one of those breeds that people either adore or are terrified of lol. But they do get a lot of attention! I also often get asked the question (usually by young blokes lounging on the bonnets of hotted up V8's out the front of the 24 hour convenience store when I suddenly need ice cream at 1am lol) "Mate, I was thinking of getting one of these or a Rotty (Rotwielier) what do you reckon?" and my answer is, how much do you like walking? Would you prefer to own a tank or a jet fighter? Because these guys are most definitely the latter! All up on average I walk mine between 3-4 hours a day and often walk about a half marathon with him on weekends. Especially since COVID because everything here in Melbourne was closed for months and I didn't have anything better to do. As a result I'm actually astonishingly fit for a 52 year old man now, which ironically has happened purely out of a desire to exhaust my dog so I can get some peace and quiet lol

Separation anxiety can also have other consequences. My fil went into the hospital 7 months ago so my husband and I had to leave our dogs with my son. We ended up having to stay with my disabled mil after my fil passed away. At the time we were not able to have our dogs here yet. My Doby got so depressed without me that she stopped eating completely. She nearly died. We have her here now thank God.

Make sure you watch the videos that mention male / female personalities. FOR DECADES, I have had all females. “Mr. PINKEY” as I call the male part just FREAKS me out in ALL dogs. I think it was Grandma’s poodle lol that seemed to love me WAY too much. Zeb was neutered before his need for the boy behaviors started and I have NEVER had a problem. The boys are goof balls, less intense, yet very protective and I feel so much more affectionate . Zeb potty trained after only two pee pees in the house and a couple of poos. I did open that door at ALL HOURS of the night if he moved to prevent accidents. I do put all marble floors in the house on the first floor to keep what I call an elegant house and they have been perfect. My house never smelled and never looks damaged... plus they warm up at a certain temp. I AM SO EXCITED FOR YOU. Realize that all Dobermans will be more dog rolled up in one that you probably ever have had lol. Find a GREAT breeder and get to know them. Mine is in Missouri and I live in South Carolina now (and she is retiring after 50 years). She was THE BEST.

Right on John! Stigma is a big one. I had a woman not come out of the gas station store until we left. My Dobe only had his head out of the car window and she was terrified. Moses was not barking or anything. He was just enjoying the car ride. The woman yelled out the door...”CN your dog get out of the window?” Mind you, the window was only half open. I just rolled my eyes. With all of the “down sides” I wouldn’t have it any other way. My Dobe keeps me from being lazy too.

for those who have a dog (actually any dog breed) with a high need for exercise and you can't afford a 3 or 4 hour/day workout like the person you mentioned, i would suggest condensing the exercise to get roughly the same intensity over a shorter period of time. for example, buy one of those doggy backpacks and fill it with items that provide enough weight in it that a 20-60 minute walk (with the weighted backpack) would giver the equivalent to the current 3 or 4 hour/day walk. of course the amount of weight would vary with the size/capabilities of your particular dog and you may also need to gradually increase the weight over time so as not to over do it. as with anything new like this, common-sense and possibly a vet visit to gather the appropriate info for starting/increasing this kind of regimen is crucial for the well-being of your dog.

I’m a recent follower and have owned two Dobermans over the course of my lifetime and being retired and having more time thinking about getting another one for a good companion as I really do miss my other dogs but watching your current video when you open the door and you seen the catastrophe because of separation anxiety. Oh my goodness ! but anyway, everything that I’ve seen on your videos are almost 100% on spot plus my significant other at the time had a Chihuahua and she ruled the roost so to make a long story short I do appreciate your videos and I will continue to follow and probably will get me another Doe B in the not too distant future thank you much for all your info again and reinforcing all the things I’ve learned from my previous pooches good and some not so good!

