In this video, I talk about all the major differences between male and female Dobermans. We'll talk about their physical, health, and behavioral differences. Male and female Dobermans have different temperaments and may react differently to a situation, so make sure you know what you're getting into before you pick out your new puppy! I have a female Doberman. Shes amazing! I always had a hard time keeping friends because I have depression so I got her as a pup and its been 8 years now and she's really my best friend. She gets me up when im down. She wakes me up with kisses cuddles with me at night. She keeps me active. I still don't have friends but she is all i need. ❤

That is true, my family has bred pure German Shepherds and Doberman Shepherds and we've never fed them dog food, only human food(with no oil, no salt), Meat...they have lived to 15years

Someone I know had a female Doberman and he was walking her in a park and there was a Pitbull type dog attacking a little girl, and without being told she went in grabbed the Pitbull, shook it, and tossed it aside and saved the child. Some years later she died from a heart problem more than likely what you mentioned, and her owner had no idea she had anything wrong with her. So sad 😢

That is the most common range of deaths but i had a pit bull and a Doberman they died around 19-23 years of age so it really depends on the dog and the dogs health

Yeah kibble diet is usually pretty bad, dogs should be fed raw meat, eggs and vegetables, the omnivore diet, that's the most healthy for them

My doberman died really young( got killed by thiefs) at the age of 5 he guarded his home like no other dog i had and he was a one person dog he only ate from my hands sometimes it was hard cause i had to go on trips. Many years past and i still mis him since then i never bought a dog again

I have both a male and a female doberman and this is pretty accurate... The female is a lot more stoic and reserved, will accept attention but doesn't beg for it, VERY in tune with human emotions and she's a lot easier to train. The male is quite clumsy and playful, seeks plenty of attention constantly, is very attentive (follows me around like a shadow, notices any movement) and a bit slower to grasp concepts, but he still gets there with praise and treats! They both have different personalities but are both very loyal, sweet and protective dogs. I love them both equally!

The following like a shadow part is insanely accurate. No matter how tired he is or how well-locked the house is, my dobie will always follow me whenever I move. Sometimes I'll hide from him after he goes downstairs & once he realises he starts to fret & runs around looking for me. Also whenever dad or I go for bike rides & runs without him he barks & cries out of frustration. I'd argue they are the most loyal/needy dogs in existence lol.

I’m a guy and I’ve had 2 dogs growing up before I left the hometown, 1 male and 1 female. And I can honestly say the female was literally my best non human friend. I could just feel the love as soon as i walked in the house. A weird unspoken connection I had with her where I really didn’t need to spend house of training with her she just understood what I was telling her and I understood what she was asking of me. Loved going on hikes with her she would go off on her own on the trail but as soon as I got out of her view she would stop and wait for me to catch up until I told her to go off. I’ll always have a female dog from now on.

I pretty much found all what you said to be the case with my male and female dobies. My male was more dominant in protecting the house and whenever out, my female was always more focussed on keeping an eye on whoever came near me. Neither were vicious by the way...but they certainly acted the part. My male was initially VERY difficult to train and I had to send the female to a relative for a couple of weeks so I could bond with and train the male without interruption...that really turned the corner...it was kinda like before that he knew I had a better bond with the female (who I had first). My male lost soooo many collars, my female never lost one🤣🤣. He was proper goofy and would cry if I shut the toilet door and had to ALWAYS be touching me whether head in my lap, leaning against me or legs across mine etc and would often do the dead weight thing if you tried to move his enoooormous body🤣...really great companion...you are never alone..I am a marathon stroker so I guess he was a good fit. My female was indeed smaller and more delicate, sat in a chair like a human and really picked up on emotions...and would even go to comfort strangers by leaning against them or if they were accepting she`d gently put her head in their lap if they were crying. She was incredibly gentle with children, whilst she at times dragged me around on the lead, if a little human had the lead, she suddenly knew how to walk in SUPER slow motion🙄...incredible! I always watched both dogs very carefully around kids and whilst neither of them showed even a smidgen of aggression towards us or kids, my female was particularly much more passive with children than the male. Finally, guess who was the only one to have knocked me over on a walk in the park....yep the goofy 🤪 male...bumbling along, playing together and he took me clean off my feet and airbound🤣🤣. My female was always much calmer and more careful...he adored her and would give her all his toys and food if I let him. She, however seemed to think he was annoying and beneath her...kinda like the lady and the tramp cartoon but sometimes she'd show him she loved him too. It has been nearly 15years since they both passed and I still think dobies are the greatest pets😊

Nice! It's neat to hear your perspective and this sounds very similar to the Cane Corso. The males are more protective of property whe the females are more focused on protecting the person. It's like that maternal instinct kicks in! Both want to protect you and will but it's just different and it's very interesting to see the similarities with other breeds!

