Dr. Russell Barkley is very skeptical of Amen’s claims regarding SPECT scans. I’m surprised you do not hedge when discussing the promise of SPECT scans for diagnosing ADHD. It does not appear you have any financial conflicts, so would appreciate why you do not feel the need to point out Amen’s claims have reasonable doubt levied against them.

I did have a longer discussion about pros and cons of SPECT scans filmed but felt that it made the video too long. Perhaps I should have included more of it here. But I can def include that discussion in future videos. Thanks for bringing it up Mark.

@@CodyRallMD I came across an article, long gone, that looked at the effects of brain-based images on expectation, regardless of any actual usefulness, and seemed like a bit of a super-placebo. In other words, you show someone an image of *their* brain and they are much more likely to believe that they have a particular brain-based disorder because "here it is". This is one reason to be sceptical about the Amen approach I think. Actually a lot of NFB marketing plays into this bias I think. I like my Mendi, sceptical that it would replace meds in severe cases of ADHD.

Hey Doc! Definitely love your earlier reply about looking into Training not treatment, opening up possibilities and without making health-related claims. Better approach, IMHO, is to release expectations, notice what happens and rather be on the lookout for subtle and seamless change and perhaps powerful changes over time… 🙏

I would suggest doing a deep dive into the connection between ADHD and MOLD SICKNESS, aka CIRS OR MCAS. Mold sickness is known to contract blood vessels, especially in the feet, hands, brain and eyes, in fact a visual acuity test is one of the diagnostic criteria used to determine the degree of mycotoxin exposure. It's a free test on line btw. I'm 72 year old male, and about two years ago was diagnosed with ADHD/ADD. Went on adderall for about six months, but quit due to side effects. I kept investigating however and have most all the symptoms of CIRS and mast cell activation syndrome. I have mold growing all over my house! Most doctors have not heard of these conditions and know very little of mold related illnesses. Check out neuroquant brain imaging mri, used to measure volume in various sections of the brain. It's being used by some in the cirs community.

Thanks Doc! Been using Mendi nearly consistently for a couple weeks now. The highest I ever scored was a 154% NA with 35,424 o2 points. Watched this and a few of your other Mendi videos, just did another session to try out the tips, and hit 3348% NA with 262,601 o2 points, which is crazy because all I could do this morning was 18% NA w 3,275 o2 points. Either its broken (lol) or those were some good tips. Appreciated!

Sometimes the calibration gets a little wonky. If the ball starts going crazy off the get-go, I stop the session and recalibrate. Then it seems to go smoother.
@SandersonRin
@SandersonRin Ай бұрын
@@CodyRallMD Oh yeah. The ball was going so crazy it went off and stayed off the screen or it switched directions so fast I couldn't even see it. All that was visible was a wall of technicolor flipping back and forth from the left and right side. However, the craziness didn't start till after a minute or so into the session on the high score one earlier. Also just did another session just after finishing lunch and had a similar experience. Hardly any score for the first few minutes, then the ball started bouncing in longer and longer strides in both directions till the same thing happened again where I couldn't even see the ball because it was off the screen again. It felt like my nerves in my arms and legs were tensing my muscles but my muscles were not physically tensing. Kind of like the signal was being sent to tense but no actual tensing was happening, at least not a way that ended with in clinched muscles. Got an NA of 1196% and 113,641 o2 from the latest session. Will be interesting to see what happens over the next week.

You need to do those specs on a standing MRI as I believe a lot of brain dysfunction is something structural ie causing loss of blood flow/ draining. Would be interesting to see different results from lying down and upright 😊

Would meditation with visualization be similar? Like imagining a ball and moving it purposely in your mind's eye?
@carolinekelly6056
@carolinekelly6056 Ай бұрын
Probably! When you meditate (insight meditation), you're re-training your focus. Every time you have that random thought pop up, you acknowledge it without judgement and let it go and refocus on [your breath]... You're practicing focus. People have been doing this for millennia without mendi. But I can see why we need something more (faster/easier to teach children) nowadays with the way screens have ruined our brains. Edited to fix grammar.

🎯 Key points for quick navigation: 00:56 *🧠 Mendy, a wearable neurofeedback device, targets blood flow in the prefrontal cortex to improve focus and attention in ADHD.* 02:59 *🚫 Mendy is not FDA approved for ADHD treatment in the US yet; cautious wording is needed to avoid overstating treatment efficacy.* 05:06 *💊 Studies suggest Mendy's technology, fNIR neurofeedback, can improve impulsivity and ADHD symptoms faster than EEG neurofeedback, but regulatory approval and funding for research remain challenges.* 08:19 *🏀 Neurofeedback training like Mendy offers potential long-term benefits for ADHD treatment compared to short-term relief from medications, but both medication and therapy can be effective in combination.* Made with HARPA AI

This kiddo did meditation and therapy alongside the device. Both of them have been very well studied to improve ADHD symptoms in kids and adults. What did this little device do that was more than those treatments? Can't be isolated how much of the difference made was purely because of MENDI Had they showed that the kid tried the regular meds free protocol vs meds free protocol with mendi and had that showed significant difference... I would take this more seriously Otherwise this thing is still not FDA approved and has no studies This is a startup doing a paid PR campaign with CNBC and using NASA's claims to boost credibility. In the video, what parents said about adderall not working has been covered up with what the narrator is saying. We have no way of knowing if CNBC was 100% truthful in reporting what those parents said or how much of CNBC's script was made up. This is a toy. Parents of kids with ADHD or Autism or both: Please do not get distracted by this shiny new device because NASA is using it. NASA can use a lots of things without testing. They're doing it on adults not kids. Their employees are not artists, they're engineers and astronauts. Wanting to cure your kids ADHD puts them at the risk of losing their core strengths. Please listen to Alex Partridge's podcast episodes to educate yourself. There are plenty of well studied and documented and effective non meds options for ADHD. Mendi's only claim to fame is a polished and well edited PR campaign. It's not studied. It's got no real proven merit other than paid endorsements. Which one would you rather spend on?
