We have always had a male and female Rottweiler in the past. About a year ago, our male passed so we adopted a Rotterman (Rottweiler - Doberman Mix). Your comments about the older dog helping to train the younger or newly adopted dog and grieving for a lost mate are spot on. And yes, they will double the fun and protection.

Our girls unfortunately experience conflict so i have to watch them constantly. They are a year apart because a family gave up my younger one so I had to have her. So she did not get the puppy socializing that my first one did. My youngest one loves her toys so does not like to share. They can never be alone…so sad because I wanted them to be the best of buddies.

for those interested in getting 2 dobbies (or 2 of any kind of dogs), i would suggest that you consider getting them with a fairly descent age difference. john mentioned some good points for this, but i have one other point that really hit home with me and that is to help you with the end of life issues. when a dog is at that stage, in my experience, they can easily be a whole lot of extra work (even more than the puppy stage), but also the emotional stress of one is more than enough to deal with, let alone having to grieve for 2 at the same time. just my thoughts.

"food is a great cause of agression between two dogs in the same house" * watches as my dobbie and doxie drink from the same bowl, and as they take turns eating from the foodbowl * maybe it was because we had two other dogs (one of them being a different dachshund) when we got our dobbie, but he has no aggression at all when it comes to food. it's funny, he's actually developed a habit of taking a mouthful of food over to a chair and eats it off of the chair while our daschund eats. he's a weirdo, that Yuma, but he's gentle with small dogs and children. but I just wish he had a bigger dog to keep up with him when he runs.

We have brother and sister dobies. They're almost 9 months old. We live on, partially, wooded 23 acres. They run, run, run. Very, very active. We have separate kennels in the house. When it's time to rest, they go to their bed. We allow them to go in and out. Have tracker collar on them, so we know where they are. The female is for sure the instigator. She growls when they have a toy tug or if she has something she doesn't want him to have. He is so laid back, but when he gets tired of her hoarding something, then he lets her know that he is the boss. Never has hurt her, but she will scream like he is. They train quick and easy. They both wants lots and lots of affection. We love our Dobermans.

I forgot to mention they always had separate bowls for food & water. When I made oatmeal I would let them lick the pan at the end and Max as a 5-7 mo puppy got a little testy with Sadie the older female and he wanted the whole pan and not share. That was the last time as I always supervised and I said NO! If you do that you are on time out and he was until he could be nice. Then I told him because you behaved like that now you will start taking turns. From then on turns worked great! She was always first him second. They did that as well at the park water fountain. They knew their turn and when done I said now it is Sadie's turn etc and the other would immediately back off. If you work constantly with things when they are little you will be good for a long time!!! Never fought in 9 years! Their whole life!!!

Your observation that training the second doberman is easier matches my experience. I did not expect that to be the case and I was pleasantly surprised. Additionally, I don't think its necessarily a "Dobie Thing" either. We introduced a pit mix puppy rescue in our home with two Dobies and the pitty caught on to the rules of the house and was house broken pretty easily. We had two female Dobies and did not experience any aggression between the two, the pit-mix is also a female with no conflicts either.

This was a great video! I had 1 female Doberman then when she was 2 1/2 we got our male. It just happened that way because it took time to train and then it is hard to think of starting over! I am so glad we die because the other point you touched on was when one passes away. Well when the female was 9 years old she died of Cardiomyathapy. It was super sad however we had the boy for another 2 1/2 years and then he died after having seizures at 9 years old as well. The cost of toys, food vet etc was good. We always took our dogs and the 3-5 times the just boarded at the pet hotel at petsmart who already knew both of them and I never did the combined room with other dogs just my 2 dogs in their big room. Other than that they would stay at my house with my adult son or daughter. The hard part for me was walking them. I walked one easily but walking 2 they both fed on each others energy when they saw other dogs. I am getting a Doberman puppy next spring and I plan to do extensive training to desensitize them to other dogs! On another note good breeders will not sell you a Doberman of the same sex. Especially a male. In 9 years my dogs never fought!!! They got along great!!!! Male was the Alpha & the female was submissive however when Max the male was a puppy the female since she was 2 1/2 showed him all the ropes!!!!