I've only had one Doberman, a female named Jenny, and that was back in the 1970's and she fit your profile exactly. She was a one person dog, and I was that person, and had little interest in guarding property but was very focused on protecting me personally. I am of the belief that a female Doberman is probably the easiest dog to train for anything. I spent 20 minutes one day teaching her to come to heel whenever I approached a street and to not begin to cross unless I did so myself or if I said, "Okay Jenny" and after that one lesson she obeyed that rule for the rest of her life. I've also had contact with many male Dobermans owned by other people and they also fit your profile of the males. Although I love the breed very much I've only had one dog of each breed during my life----I am now 71----and have since had a Golden Retriever, who was an amazing dog, and currently have Logan, my magnificent male Rhodesian Ridgeback who is every bit as loyal as a Doberman and also very protective. Basically a good dog is a good dog is a good dog, no matter the breed, but for beauty and brains it is hard to beat a good Doberman Pinscher.

Jack Kangaroo... OMG when I read your post I thought "did I write this"...No kidding, I had my first Doberman (in the early 70's) her name was Jenny too! She was the smartest most loyal companion out of the 4 I've had. So funny they had the same name. I don't think I ever had her on a leash I swear the only difference between her and humans was she couldn't talk. She was one of the first "frisbee" dogs I ever saw that was her thing and she loved swimming diving and hiking and gentle as a lamb and would never hesitate when I told her to do something. Funny how Dobermans had a stigma about them being "killer" dogs back then...now it's pit bull types that get that honor. BTW her name came from the song "Jennifer Juniper" by Donovan I can't say why but it stuck, sometimes I would call her Jennifer like if she needed scolding...she knew. And I miss her to this day, good thing my current dobbie "Lyra" can't read she'd get jealous.

@@harryberry474 I remember that song, Jennifer Juniper, but I just always liked the name Jennifer and it was easily shortened into "Jenny," so I named her that. One or two syllable names seem to work best for dogs, I mean, if you named your dog Mephistopholes or Pappadopolis they would likely get confused. Anyway, you may have heard that back in the early days of the Doberman breed in America----I'm thinking like 1930's or so----they were known as "the dog with the human brain" because they learned everything so quickly. They are a wonderful example of a German working breed and were actually chosen by the Marine Corps during WWII as their breed of choice for the war in the Pacific and they served valiantly as sentry and scout dogs. Many of them died in the war and there is a monument to these fallen hero animals on the island of Guam where they are buried in a small cemetery there. Google search "war dog memorial on Guam" and you can find more information including photos of the Doberman sculpture that is still there.

I've had 16 dogs. By far, the best dogs I've had are the four dobermans. Both the boys and the girls were sweet. The boys always made me laugh, while the girls stole my heart. Found that while people feared the males due to their size, the females were more protective. The males tended to be more friendly to strangers. When deciding whether to get a Male or female doberman, I say get one of each.

I have a 7 month old male Dobie..... very accurate description other than he is VERY in tune with my emotions, even as a puppy. If I'm upset, he wont stop snuggling me. If he figures out that its a person in the room upsetting me, he switches from being social to a one person dog almost instantly. My sleep, anxiety and depression has improved so much with him already, i cant imagine getting a different breed now.

I wanted a male but ended up with a big beautiful red female. So glad I did, she fits me perfect. She is so careful with my 2 young kids, she is my two yr old daughter's best friend. She's not nearly as clumsy as I've seen other breeds. She fits your description to a "T"...although I couldn't imagine her being more clingy as you say the males are lol. She is the perfect dog. I love her so much!! She is a woman's dog, loves women and is more cautious with men. She is so smart, she can outsmart me if I'm not careful and she thinks about listening to me, before she actually does it most of the time, especially on recall! She is the best dog though and really glad I got a female now!

