Maybe you can have a 50/50 dog in the next one...my dog Thanos shares both traits hes as big as Euro but sleek like an American darker red markings but not as big in the head...and 100 percent the most protective but stubbornest dog ive ever owned...im glad I binged on your videos before getting one...hes 20months old but still acts like he's 10months old. one thing i noticed about the ears it seems the euro ones have a more rounded bottom to the ear where the american has a sharper point to the ear (when they have full floppy ears)

Also, i have a fawn European Dobermann. They are rare because they are automatically excluded from the breeding but not every breeder wants to put puppies to sleep just because they don't confirm to standards. Luna is our princess, 100% stubborn Dobermann and we love her no matter what colour.

European breeders dont cull dilute puppies... thats a myth! They just dont breed them.

Nyx was 💯 % European. Her ears were so floppy we called her Dumbo when she ran lol We will be getting another puppy next fall from the same breeder Nyx came from. Will be my first male dog...ever, and he'll also be a European. Fun video John. Cheers

LOVED the quiz! EhT a fun idea! We have a 3/4 European girl. Her rust patches are definitely dark and ears are pretty thick. Her body is thicker and more square than our American girl that we had previously. Love your channel! Thank you for highlighting this amazing breed and breaking down the stereotype that gobies are killer breed. They are great family dogs that are smart, local and beautiful.

All these puppies pictures were awesome. I got 8 correct. Have had Dobermans for 40 years now. I am on my 7th Doberman. She is a white 5 year old rescue. Thanks for your advice as it is always good to learn new ideas. I look forward to every Sunday issue.

We have a puppy from an American female and a European Father. It is funny how DNA works, My male at 10 months is HUGE and looks identical to his European father. When his ears were cropped the vet asked about the breeder because his ears stood up as soon as she cut them which makes sense because his ears are thick. You are also right in regards to color, it seems like the black is bleeding into the rust. Almost as if his orange-like rust is slowly fading to black.

I have an 11 week old Red Doberman and after watching this he is most definitely American. Except he does have floppy ears. He had a BIG problem with using the bathroom in the house, so we got on a strict schedule on bringing him outside. He'll still catch us off guard from time to time, but he's gotten a lot better. Sit, Come and Stay command's he's mastered already. He'll even wait until I tell him to eat before he goes to his bowl.

Our Stuks is 11 now and he still is a very handsome European Dobie 100 lbs intact male he has the thick ears but has a very nice show crop its our 4th Dobie last one was more feminine looking male so was an American but all of the Dobies we had were great dogs our grown kids have Dobies too great Breed my hubby is out of town a lot and I never have to worry about burglars ect

Just listen to their bark, does it have an American,,or a European accent! Nah, seriously, the European Dobes are blockier and more square build, the Americans have fine fluid lines, more like a Whippet, their temperaments are different too, the American lines are more shy, the European strain in more 'in your face'. I had a succession of Dobes since 1973, and I prefer the European lines. That's not a criticism of the American Dobes, they're ALL wonderful, Dobermans are so different from every other dog I've worked with or owned. I agree with everything else the OP said. All in all, a good presentation, well done.

9 out of 10 correct for me. Not difficult. We may have a built-in sense for what looks more like one or the other. The variation in face shape and of black&brown coloration are very natural guides in recognizing which is which.

I have my first litter of dobermans. The sire is 100% European, the dam is 50/50. My largest girl has this white blaze or flash on her chest. She definitely has the dominant European body and face! The color of the rust is more American! I found this video very interesting. Thank you! I would love to send you a picture!

Red and rust is how mine was described (1993)…. She was more sturdy…. The non kennel/rescues were more narrow and pointy (maybe they were the American)

Got 9 of 10 but almost missed one other one. The reds are harder to tell on. And when you have a side by side it's not to hard. But some of those pictures if you didn't know they was different it would be very hard to tell. But the real test is when your looking at a puppy by itself. Without something for reference or another "different" nonsibling puppy it would still be very hard at times.

Mines an American - Red/Rust. I saw some red puppies last week and knew they weren’t the same as mine, their heads were much chunkier, like a Rottweiler. At the time I thought they may not be pure Dobbies (the parents weren’t visible), but now I know they are the European ones, which I assumed would be the most common in this country, and assumed was the one I had. Mine is sleek.

It was fairly easy. But I have a 3 euros and one American. But the baby is a red euro so made the reds( brown in euro) easy to guess. I imported my boy from croatia. The quiz was fun❤

Question: Do European Dobermans have more compact, cat like feet? I've noticed that on certain American lines that are show dogs also have the compact cat feet. I'm looking for a puppy these days, probably my last one, and I really like the compact feet. (among other qualities, of course)!