Great info for someone considering getting a Doberman! I have had a red male from a puppy and now have a rescue female. I laughed at the burglar part bc i see my Maddie have the same look while she tries to figure out if the person belongs there or not. We go run and play at least once a day. Yoga time is priceless because she lays right smack dab in the middle of the matt like she is ready for class. I also laughed at him all over you when you put your shoes on. Mine does the same thing. I put a kong with kibble and capped with peanut butter down when i leave the house and it helps ease the separation anxiety. I truly miss her too when I am away.

It's become quite hysterical when I have my boy in public. I get a TON of compliments, but I also have people that will pick up their dogs, or even their kids when they see us. I'm trying to educate people and tell them how great the breed is, especially how much he loves kids, and playing with small dogs is more fun than playing with big dogs. Because big dogs are scary! LOL! I get so many people saying "I had no idea!", but there will always be those select few that will absolutely not look at us...ever. Which is fine. They aren't our people. ;)

There are zero downsides of owning a Doberman. ❤️ I’ve owned 3 but never had any issues. They definitely are velcro dogs and they are extremely protective but I don’t see that as bad. I guess maybe it’s because I baby them and always give them attention and run with them. My girl Onyx now will always drop herself on top of me to lay down lol.

Our family over 15 years had Dobermans.....no cross. Our 2 adult dogs purchased at 1 year old were so easy to train. Never had issues like you have discribed..I believe it was because we lived in the country ....hiking 4 wheeling chasing rabbits, gophers. Excercise was not an issue...boredom not an issue....outside most the time ....in house at night. The perfect family member.

Man when I was younger my mom got us a Doberman from an owner who was clearly abusive so basically we rescued it... best dog I’ve ever had. Fast forward to 2018 and my uncle had bred his two dobes and I was offered a puppy. Had no idea what I was getting myself into based on my previous Doberman... I was very surprised and now I’ve gotten very sick and she is just so hard to take care of and handle day to day :( I do it out of love but man... I wanted to take a minute and say I just came across your channel and I must say extremely informative and eye opening for me. I once had a Doberman had him for 12 years his hips were really starting to cause him a lot of pain. I haven’t had another dog since loosing Him mostly because of me being on the road for work however starting in January I’ll know longer be on the road and will be getting another because of how great they are and like you said so many misconceptions but the fact is the best, most loving and loyal breed I’ve ever owned. I am madly in love with my doberman and the entire breed. I'm glad you mentioned dcm, mine was just at the cardiologist and has the beginning symptoms of what will probably become dcm. As a vet tech at a doberman heavy practice I don't know many who don't have some issue with their heart. I've also had people cross the street to get away from her on a walk lol. They are the best dogs and I will certainly put more research into the hearts of the parents of my next one.

Breed perception - we kinda flew under the radar with Coco, she was a brown (rust) and tan so people weren't too sure. However, some people thought I must be some kind of thug or hooligan because I had a Dobermann with a docked tail. She was a rescue dog and came minus the tail. Those that took the time to get to know her were rewarded with the Dobermann kiss and found out why these awesome creatures are often referred to as 'lean machines' - and as we Dobermann fans know, that is nothing to do with their build or their weight, if they're comfortable with you, they will lean on you ! Basically, they tell you 'I've got your back my friend'. Best EVER breed. Top video again John, keep 'em coming !!

Well hi, i am not the U.S and Europe and i owned 7 dogs since i was 6, ranging from german shepherds, pitbulls, mallinois and a dober and i never neutered a dog. What I don’t get about western culture is that lots frown so much about cropping or docking a dog yet it’s socially acceptable to neuter dogs. Don’t people realize the contradiction ?

I own a Doberman/Shepherd from a full blooded German shepherd mom, and full blooded Doberman dad... He’s 6 months old and everything from his looks, to his temperament and personality, seem to be all Doberman... I really can’t see any German Shepherd traits coming through, besides maybe a double whammy “working dog” blend.... he needs tasks, constantly.

6.15 talking about breed perception. I was dog-sitting my friends doberman Poppy, she is an absolute dream/incredible dog. When out walking her, people would cross the street, and owners would put their body between the doberman and their dog and/or children. Each time a dog has barked at Poppy, it wasn't Poppy who Instigated it.

