Oscar or Doc......very different versions but a similar approach......Both brilliant and wonderful.

I concur with Nikolay - soooo close to Oscar Petersons best version of C Jam ever. Such a pleasure. PURE. PURE classic American music for the ages.

I have always thought Ray Bryant was great on C Jam Blues. His was a real blues touch.

I don’t know….I just don’t respond emotionally to it. Maybe it’s the hardware, the recording - but I went back and forth between this and Oscar P. ( and that’s cruel of anyone, my apologies!) and there’s less soul here - man, sorry - the skill level is astonishing. But to me, it’s Thomas Lang compared to Larnell Lewis; Lang is a human drum machine on steroids, and Larnell can tell you a story with his drums. I hope it’s helpful- express EMOTION when you sing through an instrument, the listeners want to hear YOUR heart and they respond when it touches theirs But MAN can Doc Watkins play - some players think of an event in their lives that matches the feel of the tune they’re playing - and you feel it when they play. I don’t pretend to understand it, sometimes I recognize it when it’s there There’s nothing like making music is there ?
