Watched film many times, a true classic. Worst day NHS was loss of Matron - care would be so much better with authority in the ward. Recent cases would not have occurred.

Having trained in the 80's , under the authority of Ward Matrons, I fully agree. We were trained to the highest standards , unlike the staff that qualify now. They think that, because they have a degree, they're better qualified but they know so little. And hold low standards of care. (In fact, many of us older nurses ALSO now have a degree!!) Most of my generation are now approaching Retirement age. ( which they keep moving back, until we'll be nursing geriatrics who are younger than we are 😂) THEN you'll see the truth of my words, sadly

The young women looked so beautiful and feminine in their nurses uniform. Now they are made to dress like garage mechanics .

As a Student nurse, then a new Staff nurse, I wore these uniforms. Smart but restrictive. Having to lift patients, and keep your dignity, was difficult to say the least. Today's uniform is less restrictive and allows safe mobility for the nurse

I’m 87 , married a Nurse in the Sixties as a lad I was always getting serious Injuries but the Doctor would call to the house and Mum would call a couple of Neighbours to hold me down on the Table while the Doctor Stitched up the Gashes 3” long with No Anaesthetics with Nylon Cat Gut .