I have two, so it helps with anxiety. I have to get them out to a field for an hour daily to run. My male of three years suffered from DCM and was growing weak. He couldn't walk up three steps, and you could see the pain he was feeling, and was put down. So far, his sons, and daughter are fine.

Again, your video's are spot on. I'm currently on my second doberman, the first was all natural, she had ears and a tail, She was a rescue. my boy now was bought from a breeder. When I saw him for the first time the tail was already docked, I suggested I could take him with the ears not cropped the breeder told me "no dog leaves her kennel uncropped". Her being in her 60s and having bread dobermans for 40 years she was protecting the standards. The amount of haters you find in a dog park and on the street is unbelievable. How many people out there circumcise their children? Do people point them out in public? We have our dogs spayed and neutered which is far more invasive than having ears cropped. But the next time someone gives you heat about the cropping ask them if their child is circumcised, if they say yes call them a monster, lol gets some good responses 🤣

I am 63 years old and on my fourth Dobermann. I am sure that these dogs "saved" my life. A lot of fun exercise. All in all i think Dobermanns have made me a better human. There are two breeds of dogs in the world - Dobermann and all the others. If you want a real dog - get a Dobermann - you will never regret even if the first 2 years can be hard because of the energy level. After six months you will get used to it. Gettings from Denmark

Yes, all of these are super true to owning a dobie. Another thing I would add is less visitation from family. My family would always come in and check on us even during the pandemic they would check in every so often. But ever sense my father got a doberman for his birthday, I have seen a dramatic decrease on family visiting and it's mostly because his dog is very "mean looking" and it kind of upsets us to see out family scared of the dog. Oh well, you can't convince everyone. 🤔

our dobie was DEFINITELY my dads dog. he would get really upset if my dad got out of the car but not care if i or anybody else,got out. he slept on my dads bed and always had a paw touching my dad. and he LOVED jogging with my dad. and people definitely have that knee jerk reaction that they are “scary” dogs. we did have his ears done and decided we would never do it again. its a big commitment and we felt horrible taking the tape off. they arefantastic 80 lb lap dog lol

My mother in law had a Doberman. He wanted proper hands. He was quite annoyed that he couldn’t manipulate things the way a human can. She had to suddenly travel so I had testing time on who was the boss in the house. His favourite thing was the nose poke. If you didn’t react he could nearly knock you out of a chair for attention. He was over sized, he fear bit, he terrified the petite Asian girls going to the University near me however he loved a walk, a snack and would cuddle anytime of the day. I miss him he passed away 7 years ago.

Thats so right! My doby koko takes revenge by chewing or peeing(he knows thats not right) if i miss his walk or even when i am late for his walk!! Handling separation anxiety is tough, as he is very emotional...!very opposite of me! But a very good life companion!! Our 8-month old European male (not much choice in the matter, we live in Europe) is really spectacular. He‘s learned his manners on walks pretty quickly. He still gets excited and starts pulling when we get near the dog park or he sees one of his canine buddies on the paths. He‘s got a solid repertoire of commands though we need to keep working on his recall. Unfortunately he can open all our doors so no more solo toilet trips or showers and we have to keep the front door locked because he can open it as well. Overall he is a big 32kg goofy and very social dog! Its really different experience from our previous dog, a European Boxer. Our next big thing is teaching him to stay home by himself for a few hours.

Try walking with some treats, before he locks on to the other dog lure him with a treat. This will distract him and will help you pass the other dog. It works for my dobbie who is 9 months old.

My Doberman is 1/2 European and 1/2 American. I like his “more beefier” build. He is the most intelligent one I have ever had and they all have been brilliant. I like what the European Doberman brings to the table... if bred well like all dogs. They seem to be more “serious” and more “protective”. I am fortunate though. My breeder has bred 50 years and created a “temperament” into her dogs that I am quite fond of.