We had a Female Rescued Doberman, her names was Mika. We had to let her go at age 7 from Bone Cancer. Mika was uncut and that played to her advantage. She was a " Poster Dog " for Dobermans. People were not afraid to ask if they could pet her, it was only when they asked what kind of dog she was did many people step back and away. My response to that was she is still the same lovely dog and she loves all people. I have an in home dog sitting business and I take mostly small breed dogs. I relied on Mika to help with the small dogs. Her intuition about which dog was insecure, which was well rounded , Teaching Proper Pack Behavior and which dog would not fit into the group. She loved to play and would puppy bow to pups and after they got over her size, playtime was on. Mika was not allowed to use her mouth on the small dogs, so she would use her head instead, which was at times as big as the pup she was playing with and she also would let the small dogs get up on the couch and she would lay beside it and play with the other dogs this way. Dobermans can be very vocal when they play and people who do not know the breed well thought she was being aggressive, She was one amazing, loving, caring and wonderful girl. I could go on forever about all the Light and Love she brought to the family., but once you get a Doberman your Heart is Stolen Forever. One other thing Dobermans are known to be sorters. Mika , when we couldn't take her with us, on several occasions, she would take all the shoes on the rack and line them up in a line, all facing the same way and all about 5 to 6 feet apart. The line would start in the hallway and go out the back door down the stairs across the patio and end in the middle of the yard. I have seen stories about other Dobies who can sort their toys into groups and color and all stuffed dogs cats bunnies etc. all facing the same direction. Lastly, if you introduce a ball, be prepared to play for a few hours and Do Not Think, putting the BALL in a draw ,you will be able to hide that Ball.......Their Noses are so Good they can find it anywhere you put it, Even In A Closet On The Top Shelf Wrapped In A Dryer Sheet........

I am 68 , have had dogs (we have 5, 4 of them seniors and 1 rescue Pitbull pup ) and horses so lots of training experience and I’m thinking a female Doberman should be on my bucket list after we say goodbye to our seniors. My high school girlfriend had 2 neighbors one with a full blooded Doberman male and one with a female full blooded rescued greyhound. She was gifted a female love child of the 2 and gave me Layla as a young pup for my 15th bday. She gave me 16 and a half yrs of happiness and was the best dog ive ever known yet alone had as my own. My little sister was 4 when we got her and would not let anyone even common family members near her unless i explicitly let her know it was ok. It was almost as my Layla could sense my protectiveness of my naby sister. She was with me all the time in the car/truck and slept with me either at the foot of my bed or cuddled right up to me depending on who else was in bed lol. I tell everyone i know Dobermans even when not full breed are phenomenal family dogs and to they’re primary owner are more in tune to your feelings than most humans at any given time. Now at age 35 i miss her every day and still cant bring myself to have another dog. Dobermans Rock!

This is a great video. I have lived with both male and female Dobermans and most of what you have outlined is 100% accurate. My female was like my personal protection dog that was very loving and aware of my feelings. My male was also very loving and playful but was more of a property protector than a person protection dog. Both passed away at 13 years of age but I will never forget the joy that they brought to my life.

@@TiberiusStorm small dogs don't act like this because of the small dog syndrome/napoleon syndrome. That's a myth. Most small dogs are just super insecure which leaves them with two options: FIGHT OR FLIGHT I can understand them. Being so small the world can be pretty scary so they act "tough" because other animals tend to attack/dominate unstable dogs. Just sayin' 😅 My dog is a rescue and got treated bad in his previous life. He was always scared of people but he loved dogs. Since he got bit by a big dog he is scared of them. He never ever barks but since he got bit he barks at big dogs just to tell them they shouldn't come near him.

Have had four females over the years. It is a great breed, so loving and intelligent. My second female Doberman was 115 pounds of muscle. I only had her for five years she died from bone cancer, I still miss her.

I have 4 females. My one female, Lacey, is obsessed with me she is always by my side. Always sitting right beside me when I sit down. I grew up with my family Doberman, Xóchitl, who was female. She was so majestic and intelligent it was crazy when I would compare her to my friends’ dogs. She was so clean and gentle, I remember I she would be let out and chose to walk on the stones of our yard in order to not get her paws dirty. It’s very true that she would chose to do comands her own way. She was an amazing dog, I miss her so very much.

