First time Doberman owners here! Our Atlas (red male) is just about 8 months old now. We've had our moments where we almost gave up but putting the work in and sticking to a plan has paid off. The advice and motivation from your videos has been so valuable for us. He's got such a strong personality and he loves uncondtionaly. I always heard Dobermans were an amazing breed but now I've seen what that means first hand. The biggest thing for us was making sure he has an outlet for all that energy. I've never seen a breed with such focus and trainability. His food drive is 10/10 and I'm convinced you can train these dogs to complete any task u can think of. My family and our dog thank you so much for making these videos!

Lb med doberman). All rescues including doberman from Germany working dog with all his papers, lineage, etc. Literally picked the clearance items at petsmart for real bones, chicken strips, chew toys (he figured out how to pull out the stitching from those "unchewable toys" so we have to watch him with toys...we spent a total with a $50 bed of $180 first month and now for all our dogs it's $85 a month including supplements for our old pitt and our german pincher that has seizures fom inbreeding (she's solid black found at 15weeks old full of fleas, tapeworms, and walking pneumonia). I would recommend lots and i mean LOTS of organic real animal bones because our doberman (every dog we have ever had) when he at all his bones would then eat ENTIRE SHOES AND POOP OUT!! Lots of canned mixed with kibble turkey, salmon,or lamb to prevent fatty liver disease. Sweaters are a MUST because anything colder than 70degrees makes them shiver! Rope toys are freat but watch him because they will eat that too. They have all natural fur toys that hunting dogs can safely eat and break down. $8/toy.

My first Doberman named DonDon was just biting up everything from cement bag to poised rats. I had to bring him several times to the vet for treatment. He was very active and could run freely up and down my garden. At the age of 11 month, he killed and bit up a poisonous tod at night. In the morning I found DonDon with a foaming mouth. The vet couldn't save his life, he was dieing there over night. My new Doberman Dandy behaved little better and hope there is no more tod in my yard again. Both Dobers are very loving dogs, interacting with children and visiting friends very friendly. Anyway they are good watchdogs, barking and defending my yard at night.

Ok. I have a 14 month Doberman who has been living with us for about exactly a year(he was 7 to 8 weeks when he became part of our family) Our Doberman isn't exactly properly trained. Like we taught him basic obedience but he does that only when he see treats. And in many ways he might be considered disobedient. But it's just that we treat him as a family member and Love him a lot. So we let him Do whatever he wants. We take him for walks and runs and playtime whenever he wants. But I think we are happy with how he is. It's just that he is a free spirited Young dog and we let him be that. And he respects boundaries and listens when we are serious. We might have done most mistakes said in the video But it doesn't mean we were wrong are our dog is unruly. Everyone says that our dog is the friendlest Doberman they have ever seen or That they didn't think Doberman can be friendly. I think even with minimum training a Doberman can be a perfect new family member. It's just that different people have different expectations from there Pets. And for the right family A free spirited Naughty dog is perfect

Same here. I got my Dobie when he was 10 months old. Not including the breeder, he's had 2 previous owners. He's intact and can be stubborn. I never taught him anything using treats as a reward. I just let him learn on his own. He's learned many thing quickly. Except for pulling on the leash during walks, and jumping up on people to meet them. He loves other dogs and has never shown aggression towards strangers. His one big problem, is when he picks up something (usually garbage people throw on the ground that has some food residue left on it) he gets mad if I tell him he can't have it. He'll start to snarl and show teeth. He'll sometimes touch his mouth to my hand as if he's going to bite if I move. He doesn't do this at home with his toys or food though.

My first Doberman was a love half American & European. She passed at almost 13 years. My European female puppy I got at 8 week and she's gonna be 2 years in 2 weeks. She's sweet but a monster and too much for my 2 daughters and me. She is from a lying breeder and since my first one was an angel I never knew I'd get a pup like the one you describe. My dog has had 2 experienced trainers and she's still a chore. Our boundaries are firm, as is our dog. From your video I've already failed. She can be so sweet and loving, I'm a sap! Leader, well it's her. And you know when you have a child you can't return her. I'm stuck, I love her! But we're all wear. She loves balls most of all and she plays and runs with them all the time. She's had 2 gastric surgeries to save her life where she ate a stuffed animal whole for $7,000 and the rope on a Kong toy for $8,200 so I shudder to think it'll happen again. Suggestions? And yes, I have to keep her cause each day she has to have massages and kisses and love and well, like I said, I'm stuck!