Our landlords had a list of breeds the insurance companies wouldn't allow us to have. The biggest no no was a pitbull. But doberman was on there. Since my dog isn't 100% dobey they let us get him. Also the property manager has to meet the dog to check its temperament. Mojo passed easily. He loves everyone and he's pretty calm around people. Everytime we walk past someone he has to sniff and say hi

Yes I have come home to the very same disaster you have. So we put her in an xpen and she just knocked it down and had the house to her self. She is not afraid of loud noises so xpen collapsed to a tile floor has no effect. And baby gates don’t stand a chance with her.

For a crowd who will frequently approach to pet your Dobie, I suggest a Bike week event! When we go to the one in Murrells Inlet SC (still called Myrtle Beach BW) we have TONS of people asking to pet the boys...between that and the regular craft fairs, most of our early socialization is done at the beach

Some insurance companies still consider a household with a Doberman risky. (I have two Dobies). I have Mercury Insurance on my home and auto. (Hope I can say that without violating rules. I am not an employee or affiliated with Murcury Ins. other than being a customer). Mercury has been good to work with. Just thought I'd throw that out there. Love the video! Good work.

Thanks John Nyx let's us know when anyone comes near our property. That's good and bad lol. I've lost count of the times people purposely avoid us outside. She is extremely confident and not much phases her so far. She was staring at the sky this morning trying to figure out how she could get to the thunder!! She definitely loves to work and has no problem maxing out her daily training sessions...we got one of the high energy versions. 2-3 hours of fast moving quells this beast. Cheers

Our Luna is 7 months old and she is honestly the friendliest dog at our dog park. She's the one that has been attacked by other dogs... huskies in particular. We definitely have gotten comments about Dobermans being aggressive and scary... and I'm just like... have you met a Doberman?

I love Dobermans. I had a male & female and a half acre back yard. When I had to go to work they were together on the closed in back porch and they would go out through the pet door and would exersize each other and they got along with one another really well. They lived their whole lives and of course there were no problems with break ins. Wonderful dogs.

I’ve owned a Doberman back in the 70’s We bought from a breeder and what you said is Nothing my Dobie or Me experienced. If I didn’t own a Dobie and just listened/watched your video I’d adopt another breed or Better yet a Rescue! In my house was a husband and a 10 year old daughter plus myself. Rommel was his name and again he was Nothing in your video was even close to what you said! He was a Wonderful Member of my family! You’re scaring some people from owning one. He should absolutely make people aware if the breed is not suited for them. It can absolutely be a scary experience and having a Doberman requires a HUGE commitment. I would not suggest Doberman's for MANY first time dog owners. My Dobermans have been valued just like yours. My first one was a GREAT pup but I made lots of mistakes with her but thankfully I was engaged to an experienced Doberman owner that prevented some unfortunate possible occurrences. For example, take an improperly socialized Doberman to a dog park and see what may happen. Have a Doberman from an inexperienced or backyard breeder that did not breed for temperament. Try to purchase home insurance in Florida with a Doberman on site when they do an inspection and watch your premium go up $2000 or cancelled. I have had Doberman's for decades. He has never said one word that was not spot on! I am not a dog person by any means BUT I AM A DOBERMAN FANATIC. I am thrilled you had a great experience but a Doberman is a LOT of dog for people that are not very familiar with the breed. Mistakes from lack of knowledge can cause serious consequences and harm for the Doberman, owner, family members and surrounding community.

They’re pretty notorious for this, but remember, it’s not from aggression... it’s their breed and nature, so like a human toddler that wants to put everything in their mouth, young dobies are the same. Ours is 6 months old now, and the nipping gets less and less all the time, with calm and controlled correction.... he also responds very well to “Ow!” or “Ouch!”. He knows what it means, and he doesn’t like to hear it...