I had a dobbie since my childhood, and yes she was female, home trained, everyone were scared of her, mostly our neighbors, she was very caring protective and loyal, even when I was child and I liked to make her angry but she would never hurt me or bite me, she could play with me all the time in our back yard, I would spend all day by her side, running and fooling around, by that time it was really hard for me to make friends with children my age, she was my only friend, she protected me from anyone even from my family :D she wouldn’t let them touch me and etc. only bad thing about this breed is that they die very early, when she was 7-8 years old she became very thin you could even count her bones and she couldn’t even walk by herself, we tried everything to save her life but after few months she died. We buried her in our backyard and I remember I would bring her flowers and her favorite toys everyday, she was our family member, and Yes so many years passed I stills miss her and I still love her so much

From my own personal experience this is a pretty accurate list. Like the video mentioned, every dog is different but overall this is very good. I have owned male and female Dobermans and have done Schutzhund work as well. I love the strength of the males but overall I prefer the females without any hesitation. The females definitely bond more with one person but they are protective of the entire family and home. I have to stop here or else this will take up a whole page. Dobermans are the best all around dog you can ever own. A lot of people forget that they are one of the smartest breeds in the world as well.

Very interesting! My female was just as you described females to be, but this one had an extra touch of elegance, held her head high and her walk was more like a prance. She was 90 pounds, large for a female, but not at all heavy, just tall and elegant. She reminded me of a black deer sometimes, lithe and graceful. I couldn't take her anywhere without people stopping to oooh and ah over how beautiful she was. I will miss her til my dying day. Now I have a male, 100 pounds (I seem to attract large dogs, his littermates were all in the 75 pound range) and he is just as you describe, with definite velcro tendencies as well. He likes to run off and explore when off leash, but at home follows me from room to room. Mellow personality, loves everyone, a real sweetheart. There is an unfortunate stigma attached to Dobies and many people fear them, which can be a burden for their owners, but that is just something you deal with. I have had people who were terrified of the look of my dogs fall madly in love with them once they got to know them. Thanks for such an informative video.

I have owned a few Dobes...and have trained numerous Dobes, Sheps, etc...I will say the male and female are both great, but the sweetest dog I ever had was a male. Also, many males have what is known as male aggression. Not all of them but some. That is an issue you need to think about since Dobermans can be explosive and very powerful. Both make good guard dogs, but once they mature, males will become more intense than the females who stay steady once they mature. Younger males are harder to keep to task than females, but when older that energy is what makes the male a master at personal protection (IMO the male Doberman and male B. Malinois are tops). Males are somewhat stronger than the females too, but both a very strong. That hyperactive nature for young males is actually what makes the male Dobe like a coiled spring when older. This was intentional and part of the reason Otto Grueller (Dobermann's protoge) insisted on refining the breed with the black Greyhound. Both are great, and I have seen both do outstanding guard dog work and bond with kids. Both male and female.

Stuart H If you’re up for getting both I say a definite yes lol. My family has 1 of each & they are the most gentle, loving, protective & Loyal dog you’ll ever come across. My boy is three and we’ve Had him since he was 4 weeks old, actually had to bottle feed him, as He was not weaned yet. And we got our beautiful female when she was five weeks old. I helped take care of them both but I essentially raised Gunner so he’s incredibly attached to me & is extremely clingy but he’s a good dog. Daisy girl is definitely the alpha of the pack & she’s extremely sweet, calm & very attentive to your needs. With her we’re extremely lucky that we got to her when we did, another 24 hrs & the vet told us she wouldn’t have made it; She got extremely sick and dehydrated she was full of parasites and worms. My mom I stayed up all night with her it was so awful; she was so small & skinny at the time that I was actually able to hold her and put inside my sweater that I was wearing & zip it up all the way. All she did all night was scream in pain But it was worth it because she’s an amazing dog and a nanny to my two yr old sis, puts up with all the things that toddlers do. I’m so blessed to have both of them in my life and never a doll moment with them around that’s for sure I believe that what happened to Daisy as a pup shaped her personality & made her the dog she is today. Also if u don’t mind me saying I would get a male & female because in mine & my family’s experience we had another female dove At the same time we had daisy and all they did was fight. Apparently it’s not uncommon among some breedsfor two dogs of the same gender to fight, it’s common with dobies at least; we ended up giving the other female away. But you’ll be getting a protector and best friend for the rest of your life , I can assure you of that.😊

The female view is bang on. Omg! Our female does all those traits and it's no joke when the female Doberman will be more cautious around strangers. Shell literally bark like crazy until being told it's fine. If we're upset, shell sit by you or follow you around, and yes. She's more attached to a particular person in the family along with many other traits mentioned.

