Based on your "dubstep is a loudness war" concept, do you think Marauda/Trampa/Tearout will kind of take over?
@ManicMiner64 жыл бұрын
I actually really liked some of the tracks in this album, just as detached from the "concept" of the album itself anyway. I think half of this album doesn't work for me but the other half, mostly the more heavy and melodic side is really good as just singles for me. (I was kind of taken back by how much you disliked the album but I've only heard it once, at face value) my favourite definitely being his tribute drum and bass track, but that Franky nuts collab is a very closer runner up. May have to give this album a listen again in comparison to part 1 to see exactly what you mean, I do understand what you mean about the "trends" of dubstep he's gone for now that you bring them up unfortunately^^

It just sounds like old dubstep to me lol. Would’ve been a classic in 2010 or earlier but now that sound design has been stepped up with space bass and tribal trap with labels like wakaan and gravitas. This kind of dubstep is just boring as hell

Franky Nuts carried that collab imo. I think he's one of the more creative minds of melodic dubstep/Trap.

Yeah, this is just a disappointment. A BIG one. I can't really believe that this is the same Doctor P as all those years ago, everything that I loved about old school Doctor P just isn't here. Some of this stuff could be made by literally anyone. The entire thing is a slog through monotony with only the briefest spots of interest, Give it Up and Back Where I Started are okay, everything else ranges from mediocre to really poor... It's pretty obvious that most of these appeal to the live setting (like too much dubstep is nowadays), and I don't even find it that heavy or impactful. Overall it just feels like it exists to exist, no passion in it.

The good old days when we would listen to First of the Year by Skrillex. The good old days when I can't Stop by Flux Pavilion would be blaring everywhere. The good old days when wobbles were cool, and Dubstep producers seemed to like making the music they were doing. Fast forward, it's 2021, and you don't hear those tracks anymore. First of the Year is a thing of the past, remembered only as an iconic track from Skrillex, and I Can't Stop remembered as an iconic track from Flux Pavilion, and now we're at a time where all Dubstep producers worry about is how heavy their track is. The creativity has gone out the window, gotten on board a rocket ship, and has left the plannet Earth far behind, and all you hear is Briddim, Riddim, and more Briddim. Now, the Dubstep producers who once enjoyed the music they were making no longer seem to. All they think when making a new song is, "I gotta make this as heavy and as loud as seemingly possible, or the crowds won't like it." And perhaps it's not the producers' fault, it's probably that the people listening to Dubstep as it is made now like it, and so the Dubstep producers feel almost forced to make loud Dubstep. Sure, the sounds are cool, but at the end of the day, we've already heard it before. It's sad people don't listen to First of the Year, Right In, Bangarang, I Can't Stop, Gold Love, Let’s Get it, Do or Die, etc anymore, and instead go and listen to the same stuff over and over again. I truely hate what Dubstep is today. I love hearing Chime and all of the other melodic Dubstep producers actually bringing creativity into a severely watered down genre of music. Chime and the other producers being creative in Dubstep are the producers that give me a slight bit of hope for Dubstep's future.

if this was on any other big dubstep label i doubt they'd let this (at least in the current state) release lol, p honestly dropped the ball on a handful of these tunes (especially with the snare choices on here) i hope he does more dnb tho, the two cuts on here were really good and i wanna see where he can go with the style

This is so so so sad to hear. Doctor P has always been one of my favorite producers, and I'm still excited to listen to this, but really after 7 years I think it's dumb to try to capitalize on a sequel album. The only time that can really work is if it's a year or so after the initial release, but now we just have this project to soil the memory of one of the best EDM EPs of all time :/

I hate it when a producer announces a new album and when it releases it turns out that more than the half are just singles that were released a half a year ago with few added new tracks

If it's an album they can hype it up more than if they only release a few new songs in an EP.

AVM Part 2 feels more like a compilation of past singles than an actual album and that's probably why it doesn't work as a successor to Part 1. I'm not sure if the tracks were even planned to be part of Part 2 to begin with since they've been released since 2018. But if they were, I'm not sure how to think about that. I did enjoy Smoke and Flames, Voices, Give It Up, and Overheater though

Quite a surprise to finally see this sequel come out to such a legendary EP. Tbh, there were quite a lot of generic "headbanging" formulas I wasn't fond of. Probably my favorite track on the album is Back Where I Started, mostly for that sweet, tasty drum and bass. 😋 Overall, a solid collection, but some very weak contenders. 7/10
@flamincheeto4 жыл бұрын
ehh it’s okay. honestly if it wasn’t for the dnb tracks i would hate it for sure. The only good dubstep tracks on here are smoke & flames and give it up. Everything else, especially death anxiety and overheated is garbage. Definitely should not be given the name, animal vegetable mineral pt 2. I honestly expected him to do a lot of throwback tunes and i definitely didn’t expect for it to include songs that are two years old by now. I’ve been bumping cold individual for 2 years so it’s not special anymore. This is honestly a perfect example of the problem with dubstep, rushing tunes, making lackluster ideas because riddim kids will headbang to it anyway, being afraid to make any melodies or originality. That comment in the end about people who say dubstep’s changed is honestly on point. It is truly sad, most of dubstep’s pioneers are falling to the loudness war and the toxicity of riddim. The only producer who hasn’t made riddim from the early 2010s that i can think of is probably flux but that’s only because he’s moved away from traditional bass music. I hope we move away from this era soon or else we will just keep getting releases like this
@4.263 жыл бұрын
Dude everything you say here is 100 percent right. I got into Dubstep when I listened to Skrillex, and tried to find artists like him, and when I heard people like Flux Pavilion, and Doctor P, I was like YEAH! Fast forward, and 2 of the people that got me into the genre (Skrillex and Doctor P) began to follow the direction of modern Dubstep, Skrillex with the collab he did with TroyBoi, and of course, the Doctor AVm part 2 LP. Which is why today, I go back to the classics just to tell myself that the loudness rain in Dubstep will be over soon. I look for either classic dubstep songs, or color bass tracks, but I’ve grown to hate Briddim. Long story short, it’s sad what Dubstep has become, and I’m pretty sure it’ll never be as it once was.

Have to agree here, a lot of ideas here seem quite rushed and uninspired. It has made me interested in listening to a lot of older Doctor P tunes though :) By the way, have you considered turning community contributions on? I like writing subtitles for videos, especially in this informative style. Turning them on means that people can submit subtitles :)

Doctor P tried to evolve his sound design the way MUST DIE! did..............but without putting any real effort into improving from experience, or staying true to his style. A shame that instead of having as clean of an evolution as Chime or Eptic from 2016 to 2019, he has instead become as painfully disappointing, as............Protohype. I personally wish he just did what Jantsen did and changed absolutely nothing about his sound since 2011 XD I can't understand why producers always try to follow what's trendy instead of making something good. This Riddim wave is way worse than the whole Trap and Big Room wave from 2013 (Mostly cause it's much much harder to make Riddim sound good).
