Join me on a 26-hour call shift as a junior doctor! Learn what doctors do all day, emergencies we run to and the constant struggle to find time to eat!
For the first time, I will show you what it's like to answer pages and the types of issues we encounter. My first priority has to be patient confidentiality, but I will try to share some stories with you today including a "code blue"!
COMMENT below to let me know what you think and LIKE the video if you want to see more like this!
Subscribe so you don't miss any of my experiences as a new medicine resident!

You talk to your nurses so respectfully! For some reason, I always thought that doctors would be bossy or have that “I’m better than you” attitude towards their nurses since they’re the doctors.. but nurses are the backbone of the medical field. You seem like the sweetest doctor!! Also don’t understand how you look so good after your shift 😂

Why do they let doctors work 24 hour shift? Isn't that dangerous just because you are tired etc. - why wouldn't they just have day shift and night shift? Just wondering :) love these vlogs!

Probably because it's not easy to become a doctor but there's a huge need for doctors. Probably some sort of supply and demand issue while the demand is rather serious
@aasldkfja

The doctor on shift learns the patients well enough to give a meaningful report to incoming teams. It also circumvents the tendency of shift work to encourage avoidance behaviors. If you know you can kick the can to the next shift because you get off soon you're less inclined to take responsibility for your shift. The long shifts encourage responsibility. It also gives the doctors that are at home more rest, study time, r&r, etc.

Does internal medicine doctor have sub specialties such as endocrinology,cardiology, etc?
@ViolinMD
@ViolinMD 7 жыл бұрын
Great question! So you can choose to specialize in internal medicine itself (seeing complex patients in the hospital or in clinic, diagnosing and treating) or you can go on to subspecialize. Either way, as a sub specialist you have the option to work in internal medicine as well!

I am 15 years old and I am planning on becoming a doctor and going to medical school. You are such an inspiration and I’m so glad that you’re giving us insight on how medical school and residency works so I’ll know what I’m getting myself into in the coming years if things don’t change. You are super nice and sweet, and when you have a lot to do and it gets stressful you stay calm and you handle it professionally. A lot of people think that it’s all fun and games and whatnot, but it’s not just all fun and games. It’s lives at our hands and can be emotionally, physically, and mentally challenging sometimes. But, enough with my rant. Thank you for these vlogs and videos and keep up the good work! 👍🏽

Out of all the amazing things Doctors can do....having to wake up on call is the one thing that amazes me. Question: what happens if a doctor falls asleep while on call? If it ever happens that is
@ViolinMD

Hi Yelisbet! haha yeah it can feel like a real shock sometimes! If you get a chance to sleep overnight it's definitely encouraged, but sometimes that's only for 20mins or so.... I'm someone who loves watching grey's anatomy but I know working as a resident or attending isn't always that dramatic, so I love to see a real life experience of what it's like to work as a doctor! Keep up the amazing work you do and thank you for giving us a glimpse at how you guys do your job! It's so cool! Subscribed ❤️

Great vlog! Wondering if you ever get asked by patients if you prescribe compounded medications.

Great vlog! I just started watching you. I just wanted to suggest maybe cutting back on the constant low volume background music? Some music of course adds to the vlog, but I don't think there needs to be a steady stream. Just my opinion - take it or leave it! Have a great day!