Thank you so much for the videos. I skipped the puppy stage with Luca (previously known as Blackie, we think he is about 3 years) because we adopted him from my father-in-law who moved to an old age home. My father-in-law taught him nothing except come. Luca is doing really well with the training we give him. And I have learned the hard way how important consistancy is with leash training...the afternoons I don’t have the willpower to be consistant with him on the walk, I do something else with him. Leash training is a challenge because he wants to be in front of me pulling, but if I am consistant to bring him back to the heel position, he complies, he is very smart, but he always try to take chances on the next walk. We love him to pieces, he is just a wonderful dog, and he is such a good brother to our 2 cats of 8 and 16 years. Keep up the good work! Hugs to Arlo.

Great video! What are your thoughts on dogs with 2 masters? I have a female Doberman and I now have a job so I am gone a few hours in the evening. I do most of the training, but hubby takes her for walks when I am gone and does some training with her as well. We also share in feeding and potty trips outside. She seems bonded to us both. I know that it is unusual with a female. She is still a bit mouthy, but nothing hard or mean, I think it's mainly teething. Just a fun fact...she is also OBSESSED with cats! Her behavior towards them depends on their behavior towards her. She loves my cat, sometimes a bit too much! Now when hubby takes her for walks, there is a friendly little orange kitty that walks right up to them. My dog will lunge and the kitty lays down and rolls over, happy pawing the air. So my dog likes this cat. Now, if a cat growls, hisses or aggressively swipes, my dogs barks ferociously! Thanks for the videos! They are very helpful!

This is a breed that needs training…this is not an ankle biter that if they act up you can ignore (although those need training too).. so many get Dobermans because they “look cool” and know nothing about the breed, to the detriment of the animal…and to the detriment of responsible Doberman owners. I have an almost 3 year old intact male who has hit his “teenage-young adult”stage and still needs training as he hits each of his phases of growth. Like children they have different behaviors at different stages of life.

LOVED this! It is so needed. This is definitely how owners fail their Doberman. I always tell first timers to research research research the breed and find a breeder they “click” with. A good breeder will always be available after the pup goes home to questions that may come up in the future. This clearly separates good breeders from back yard breeders who want to make a buck. Even high drive Dobermans want to please. Clear rules and boundaries are the key to having a happy home life for everyone in the family.

I've always found that boundries/kennel time makes a huge difference in how my 2 behave. I used to see it as a punishment, but now it is a tool, sometimes they can't chill, sometimes they are chilling, sometimes I just need some time wo them around, sometimes they just need some time apart, there are plenty of reasons, but your dog should be comfortable w being kenneled and it will take alot of stress out of your relationship esp helping w separation anxiety which believe me, your dobe will suffer from esp due to covid. These dogs love you and wanna be w you always, but sometimes for all parties involved a kennel is a great tool.

First I’d like to say your videos are so helpful in training a Doberman puppy and that I have learned a lot from you. I have a 4 month old dobie named Lexi and I also have a 12 yr old Fox Terrier named Myla who isn’t very fond of Lexi. I was wondering if you had any suggestions on an issue we’re having with the two of them. Myla is older and doesn’t want to be bothered by Lexi. Lexi always goes up to Myla and gooses her butt and turns around waiting for Myla to do the same meanwhile Lexi is playfully barking nonstop and Myla is aggressively barking at Lexi to leave her alone. This happens all day and I say no over and over and try to separate them but she run right back to her and does the same thing as soon as I allow them to play again. Also, Myla doesn’t want to share any toys with Lexi because Myla thinks they are all hers. There is chaos in the house whenever they are around each other. We bring Lexi to my in-laws to play and romp around with their two Doberman dogs two to three times a week so she can release some of her energy and so she can socialize with other dogs. Is there anything I can do to help them get along so my house doesn’t sound like a war zone all day.

