I did this with Nugget a few months back. He'll be 9 months old on 7/8. He was OK for the most part but when the other dogs took notice of him he tucked his tail, wined and ran. Hid under a bench a couple of women were sitting on in a shelter. I had to leash him and keep him close to me to keep him comfortable. He did the velcro thing mostly, staying close off leash but when he ventured out a little was when the other dogs noticed him more and that's when the tail tuck/chase began. Dog parks have been closed for the last several months in this area so we haven't had a change to go back but we are going to have to work on this more. Of course, he's much bigger now so I'll have to be very watchful to make sure he doesn't get aggressive next time. Fear and aggression are linked... He's much bigger and stronger now, capable of much more, tho he's a sweet pup generally. This virus thing is really handicapping our efforts on this front.

@@DobermanPlanet I'm 33 years old. I've had two Dobermans in my lifetime So far. The first my parents owned as a kid that got me hooked on the breed ever since. My second Doberman was the first I owned. I really don't like to compare but the second Doberman was by far... words can't describe. She was just the best dog I ever had overall. I'm looking forward to getting European Doberman for my third soon. I know it takes a lot of research. But I do have one question. are European Doberman's overall more healthier and longer lifespan then the American Doberman's? I have no real preference. But it's just that both died of heart attacks around 9-11 years of age. They were both American Dobermans.

Good job Arlo!!!! Great advise. Three other dogs bit my Doberman early on. So, he did way better with humans than other dogs. He is 2 years old now and does great with other dogs and most importantly other humans. Socialize socialize socialize. People are terrified of Dobermans so it is my mission for people to be around my Moses as often as possible to witness what a wonderful breed the Doberman is today.

That's a great method! Something I do to ensure a good dog park experience is to exercise before. The dog park is a mile away from my house so we usually jog there and back. Since my dogs are small they get tired from that jog and after a drink and laying in the grass, they immedietly start doing zoomies around with their buddies. No problems so far.

I really liked how you broke that down! I've been subscribed to your channel for a while now and was in the same boat as you were regarding Boxer/Doberman and went with the Boxer option. Sadly our Boxer passed away at 3.5 years due to a serious medical complication. We're now looking at Dobermans and your content is fantastic! But the main reason for commenting is our Boxer had a friend (an older male Boxer) at the dog park and one day this dog kept harassing our Boxer puppy until the older Boxer came over and did the Boxer pound into the side of the aggressor and the dog never bothered our puppy again.

Love your page !, First time dog owner first time commenter here , i was highly encouraged to get my Doberman pup because of your content. Watching this video makes me feel you should make another all about social interaction encounter “what ifs”, such as what a dog owner should do if there is an overly aggressive/excited dog at the park , or like if there is a negligent owner there letting their dog do whatever they want, a dog who is trying to mount your dog, or maybe a child who’s being too invasive and the parents aren’t doing anything. How to handle these situations with the dogs , and with the owners. I think owner interaction would be a great topic too. Thanks in advance!

Absolutely, socialize your dogs! We visit the dog park at least once a day! Even if for just 10 minutes. There's a different dynamic every single time we go down there. Find your dog's boundaries and know what triggers them and how to displace aggressive behavior. And keep in mind some people are just there to let their dog run around and don't work with them (or sit on their phone). If my dog gets rushed at the gate we just stay outside the gate until the owners of the dogs rushing over get their dog back (pay attention, owners). Then she runs in. After that if anyone tries to put paws on her she may show her teeth but still wants to run in and acclimate. After the first doodie, she wants to play. *Business first, then play!💩🙊

I had a really bad experience with a dog park. My Weimaraner Girl was half a year old and we were about to meet with a golden retriever from our dog school. There was this horribly smelling lady with her three dogs, who told us to go away (it was a public dog park, usually quite deserted). Our dogs were still in the middle of playing and we didn’t really want to leave. It was a public dog park after all. She, then as a response to our inactivity, took the leash of and her super aggressive Terrier launched at the golden retriever and then went after my girl. The terrier got my dogs ear between his fangs. The golden went after the terrier right after that and the terrier returned back to his owner. My dog wasn’t bleeding but the fur on her ear was no more. We obviously called the police, but not much happened after that because my dog wasn’t “injured”, but they did take her dog away as she was a fostermom and an incident like that had to be reported to the organisation that took care of the dogs that had to be rehomed.
