I’m so glad that you’ve discovered this absolute gem of a song! It got a lot of airplay back in the day. It’s hard to put into words how it makes me feel. It’s calming, soothing, uplifting? I’m not sure that’s the right word but this song really hits deep. Even as a kid I knew it was special.

This song is one of the reasons that, at 73, I'm learning guitar! Loved it ever since the song came out....still do.

Timeless! This might be remastered (like from analog to digital, that sort of thing), but it sounds pretty close to what I remember hearing. For whatever reason, this song in my mind is twinned with Otis Redding's "The Dock of the Bay." Both just beautiful, classic songs.

It was written by someone else, no one else wanted to give it a ride until Dobie. Uncle Kracker does a credible cover, with Dobie joining in at the end.

I'm sure the tasty guitar licks were inspired by Steve "The Colonel" Cropper's style. He played guitar for some of the Soul/R&B greats, as well as The Blues Brothers. 🤙😎

I agree that it's basically country r&b/country fried rock. The audio sounds like a remaster, maybe even 64-bit. It's perfection and never gets old.

This album was recorded in a pretty well-known Nashville studio that was founded by two session players. Dobie was probably backed by a group of session musicians which is why it sounds so good. And he has a fantastic voice.

Okay now. I may or may not have had a crush on Dobie 😉 The more current singer Uncle Kracker covered this song back in the early 2000's. His video has Dobie making a guest appearance. Also, if you want to hear a fun country sounding song with Uncle Kracker, he released a song called "Smile".

Dough Be Gray Was what we called back in the day.A one hit wonder but a very good hit all the same. If you notice I spelled his name the way it sounds if you pronounce those words.

I'm an old white man telling you this so know it's the truth. There is a lot of older people white people like me wanting you to do old rock.Nothing wrong with that I will ask you too great music but remember the great older r and b as a matter of fact I am going to request anything from Diana Ross and the supremes.Glad you did this masterpiece

Narvel Felts did have a country version of this song in 1973. I didn't like country music back then so I just remember wondering why he wanted to mess up a great song by changing the lyrics to "country song" instead of "rock and roll".

Not really rock nor country, pure pop , when pop music was actually decent, grew up to this song often being played in the background