@Doberman Planet we adopted two European Dobies and two females at that when both were puppies. They are 2.5 months apart and are distant cousins (same breeder). While somewhat challenging at first, we've had a fantastic experience. They get along great and really compliment each other personality-wise. We might have gotten lucky perhaps because both are very different: one is mellow, the other is high energy. Now they are 14 and 12 months old respectively, both are intact, and are the best dogs we've ever had. One is a black and rust, the other is a brown and rust. As an added curiosity, the younger black female was born with a deformed paw (not genetic) and is a tripawd. She gets tired more quickly, but is perfectly capable otherwise and sprints as fast as the four-legged dobie and is actually the alpha between the two. I think our case helps highlight just how much proper training and socialization matter. Even during Covid, we've prioritized fundamentals and are now benefitting from owning amazing ambassadors to the breed. We are complimented on our dogs everywhere we go. We live in the Santa Cruz Mountains near San Jose, CA. Let us know if you have any questions!

We tried 2. Brothers ..got them at 8 weeks. They were besties. About 6-8 months we had to separate them to their own crates. Out of the blue they started vicious fighting at crate time. My husband was on the receiving end of a bite that ended up getting stitches at the ER. Each dog had battle scars but we decided to find one another home after one was grabbed by the nose and ripped a nostril causing a home visit by the vet. He was able to stitch it. It was heartbreaking 💔 to have to adopt him out.

I rescued her (Kiesha) and after a month in the hospital, she came home. Sweetest dog ever. She has some pshchological trauma but this never manifests in aggression. So I train the dogs since I am stay at home and I trained the family too (the most important part). Each dog has a separate walk with one kid a day and I also take them for joint walks. Hubby takes them onto old logging roads for a run 3 times a week where they run for 6-10km at approx 25-30km/hr. And they spend lots of time in the backyard on nice days with loads of toys and well just each other. Happy, well adjusted and friendly yet can be very protective depending on situation and we encountered few. Love my babies. They also like to sleep and snuggle with "mom". What can I say, I make lots of homemade foods for them (both raw and cooked) and feed them high end kibbles in between.

Well mate Just in Time as always. My Doberman’s just turned six and I’ve been thinking it’s the perfect time to get another one. After 9 months of lockdown here in Melbourne, Australia and being walked about 15 kms a day, he’s one seriously ripped hound now. Like owning a leopard lol…

I disagree about training separately. Dogs that live to please can learn in tandem very quickly. I once taught a new coydog to heel-walk offleash with my older 2 dogs in just over a week. I would also say she was highly reliable at it too. Then in training I would leash the coydog and let her watch my older dogs go through several repetitions of their tricks. Then I would have her trade places and I would work with her. It gave her a good example to follow and made a friendly competition between the dogs to be the best. It worked fabulously.

I have 4 dobes, 3 girls and a boy. Definitely a handful. Definitely chaotic at times. Absolutely NOISY when they're riled up. At the beginning of 2020 I had 7. We were unfortunate enough to lose 3 of our pack in a 6 month period in the second half of the year. I am currently searching for a new, 5th, pack member. This said, it's not uncommon to spend more than a year ( usually closer to 2) searching for the puppy or dog that will be the perfect fit. Do your research. Find an excellent breeder who knows their dogs and LISTEN to them. And possibly, most importantly, be prepared to do your job as leader of the pack and put in the work. These guys are more rewarding than I could have ever imagined and totally worth it. More than that, they deserve it. Count your Dobermans(blessings)!!!

I got 2 males from the same litter about 2 1/2 years ago, one for my mom and one for myself. They played great with eachother at first. After awhile though, I had to quit taking mine over to my mom's to visit because they began to fight and it's a little scary as they're both over 100 lbs ....

Regarding the consideration of additional cost of a 2nd Doberman, what about the additional cost & drama of bringing an additional human into the home??? I would choose the Doberman every time! Have you not seen the mess humans make???

Besides my wife and I our kids are grown. So yes, I would and DID get 2 dobie's to add to our household. 2 lovely Red girl's. One American, the other Euro mix. Love them both. Training is a must. So have the time to spend with them to get the best out of them.