I’m a young teen and Desmo is my first doberman. Me and my dad drove 13 hours to Colorado to adopt him at 3 1/2 months old. It was a long hot drive but so worth it! We wanted to get a female but we ended up with a male. I’m so glad we did, he’s the sweetest and silliest little guy ever. He also has a black mask and I love how it distinguishes him from other Dobies. He’s a year and a half now, he has some health issues but is getting through them! I love him with all my heart

We've had 2 females and 2 males. Our first female died from DCM at 7 and the second one died of cancer at 8. Both boys lived to be 13. Our females were so intuitive and listened and understood. They barely needed any training at all. We put a leash on them from day one they never pulled they had that show dog trot. They never went through an open door or gate unless we said okay. My 2 males? Not so easy LOL I loved them all equally. The last one we laid to rest a year ago and he was a rescue, we got him as an adult and he was amazing and more loving than the 3 we brought home as puppies from breeders. He was a bit more naughty, but in a good fun way.

My Cinnamon, a red female, was the perfect Doberman. I had her for her entire life until her hip dysplasia got so bad. She lived 16 years which is a long life for a female Dob. I tallied it one time, and she knew 200 give or less English words. Smart as heck!

Yes very accurate general sum up. My dad had a female Dobey when i was little. Later on i had a male when i was a teenager. This male Dobey was my best ever, all the traits that is mentioned here. I had to use a bicycle for daily runs bcos Dobeys gallop fast like horses!!! 3-4 decades hav passed and i still miss my Dobey. May i meet him again, somday, afterlife?? I've owned 8 dobermans in my life. I prefer females by quite a bit. Your assessment is dead on. Training is much easier. The males are much more trouble. Also the females are far more devoted to the owner in my opinion. I still loved the males but what a pain they were.

yeah, love my female, but my male is my first, husband wanted us to get one. I was like, no way in hell. So, I wanted a boxer, grew up down the street from a cop that had high fence with 4 that worked for a large city. As a little kid, we were told, dont go up to that fence, they will bite your fingers off. Probably true, these dobermans had a specific job, they were not pets. But, that gave me a lasting impression. I caved in, I new it was going to go bad, I said, OK but your gonna get me a trainer 2 times a week, your not going to be gone on a train, and I am here and cant handle this over 100lb doberman. He did, I went, my male at 9 weeks old trained like a dream, like he already new, but was holding back to make me feel better. My trainer is a retired serviceman who trained IUD dogs during dessert operations. He told me , do you know what kind of doberman this is? um a doberman. No, order his pedigree. He is championship bloodline. That doesn't really matter, except I breed because I research and test, but my male doberman St. Roch ( patron saint of dogs)) hangs on my every word, not yelling but the change of my tone for him chewing up my pot holders, he cant handle it, but sticks to me like glue, and we walk at night, Never misses a thing, and I am what his world revolves around. No greater love, his or mine between doberman and human.

