In this video, I'll tell you how you can take full advantage of the natural instincts of the Doberman Pinscher to teach them tricks insanely quickly. I'll outline the simple steps I use to teach tricks to my Doberman. My Doberman Cooper had a solid grasp on all the tricks I demonstrate in this video in just three days (or less) of training around his mealtimes. Teaching a Doberman these impressive tricks in just three days may seem like a tall order-lucky for us, Dobermans are highly trainable if you use the right technique!
For my full list of tricks (with step-by-step pictures) that you can easily teach to your Doberman, check out: www.dobermanplanet.com/easy-t...
As most Doberman owners know all too well, not every dog product works well for this unique breed. That's why I maintain a list of the best products I've found so far for Dobermans.

Great tips as usual John. I have a 11 week old puppy that has picked up the basic obedience commands within five days. In my short period of time as a Doberman owner, I have found your comment about adding gestures to be completely spot on. In fact, I have noticed that if I have a brain freeze, and give the wrong verbal command with a hand gesture the puppy follows the hand gesture.

Just have them in basic obedience then work with them we have one at work he’s our shop dog and didn’t work much with him after training he’s a little wild (10 months now) but is slowly getting better he’s not mean but plays a little rough but very loving. The problem is when customers come he charges to meet them and wants to play with them and having an 80 pound dobie run up to you when you don’t know him scares the crap out of some people. But he is getting better if we took more time to work with him we probably wouldn’t have this problem. Good luck they are fantastic dogs. Also have him docked and cropped despite what some idiots say they aren’t traumatized ours would fall asleep when posting his ears and loves having his ears played with so if he was traumatized he wouldn’t want his ears touched

After watching your dog balance a treat on his nose it reminded me of something that happened with 1 of my Dobermans, she was named Shannon. Here's my story, while watching tv a lot of times I would just run through my dogs bag of tricks just for practice. This one time while watching a football game on tv I placed a treat on the tip of her nose. Now she knows she can't eat it till I say ok. Well something happened in the football game that we was watching and I got more involved in the game and forgot to tell her ok. Some time went by before I looked at her and realized I forgot to tell her ok. She was still sitting there with her treat on the tip of her nose. But now so much time went by that she was drooling in anticipation of eating her treat. I felt so bad for her because I forgot to release her. But she never wavered from her trick. She was the smartest dog I have ever seen. She could learn some new tricks in just 1 afternoon. I would run through some new trick just once and she got it. I really miss that dog. She died in 1985 from Kidney failure. She was only 5 years old.

Thanks for sharing valuable tips. I had German Shepherds before, but this time I am planning to get one male Doberman and a male German Shepherd , most likely of same age. I like the fact that Dobermans are less messy because of no fur and not much wax formation in the ears unlike German Shepherds.I subscribed.

Hello John, your channel is just brilliant. i like that your videos cover topics that dobe (pet owners not breeders) family, whether first or not, encounter. it reflects in your experiences and the way you share it making it extremely relatable. Is Cooper an European dobermann? i'm testing my self after viewing your other video on american vs european dobes. it's a bit hard trying to recognize one over the other if not in person. im hoping to get my first dobe early jan next year. pregnancy confirmed. its an american line. maybe my next would be an european line. I appreciate your videos and truly enjoy them. thanks and keep those videos coming.

Thanks so much for the kind words it really means a lot! I love that people are finding useful information from what I share. Cooper is a European Doberman. Over the past 25 - 30 years, I've raised/owned/have had part of my family at least 8 dogs. In the beginning, I always used verbal and non-verbal commands, which, as some of my previous dogs have lost hearing, the visual commands were super useful. I'm not sure where I picked up this technique, but I have and continue to use both verbal and visual commands.

A neighbor used to have some pretty expensive dogs that had the run of the neighborhood. They spent a lot of time at our house because all animals love my daughter. This isn’t a trick, but I loved watching a young German Shepard learn to catch a bite of food. The first few just bounced off his head. Then he watched the Weinheimer (spelling?)catch food. The GS’s head went back and forth like he was watching a tennis match. You could see him thinking. She sent a bite his way, and the GS started catching it. That was cute. Loved watching the light bulb turn on in his head.

Hey big of fan of your channel recent viewer. Love your content and very informative. I’m watching each and every video multiple times before I get myself a Doberman. Quick question, I was wondering if you could do a video on bark on command training along with light protection teaching training. A lot of the other videos I’ve seen really contradict your teachings. Really would like your input on how you’d go about this training. Looking for bark on command and assuming a protective stance without lunging if that helps clear up anything. (Not looking for a bite on command )

you mentioned that a visual cue is good to do along with the verbal command. to add to why you feel that this is good i might add that a friend of mine does this as well. they told us that having a visual cue is also good in cases where your dog might develop a loss of hearing as they advance in age. should that happen, the visual cue becomes even more important. as always, great vid! thanks!

Well, I don't have a video for that specifically. But I did recently write a training article that covers some of that! Maybe it'll be useful! www.dobermanplanet.com/how-to-train-a-doberman/

If I might say, I never had a problem with house breaking because I had another dog who was totally trained. One dog trained the other. Maybe you can borrow a friend's dog or have them visit for a week and they have it! Be consistent and have patience. Never be hard handed with this breed. They will walk on water for a piece of jerky. Just make your own in the oven! Easy peasy! No spices though. Just have your local deli slice a nice cheap roast for jerky. And use your oven.

Any good European Doberman breeders in Canada that you would recommend? The closer to home the better. Thanks!