G’day from Melbourne, Australia mate! Great content as always. A point I’d like to make is that Doberman’s are a breed that are masters at training their owners and that they are also continuously trying to assess their position in the pack hierarchy. But yep, they definitely thrive on having rules in their life, it’s amazes me sometimes, once they “get” it, they almost train themselves, but give them an inch and they’ll take a mile! Archers six now and I’d love to get him a couple of playmates and contemplating importing from the US which is incredibly difficult due to quarantine regs here. Except for Hawaii and Guam. Oh and on the subject of quarantine, I’d just like to say my hometown now beats the world! 260 days of lockdown and counting. Barely been able to leave the house except to walk the hound and buy food. For me it’s been a nightmare seemingly without end, but for my Doberman it’s literally been a golden age lol. 24/7 contact with just me in a tiny 150 year old cottage. I suspect that he has now developed the ability to read my mind. Aaaaaand finally I’d just like to say I’m so glad that he’s been here with me this whole time, I honestly don’t know if I’d have made it through all this crap if it wasn’t for his company. Best dog ever. A one in a million…🥲

Yes! I have been watching his videos over & over before & even since I got my new Doberman puppy a few weeks ago. She is so smart & amazing but boy is she stubborn! There have been times that I’ve thought oh man I don’t know if I can do this but watch these videos & try something from the videos & she gets it. I know she is still really young & need to give her time but oh man she’s tested me a few times lol how is it going now with your pup? I see your comment was 9 months ago.

I have an 8 month Doberman, overall he is very well behaved super mellow he knows when it’s time to play and sleep. He loves hiking we take them to day care all the time. But the biggest issue that I’m having is taking him out on a walk where I live I live in downtown LA so there’s a lot of stimulation. He has gotten better but still is really afraid to go on a walk I’ve had him since he was eight weeks and now that he’s getting older and is aware of his surroundings he’s become very scared.😫

All want-to-be Doberman owners should make this a mandatory video. Outstanding advice! Funny story: when we went to pick out a puppy there was one that was always climbing a rope to the ceiling. As cute as it was, we knew that it was the dog that watched Netflix with the breeder that was the one for us!!! Full disclosure, Moses is by no means a couch potato. We exercise him vigorously which makes him a behavioral angle…most of the time. I do think of the rope-climbing Doberman and hope that he landed an athlete for his owner and hope he did not end up a statistic.
@DobermanPlanet3 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much, Suzanne! It's always great to hear from you. That rope climbing Doberman sure would turn out to be a handful in the wrong family! We hope he got an athletic owner as well. Moses sounds like a great fit for your house! Tell him Arlo says hi!

I Love this youtube page, great help, THANK YOU! HOWEVER, I feel the need to share my personal exp. and STRUGGLES w/ a Dobie pup (just turned 1 yr old...) AND how this youtube page was NOT my "saving grace" in the "ordeal". This page just shows you the "POSITIVES" and not the STRUGGLES of what having a Dobie means. And so, based on my exp, I rec that you take your ownership/responsibility to your dog's actual "THRIVING", (and simultaneously helping YOU), to a "higher" level and; moreover, an example that shows you the "ugly/difficult" as well. I think that's a FAIR way to put it, to any new Dog owner, ESPECIALLY a WORKING dog like the DOBERMAN, so stop watching youtube videos on how to train just any dog, i.e. most popular breeds on youtube: small &/or slightly medium dogs. So, I just want to remind Doberman puppy owners that before long their "pup", will be HUGE (they grow FAST), and how important EARLY OBEDIENCE TRAINING is/that beyond what this great youtube page offers. Hence, I HIGHLY recommend watching @Maligatormom youtube channel for some SERIOUS guidance and advice on your Dobie pup. Although her "forte" is the BM breed & not the Dobie, the BM in my opinion WAY MORE "needy" of "serious" training than the Dobie, I guess THAT IS MY POINT! STEP-IT-UP if you are "serious" about the Dobie pup you just adopted... DO NOT STOP HERE! This channel (which again, I LOVE and SUPPORT)... is too "SOFT" on what having a Doberman will mean on a person/family. Soooo my advice I guess is just DON'T STOP HERE with your research/understanding of Dobie pups and what THEY need to thrive in a household. And as above mentioned, is one page a recommend (Malialigatormom.com)... but it's just a rec., my genuine ask/req of those reading this right now is to continue your research on Dobies to help establish the best home/lifestyle/upbringing and always keep in mind that they are a seperate/particular breed... JUST ONE (1) EXAMPLE: the "tips" on how to house train a Poople or American Bully may not serve for a Doberman. Peace Out. Namaste.

Every day gets a bit easier. Try to focus on the great memories you had with that dog and be grateful to have had 10 wonderful years with an amazing animal. Thoughts and prayers for you and your family in this difficult time.