He is a european male, just a fantastic dog. He was that goofy, playful dog right up until this bad hand was dealt to him. It was about a month ago him and I chased a pack of coyotes off our property. Words cannot describe the love I have for this dog. One day I will get another, but for now, I'm giving every free second I have to my Vader "machine" until the puppy god calls him to puppy heaven. I would absolutely do a combination of each list, for my female Doberwoman. :) My female is the size of a male. I told the breeder I’d like a female and he sent me photos of both to show me that the females are going to be big. She weighs 90 lbs. Very tall - She is sleek and gorgeous. When walking in public, she attracts crowds! She is handsome, she is so beautiful, so I have a PINK martingale on her so people know she’s a female. People just die when they ask and I have to tell them, Yes, we had her fixed. Even the professional training place we went to asked if we were going to breed her. She is brilliant and this is why I am commenting for fun: She is unbelievably feminine! She is a girly dog! We have always had multiple dogs on our ranch. Several breeds and mixes. We have males mostly, but always have a female in the crowd. I wouldn’t describe any of the females in my experience as “feminine”. Phoebe is clearly feminine and we first noticed when she fell in love with our Bull Mastiff, Rufus, on sight of him. I have pictures of her leaning into his arms (front legs) as he lay on the grass and she just looking up at him adoringly! When our Great Pyrenees gets kind of tired of her, he will get grumpy and growly and she just does a high-pitched cry and whine! She’ll fall and roll on her back in front of him while doing so! We just stand shocked at this real male/female dog interaction. She is very dependent and a velcro dog for sure. She has to be with me. On top of me. Touching me. Her foot on my foot. Leaning on me. She wants ME. I am her person. She would rather be with me than another dog. You have to know this before you get a dobie. You can’t leave a dobie all day. I work from home. I workout in a home gym. I knew that until I could base myself at home, we couldn’t get a dobie. Please be aware of how people - oriented they are. Their people. You don’t throw a dobie in a backyard and leave them. (Or any animal right?) They are just too smart and aware. You put a dobie on an obstacle course! They love to run and have as much or more endurance than any dog you’ll ever own. After 5 miles of powerwalking, a dobie is going to look at you like, that’s all? Really? We play two-fisted frisbee, two-fisted anything - ready to throw when she comes back because SHE has more energy than you can imagine. And finally, when you are prepared for this relationship know that you will never be loved, like you’ll be loved by a Doberman Pinscher. I say this as someone who has had all breeds - small and large - for many years and a grandfather who was a veterinarian. ❤️

I used to have 3 Dobermans. 1 male and 2 females. Our females were truly great dogs and they loved our children so much and protected them also when need be. Our male actually ended up attacking our late son and almost killed him and the only reason he wasn’t able to reach his neck was because my female attacked him which gave enough time for my son to crawl away. Our Vet put him down because we knew he could never be trusted again but he said something had changed in his eyes, it was like he snapped and none of us could figure out how or why he did what he did. I love dobies but will never recommend any family having one with any small children. Our son was only 8 when our male attacked him and it still to this day makes zero sense. We had been playing catch outside with him for an hour or so and my home phone rang so I told my son I’d be right back, next thing I hear is him screaming and as I made it to my back door my baby boy was crawling covered in blood. Zeus bit his chest and his head open and luckily when he was trying to go for our sons throat my Sasha attacked Zeus and saved our sons life. Zeus was 2 1/2 years old and had been with us since 6weeks of age. Please be thoughtful when making a decision to get a breed like this, they are big and can cause damage fast. It doesn’t mean they will, but it does and can happen. Luckily our females never did anything like this.

My parents bred Dobermans in the 70's, so I grew up with them. My female was overly protective of children. We had a neighbor that was visiting with my Dad and he brought his kids with him. My father told him not to hit or raise his voice to a child in front of my dog. The neighbor didn't listen and swatted one of his kids on the butt and my female sank her teeth into his butt. She had never seen those kids before that day, but she still protected them.

I would like to recommend a book titled "What The Dog Knows" by Cat Warren. I see in the comments about some male dogs are very playful and "goof around" "not be serious" but sometimes they are trying to communicate their extreme talent they have and would like to offer it up to the world. This is a wonderful read for dog owners.

Great video. Both are really great. I have a Male, friends of mine have both, all are great loving companions. I do find that the females are a little more calmer and stoic when meeting a new person the owner is comfortable with. They seems to be very alert and present. They will not get distracted and run off to check something out if you are near the human they bond with. Still, awesome dogs no matter which one you choose.

Totally agree, both are just great dogs! Yeah, I think that has to do with how goofy and fun loving the males are. They're just looking for their next play partner! Haha.

This was spot on! I grew up with dobes and I love them. My mom was a professional handler and bred and showed dobes my whole life. I love the disclaimer you put at the end. I think people also need to realize that dobes need to be well socialized from a very young age. Dobes that don't get adequate socializing and exposure to the world are hard to train and tend to keep most of these traits to themselves or with just 1 or 2 humans.

