Dockland Light Railway [DLR] and Access Issues with 2 carriage trains

The withdrawal of three car trains on the Bank-Woolwich & Tower Gateway - Beckton [and other lines, some of the time] has seen a return to the bad old days of poor accessibility for many disabled people
Having spoken to the DLR management, it is clear they are not interested in sorting these access issues, leaving the DLR network very poorly resourced for people with a range of impairments
Many of the solutions to these issues are quite simple and cost efficient, for example audio and visual signage to indicate which part of the platforms are in use
Here are two common scenarios that now occur
#1 Being on the part of the platform no longer served by trains and with no information about which parts of the platform are not use - issues for disabled people unable to get to the train before it departs
#2 Audio announcement telling people move to the center of the platform to board, causing congestion in the center of the trains and preventing disabled people from boarding - pretty stupid, uh ?
I don't know why the DLR can't make these simple changes to make their services once again more accessible for disabled people and in line with what the rest of the TFL network has done

Thanks for your comment willingshelf and you are quite right, it would be nice to have a DLR transport system that was accessible for all users. I guess they just don't care. The last lot who held contract didn't care either and they were ousted. Maybe a lesson to learn there KeolisAmey Docklands? BTW, I have some willing shelves too, full books, discs etc

The good news about this is that when the new trains entering service next year, all of the current fleet should restore to 3 carriages indefinitely But yes running 2 car trains on the DLR is a very stupid decision and I am all in favour of having as much capacity as physically possible on the DLR

Yes, we can but hope about the 3 carriage restoration but until then we have DLR management totally unwilling even consider audio / visual information about what part of the platform is in use It should be the absolute minimum that do with regards to access - quote from one of my non-sighted clients 'the DLR is the least accessible part of the transport network for me' Says it all really They are running 3 cars off peak Stratford Int. to Woolwich - plenty of room on those trains - you could almost book your own carriage some of the time ! I hate the DLR. Since they withdrew some carriages I'm all at sixes and sevens running up and down the platform. On more than one occasion I've dropped my colostomy bag or got it trapped in the closing doors. Last week it burst like a popped balloon all over the commuters.

@@BigFScaryProductions I'm planning a wedding ceremony on the DLR. It will be a small intimate affair so we'll only need the 3 carriages. I'll need one carriage to take the battle-axe up the aisle, a carriage for the guests and a carriage for the buffet. I can't make up my mind which route to take. Where the train comes to the end of the line is where we'll have the honeymoon. Beckton, Lewisham, Woolwich Arse ... so many options. Stratford International sounds the most exotic.

what a lovely treat for your fiancé, you must be quite a catch ! Goodness, so many treasures, I like to think terminal stations are rather like being at 'the end of a rainbow', n'est pas? So let me see ..... Woolwich - a thing of wonder, a massive new erection going up at the site of the old lavs ...... Lewisham - endless opportunities at the nearby rail station, were you thinking of a trainspotting themed wedding ? However, for me [if I was lucky enough to be that blushing bride!], I would say forget Stratford International, the sun sets over the Asda superstore, at Beckton, are quite stunning Anyway, enough of me going on ! Where will you start your romantic frisson from ? The sidings at Poplar ? Goodness, that brings back memories and not all of them good !
