The Doctor was such a good friend to Seven - he really tried to help her fit in with the crew, and even used his own mistakes to help guide her.

I was just watching this on Netflix last night. A charming scene. This is why I love Star Trek. You couldn't get away with something like this in a Star Wars movie. Don't get me wrong, my inner child still loves Star Wars. But Star Wars takes itself too seriously. Star Trek (GOOD Star Trek that is) knows what it is: a hokey daytime sci-fi serial. While much of Star Trek is ambitious and epic, I much prefer the lighter, softer side of Star Trek, where the characters sit around the poker table razzing one another, or Quark complains about federation policy hindering his profits while he wipes down his bar. It just feels more real because of how casual it is. Just my thoughts.
@BeckettSong
@BeckettSong 10 жыл бұрын
That's probably because Star Wars is a series of six episodic films. Star Trek has a total of five TV series with an average of 6 episodes per season which means the writers/producers have a lot more imaginative space to explore(pardon the pun). The "space" that I'm referring to is the characters and their relationship with one another and how they react to the current situation, etc. In the Star Trek movies and Star Wars as well, the stories are much less complex than in all the episodes of each Trek series. They're much more direct and do not have as much character development. Can you imagine what the Padme/Annakin romance would've been like if Star Wars had been a TV series or the Han/Leia romance? Makes you think. ;-)
@imyouandurme
@imyouandurme 10 жыл бұрын
I agree. However, a typical season of Star Trek is actually more like 24 episodes long, but that even further solidifies your point. I used to be obsessed with movies, but lately I've become more fond of a good series, which (as you explained) explores a much broader scope of character and plot development. ComicBookGirl19 was just talking about this. In one of her latest videos, she argued that Ender's Game should have been made into a series, and further argued that Dune would make an excellent series if done by the right people, which I wholeheartedly agree with. The Dune saga on the small screen would be like Game of Thrones for us Sci-Fi nerds.
@BeckettSong
@BeckettSong 10 жыл бұрын
imyouandurme I made a typo. "6 episodes per season" was supposed to be 26 episodes per season". Well on average anyway.

I so agree with this! I think any series is always better with humor and fun even in dramatic series with darkness apart of them. It just makes more engaging television and honestly more entertaining than just boring, bleak straightforward stuff. Action without character is dull and stories without character development and strong relationships just stink imo. I love Voyager, TNG, TOS and DS9 because they have all that. Though even with movies I feel like First Contact, Wrath of Khan, Undiscovered Country are films that are glorious with character elationship development as any of the series had.

1:26 - Jeri Ryan admitted that many times the other actors made her laugh so much that she struggled during the two-shot scenes--she couldn't look at them in the eye. The picture is a bit blurry but it looks here like she's looking just to the left of Robert Picardo.

About a year ago, I was in a locally produced movie. I played a permanently drunk guy and in one scene, I'm really inappropriately hitting on a woman. On the first take, I gave her one of those big "sloppy drunk" winks, and she broke. After about take 8, we finally reblocked the scene slightly so it just looked like we were making eye contact, because when we did make eye contact, even though I didn't wink any more, she still kept laughing.

Today I started playing with Cortana's voice commands in Windows 10 and tried "sing for me". She sang some random song and it kinda reminded me of this scene from Voyager. I was like "Wait a second... hey Cortana, sing you are my sunshine". She started singing and I joined in just like the doctor. It was the first time I actually felt emotionally touched by an "AI".

Nine Divines well I mean, there’s no obvious busty gorgeous bombshell blondes in skintight catsuits in the new stuff but... I enjoyed discovery. Quite a bit actually. I’d dare to say that it is the Star Trek we need in the modern day era. Of course nothing can take away the nostalgia of voyager, ds9 and enterprise but, discovery is pretty damn good in its own right. Plus it’s v pretty to look at as a whole production whereas back then the only pretty thing to look at was seven of nine.

TOS had the goal to delve into the human spirit in a space-age format. They did a good job for a time that DEMANDED bare-knuckle fist fights. But Voyager did the goal with considerably less bare-knuckle fist fights. In other words, Voyager was what TOS set out to do. Enterprise was just bare-knuckle fist fights. The only time I got emotional was while watching the last episode because they needed much more character development.