My boy Rex passed on July 23rd. He was over 100 pounds and was very athletic.. My son's girlfriend gave him the dog and he became mine at about two years old.. He was very friendly at the dog park and always protected his little sister. He knew he was the king. He could be very hard headed at times. I want to get two his size but I did not know there could be issues. So I think you are saying I can but they should be from different litters.

We have 3. Let me tell you, Luna, the oldest, is 1 year 11 months; Bella and Reagan are 17 weeks old. They all 3 have the same mom and dad. We were only going to get Reagan but on the way to get Reagan my father in law asked if we could take Bella. She has a small birth defect with a recessed vulva making it harder to sell her. My sis-in-law who was helping him with dogs was going out if town, my wife & I said yes we'd take her for a couple weeks knowing that once we saw her she would be ours. I'm so glad we got her, she has been great. We haven't had any problems with dinner time aggression or separation issues. Love these dogs. We also have an Aussie mix, Daisy, we rescued of the side if the road who is 1 year 7 month's and a male cat, Toby, who is 11 1/2 months old.

We just got a female Doberman puppy 2 weeks ago and yesterday we got her sister from the same litter because she was the smallest one and no one would take her. After watching the video, I’m now worried they won’t get along because they are two females and are both the same age. So far, I’m having trouble because my first puppy wants to play with her sister but she hurts her because she is a lot smaller. They are both 8 weeks old.

What a shame that you’re not getting another puppy! We have a Doberman and a Rottweiler, they are two weeks apart and of the same sex (females). They are almost a year old and it hasn’t been easy with training, but they get on really well - no regrets!!

Used to have 2 Euro, one brown and one black. The black and tanned female I had for 2 years when I got the 16 month old Brown male. She helped greatly with all the training. But boy when they wanted to play, they'd knock couches over lol I used to take them off leash at conservation areas and never had to worry about the younger male, cause my girl would always keep him in line and he'd follow her everywhere. I mad the mistake of putting them in same crate once inside the house, heard some awful sounds and came running down the stairs. Luckily both were OK, never put them again both in that same cage, which was designed for one large dog, not two. lol He died though at 6 (had some bad reaction to some medication the vet gave him), but my female really missed him when he passed. She lived to 13. Both were great, very well behaved and had great temperaments.

I've had 3 or 4 males always. No issues whatsoever in the family. We own our houses, so that is almost a necessity. And they all go thru the exact same training programs - which is also a necessity. Its funny...they all are so bonded.

None of my dogs including my half wolf dog was ever allowed to show the slightest aggression when it came to food. Mine were trained as a puppy to give not only me the ability to put my hand in it's bowl and even take food out of the half wolf dog's mouth if I so chose. The reason for this was because of incase any children were ever around them by accident they would not show aggression towards any child or adult unless THEY felt the evil from that person. My dogs had no problems when it came to protection. But my dobby a baby could take it's chew bone out of it's mouth. It happened before I could get there and the dog just looked at her and waited for her to give it back. Won't own a dog that would show any aggression to any member of the amity for any reason.

i always wanted two dobermans, but given the size of our house, and the fact that we just had our first child (our pup is 14months old and is soooo sweet and gentle around the baby), and the fact that i take the pup with me to work every day, we decided it's better to just have one. for now lol

I have one European doberman got her from the shelter at 7 months old. My other American doberman is gonna be 3 in November and they act like best friends/sisters have never gotten into fights with eachother but the one I got from the shelter was owned by an old man who didnt socialize her much so I have been doing that and she is doing alot better with people except at home she will bark at people when shes in the fence or if shes inside and someone new comes in... she also barks like crazy at the dog park when she sees new people come in or get to gate.. I'm not sure how to adress/fix that people always act scared of her and I've been told aggressive breeds shouldn't be brought to dog park yet my American doberman love the park and Is good with other dogs

It's a great idea. I know because I already have 15 dobermans. Yeah you Have to struggle a bit more and that would be costlier(so only do it if you can afford it) but that's fun. They can make your self look more cool🤩😎(both hands with dobermans on leash). It would be more protective for you or your family but I'm sad you won't be able to get an other. Still so fun. Hey this video was so much bad ass how did you edit it.