This is so accurate! I’ve never had a female Doberman but male is so so needy. It took him so long to mature too. I’d say around age 6 he started to mature and calm down more. He’s almost 9 and still acts super young and playful. He’s super clumsy too. He’s quite messy and also loves other animals.

I honestly love this channel. I came across a pure bred Dobie puppy at a pound near me and I nabbed him up quick without really understanding the breed. He was a pain as a puppy but has become such an amazing dog. This channel has shown me SO MUCH!!!

Aww! I love dobies! Had a neighbor with a male doberman, and that dog is what convinced me to have dogs for the past 20 years. I never had a doberman, but they're beautiful animals. The doberman I knew saved us from a neighborhood stalker, scared that guy so bad, looked like he crapped himself. This dobie had a sense of humor too, a real clown. He knew he was "scary," would walk around "smiling" with his teeth showing and snorting like he was laughing. His owner hooked me up with an awesome golden retriever in need of a new home. Been a "dog person" ever since thanks to a doberman.

The male does like my other males have done in the past, rolls around in our blankets or laundry with great gusto, snorting and making "grr" noises. My female doesn't do this. She's the first female dog I've had, so I wonder... is this behavior mainly a male dog thing?

When my daughter was born, I was just a proud parent. The fact she was a girl-child hasn't made any difference to, had she been a son. Same applies to Cherrie, the doberman I got as a pup. Why a doberman? Because, I was scared of them and I wanted to conquer my fear. Night one, she climbed onto my bed, I couldn't move and woke to fearsome snarling teeth a foot from my face. I popped and ordered her off the bed, more by tone than words, she was untrained. In less than 24 hours I was free of my fears and had a beautiful dog to boot. The brown patches, do truly look like their eyes in the dark. I loved that dobbie and she was a loyal protector to the family and friend of note. In shame I admit to being young and DUMB! She'd done something wrong and my temper had risen, I chased her no matter where she hid, beating her with a broom stick. SICK! Dog with a bone, I did not give up. Guiltily I voice my remorse for that loving funny dog. I hurt her, I realised soon after and have lived with regret for my behaviour for many years. Learn from this stupidity, a friend, as intelligent as a doberman doesn't need capital punishment. It harms their spine, that they live with agony - their loving master breaks more than just their spirit, as they age, their weakened backs will eventually give in. What a fool I was. A rebuking word brings more shame to them than a hiding. Cherrie, lived long and eventually moved to a family on a farm with orphaned kids, as I couldn't look after, later. Perhaps, this is why I always reasoned with my daughter, I never felt anything she did was worthy of a hiding. So I did learn from my dog. Sorry and thank you mon Cherrie! Tears aside, whilst Cherrie was at my parents, Mom and her formed a bond so strong. She loved us all Dad and Harriet, our maid included. One day Mom collapsed. Harriet, phoned Dad to report this, he asked 2 Deacons of the Church to get there quickly, he had a long way to go. I arrived home to find the 4 on the verge outside. Dad asked me to help, saying Cherrie was with her and wouldn't let 1 of them near her or in the yard. Dad's own yard, he got barred. Now that's protection! She stood and bared her teeth but backed away as I came to Mom, then came close to smell and nuzzle Mom as I began lifting her head. Only as she recovered did she allow others in. You know what? If she'd been a he, it wouldn't have made a pith of difference. A male would have looked over my Mom just the same. Or so I, believe. I came across a yard with two dobbies in it, they charged me. Knowing their general character, down this long drive, I charged at them, charging at me. Just before their spring distance, I slid into a kneel, holding my hands out. They stopped on a dime, looked at each other and slowly walked up, smelt my hands and allowed my petting. They would've torn another trespasser to pieces. My Cherrie did teach me a lot of things. I'm a better person for her. I think of her often and miss her so much. But she would've died happy with all that yard and kids to play in & with. Bye mon Cherrie. Always be kind to anything and everyone. The reward is better than the guilt you feel for being dumb!

I had both male and female my last Doberman was a female and she my daughter she was easy to train very lovable I trained her with sign language and body movement and facial expression very easy to get along with family members and others but when she did not trust you she kept an eye on you and that includes a family member. I miss her so much and I'm searching for a female to fill my void in my heart and my life thank you I follow you because you give good evaluations on the Doberman Pinscher which is a awesome family member
