Please send the video to Harley Davidson and ask them to include it in the Sales and Service training schools. With this information it should help eliminate future arguments and claims. I think we can all agree the most frustrating statement is “it’s not covered under warranty”.

Love these, you 2 should do this more often, Doc touched on it but as the Former Warranty Admin at Low Country HD , even before the EPA and FTC got involved Customers need to be aware Harley-Davidson May not cover parts that have had Aftermarket parts Attached to them, Doc mentioned the Aftermarket pipes damaging head bolts and harley most likely would not cover that. A Friend of mine i warned him about changing up his sound system, he changed from the stock speakers to a high-end speaker system, but the oms were different, and it damaged the harley radio and harley wouldn't cover it, I'm Now Part time in the Independent shop world i manage a friends shop when he needs to be elsewhere, and i still run into it all the time, i tell my customers with new Harleys that are dying to do something crazy to wait till their warranty is up.........And that includes ESP !! But Kevin is right they can still do anything they want, if the warranty for the powertrain or whatever area you plan to attach aftermarket parts doesn't matter to you GO FOR IT !! and please tell people Harley does NOT Cover the Aftermarket parts, you put on V&H pipes and they fail the FTC ruling doesn't mean harley has to cover the V&H pipes, or install Andrews Cams and they Fail and take some harley parts with them.......Not Covered.

I have allot of accessories on my 2018 Street Glide Special. None of which is engine or exhaust related. I have 53,000 plus miles of smiles on her. I’m out of warranty. I had one of my Harley dealerships mechanic say to me,”Your Harley is probably the tightest Harley with this many miles on it in such great condition that I’m glad you haven’t messed with the engine. That made an impression with me. Now to each their own but quite frankly I think I’ll keep my Harley the way it came from the factory. A Harley is a blank canvas and I’m happy with the picture I painted.

Thanks guys, you're a super duo. My issue on this topic isn't necessarily with H-D because their hands are tied by EPA rulings (I say "necessarily" because the suits in the boardroom won't mind having more warranties voided...) The concern for me is a much broader one about how undemocratic the rise in regulation seems to be. The notions of choice and personal freedom are quickly becoming more relevant and meaningful to those working in marketing than they are to the average consumer.

@LowCountryHarleyDavidson2 жыл бұрын
Issues! Each stage offered for your bike has been tested by HD. When you apply a performance stage that was not intended for the Three wheeler you are taking responsibility for issues that have not been designed for the daily rider. Mainly heat and longevity. This is why it took so long for HD to release the CVO trike with more performances….Doc

I would ask more questions. If this is a package they have tested then you have to make the decision of trust….Doc
@est.19702 жыл бұрын
There is no way the SE tuner is going to give you the tune you need with the Woods XE cam or any good camshaft. With the setup you have and adding the XE cam you're going to have to go to a Power Vision Tuner, or better yet, take the bike to a professional and have it Dyno Tuned. But, this will void your H-D warranty. If you want to retain your warranty, then take a look at the H-D Torque or Horsepower cams which will work with the SE Tuner, giving you decent results. Also, if you're going to do a cam consider decating the exhaust or going to a full system; again with a proper tuner/dyno.

People like to customize their bikes. I do understand that Harley wants to make sure that after market parts can affect the performance, it could also damage the motorcycles. But I think most of the complaints are about using alternative dealerships besides the Harley-Davidson dealerships that can install aftermarket parts without damaging a motorcycles at all with well certified mechanics with the right equipment to perform the work. Just like private automobile mechanics and automotive dealerships. You can save a lot of money besides using the Harley-Davidson dealerships not just for aftermarket parts but just doing work on the bikes. Something simple like getting an oil change at the Harley dealership.$$$
@mikekellam365cid2 жыл бұрын
What too many riders don't understand is that because you only have TWO cylinders, there isn't the opportunity that you have with a 4, 6 or 8 cylinder engines, be they bike, trikes, cars, planes, trains, etc. The more "cylinders" you have, the more opportunity you have to improve the "emissions performance" of a given motor. Given the "Motor Company's" ability or inability to properly machine components to repeatable and specific tolerances, it becomes EXTREMELY difficult to bump the power and stay within EPA emissions limits.. The nice thing: EPA limits are set for a specific "longevity" of time based on wear limits and hours run on any ICE motor. Beyond that, which is usually after the warranty expires, the field is wide open. It becomes more at that point, how much money is in your pocket to make repairs?

Doesn’t seem like this should be a big issue. As the owner you shouldn’t worry about the warranty if your not using Harley parts. If the warranty is such a big deal wait until the warranty runs out or expect to not have a warranty??
@josephzieroff26312 жыл бұрын
Harley has its responsibility. And so does the OWNER of the bike. If you mix in aftermarket parts on your build you should deal with it instead of Harley. It seems to me it has always been that way.

I don’t really understand what the issue is: This has been this deal for YEARS since 01 when the original Magnetti Marelli Fuel Injection system came out and every engine since: If you want your warranty, you don’t mess with it and if you do mess with it, you put parts on that the dealership will warranty. I swear half the people have never ridden a shovelhead. These new M8’s or the Twin Cam’s even have more torque, more Hp and better reliability than any motor and bike the MOCO has ever produced. You know the deal if you want to mess with it. I ride a hopped up EVO on a 1990 FXR that pushes 90/90 on the dyno and if I was ever going to spend what HD wants for a MC these days, I’d be damn sure to get my warranty out of it. Everyone wants to change the exhaust and intake since the EPA got involved years ago. Tuner, Cams, Heads… It’s what we do. And you absolutely have the right to do that and more but you’ll be at an independent shop with no warranty and that’s ALWAYS been the case. HD makes some amazing motorcycles compared to the AMF days and my first bike (a 1982 FXRS Shovel. The older I get (I’m 40 btw lol) the more I want stock and reliable. Like the old saying “you gotta pay to play.” Great video guys. :)

@@LowCountryHarleyDavidson 😆 I own a 20 year old FatBoy TC that I only modded with pipes, air, and richer jet. Been a great ride since, and only “engine” work done in last few was at a mom and pop dealership which did the adjuster shoes, bearings, and updated plate with oil pump. Tech said my cams had no wear at all and only suggested a few minor part swaps since he was in there. Fuel and the three fluid changes every year has kept it running great. The rest is regular maintenance items, battery, tires, brakes, etc. No computers to hook up, no tuning, just enjoying the ride. Doc, love your videos. @@LowCountryHarleyDavidson Haha the is the most diplomatic response ever. Obviously there is a place for new bikes too ;) It would seem that Harley is in a especially difficult position as it's fairly easy to make a change that would have a air-cooled motor running lean and that's creating excess heat.

There’s a statement. We as a dealership should be able to call up an independent shop and work together with Harley Davidson because it’s all about the customer. How much bull shit is that.