@@kyungheeyoo1899 We also cross our arms and turn away from him, and if it’s a very excited nipping that just won’t quit, we either order outside to his yarn (he’s got a pen) or stick him in his crate...... usually in those cases he falls asleep too, which tells me that when he gets so carried away that normally effective corrections don’t work, he’s just too tired to function anymore. 😂 It gets better and better as the months go on, just continuing those little corrections.

@@kyungheeyoo1899 Oh and also, I dunno if you have little ones around, but flapping hands seems to be a real trigger for our guy, since day one..... it just looks soooooo fun to him, that he can barely contain himself. 😂 He truly believes little kids flapping their hands up and down is their invitation to him to get frisky lol He responds very well to “no” tho, and he’s extremely careful around little ones.... But those flapping hands throw him for a loop! Lol!

What I see from a lot of people with dogs that have high activity is that they take them running or they try to have a very tiring excercise session and it isn’t helping them at all. My advice is that you try to involve them in some kind of a mental stimulation/excercise for 15-20 mins a day. They will get tired trust me

Makes you wonder if non-show dobermans would be less intimidating to other if the ears were not cropped? I think most would not even recognize the breed if the ears were not cropped.

I was really curious about that as well. We live in Canada and ear cropping is illegal in most provinces here. We have a 12 week old red male doberman and his ears are not cropped. The breeder We got him from said the procedure was doable but he would have to be transported to Ontario to have it done (something they do offer to arrange and have done before taking the dog home) but we decided not to do it. We owned a Boxer before our doberman and his ears were floppy as well (tails are still docked as a breed standard). I really love the look when the ears are done but didn't see the need to have it done. Obviously no judgment here when I see a dog with its ears done its just interesting how these decisions are perceived. I would be lying if I said one of the reasons we decided not to do it was because other people would judge us when they see the dog out in public and think we are mean people to do that. Was there a time in the past it was ever done out of necessity or has it always been just for looks?

I've had 5 Dobie's in my life. All but my current girl were cropped and docked. I do find many don't automatically recognize her as a debbie right off because they ask. Although, getting used to a tail is a challenge so I actually trained her for not wagging by coffee table etc. Lol! The ears take extra care especially if your animal develops allergies. But all in all no biggie. Softens her face and accents her expressions and seem a wee bit more agile as we go hiking. Hope my experiences and thoughts were helpful. ♥️🙏🏻🌻🦋

We have a Miniature Schnauzer (now age 14) whom I've always said, THINKS she's a Doberman. Oddly enough, these two breeds share a LOT of the same traits! I agree that they are demanding of attention, my first Doberman, a red male I named Dakota, I used to like to lay on the floor and read magazines, and I could see out of the corner of my eye he was trying to get my attention, but I was reading an article and was ignoring him and continuing to read, he sat down in front of me and took his paw and he WHACKED me right on top of my head, smashing my face into the floor, I wasn't able to scold him because I was too busy laughing, and he was only about 6 or 7 months old at the time, quite mischievous, I've even had people misread his body language and thought he was going to attack my mother, my mom was one of his favorite people, he would never have attacked her, he was a lover not a fighter.

I would love to email you I have a few questions, but right now I have a very serious situation I'm not sure how to deal with. We rescued a 4yr old red Doberman, and he's so sweet. We have had him about a year now and all of a sudden he has been having what is like "episodes" of rage! I do have another Doberman just turned 5, since he was a puppy and a Australian Shepard for 10 years. It seems to happen when I sit on sofa and all dogs are near laying down napping. Trooper will appear to nap as well, but then starts to growl and it builds and he begins to turn on my other Doberman. It gets quite ugly, and we have to separate them fast. Then after 2 to maybe 3 minutes Trooper likes snaps out of it, and is his old self!?? I now have him on CBD oil for dogs once in morning and once in evening. Seems to help but still is there. Please help, I have taken him to vet and she said if cbd works then keep it going! I just want answers, because at times he will still have this happen. They go out everyday, we make homemade food to add to kibble. I play with them daily and walks. It seems to happen when im near. HELP PLEASE
