Let the doctor man have his little "saved a human life on an airplane" story. He deserves it.

This comment is kind of belittling because he did save his life weather you think the story was a big deal or significant enough to tell. He does deserve it without people like you minimizing the value of what type of saved lives matter. How many lives have you saved?

My entire life I knew the ranch Doritos flavor by the name of "cooler ranch" until one fateful day where I looked at the bag and it was simply "cool ranch" on the label. I felt crazy. Even after verifying for myself that, yes, at one point it was COOLER ranch, it still always disconcerted me. Today, hearing Dr. Mike call it COOLER ranch, I am finally reassured. I am not the only one who still defaults to that. Thank you, Dr. Mike, you have eased a weirdly-specific, no-reason anxiety of mine.

There's a reason the single uncle has a mustache (yep, got one, he's the ONLY uncle with a mustache). I dare you to find 10 ladies who like mustaches. My husband wore one for a couple years when his work wouldn't allow a goatee. NOT a fan. Guys can have whatever facial hair they want, same as ladies can have any haircut they want, but we don't have to LIKE it. I don't like mullets, beehives, the "Kate Gosselin" cut, eye-skimming bangs (my eyes itch just looking at them) and I don't like mustaches. I'm not going to dislike someone with that hair... just don't ask me if your hair looks good.

I had surgery in early August, and the nurse stopped and went "oooh" midsentence, too. She didn't finish her sentence, though, and instead left to find another nurse to show her. She also brought a couple of nurses in training with her to show them a "really good vein". My poor mom (who came with me and was my ride home from the hospital) was so confused and all I could tell her was that my veins decided to be nice today. My mom was over there worrying about me about to have surgery and the nurses were just like "oooh pretty vein to stab".

I was apparently born with a resistance to insulin (they put it down in my medical records but not a single one of my PCPs told me about it, instead they said it's my fault I was fat despite the years of diet and exercise I've been doing since I was 10. I am now 25.) and so I can definitely agree that sometimes eating greens and walking just really is not enough to lose weight. I didn't lose weight until my eating disorder reached its peak and I almost died.

@@jayhay8 It took retiring from a high-stress profession and getting counseling for the trauma of it, having my immune system attack my pancreas with C071d, and finding a medication to help remedy the resulting loss of insulin for me to lose weight. I'd been on diets since I was a young child with little to no effect (poor people can't always afford good food), and even swimming and walking constantly in college only helped me drop a few pounds. The good old American grind mentality is likely a huge contributor to the bad old American weight problem, and high stress triggers hormones that make you store fat if you're genetically predisposed to it. It takes more than just effort for many people.

Thank you Dr Mike for improving the safety for nut allergy sufferers on long distance flights. When I recently flew with my partner we were pleased with the staff and all the allocations and support they gave us for his allergies and for my ADHD. I honestly think that my experience on a flight was mainly anxiety provoking because of my medication and if I had something to help me sleep (and maybe more time for me to adjust to the new dosage for my ADHD meds) it would have made me less prone to meltdowns at LAX. Overall, I appreciate how your work has improved a lot of lives.

I’m case anyone was wondering: the reason bacteria is the plural of bacterium is because it is in the Latin chart 2nd Neuter ( which takes um as nominative singular and a as nominative plural). A lot of Latin rooted words use the singular us and plural i as they are in the more common 2nd Masculine chart.

The dorito one is actually more likely to shock royalty bc after the distribution of shelf stable dried spices instead of fresh ones, it became cheaper and easier to access so the poorest classes were able to season food. As it became more prevalent nobility slowly used fewer spices other than salt bc they wanted to show off how high quality the meat was, the logic was that peasants needed to use spices to mask the flavor of lesser quality cuts of meat that may be spoiled and taste Bad therefore fewer spices highlights luxury meat. It’s dumb but it happened 😂

My husband had fungus on one of his toenails, and couldn't be bothered to do anything about it. Then, one day, he injured the toe in question, and asked for my first aid advice. It was clear that he was going to lose the nail, since it (the nail) was broken, and half lifted off the toe. So, besides getting things to treat the injury, I also ran to the pharmacy to grab a topical fungal treatment. Since he was able to actually apply it under his toenail, the treatment worked really well. His new toenail has grown in most of the way, and there is no sign of the fungus.

Funny thing about my penicillin allergy. I recently needed anti-biotics and I enjoy seeing the extra step of mental gymnastics to figure out which antibiotic to give me. I haven't had penicillin or amoxicillin since whenever they discovered that I had the allergy. My oral surgeon was like "okay you need antibiotics are you allergic to anything?" and of course I stare at my mom so she says yea she's allergic to penicillin and amoxicillin and the guy was like what was your reaction to it. Apparently I got hives whenever I had it and they settled on clindamycin. The extra step of questioning necessary for me was so very entertaining when the left side of my face was swollen to probably twice it's normal size and I was in constant pain due to my wisdom tooth site getting infected

As an Optical Lab Technician at a large private practice in Canada I can confirm, for eyeglasses yes, it is monopolized by a few frame distribution companies. These companies have now in recent years also taken majority shares in lens manufacturing companies, physical optometry/dispensing stores and online retailers, completely spreading over the entire market. It is making it hard for independent optometry/dispensing offices to keep up with access to new technology and low pricing. This even trickles down to affect medical equipment sales and tech support for independent practices.

@@LunaticDesireIt's not AS bad in Europa (yet) but most of the big optometry chain stores are owned by the same parent companies. If you need glasses I would advise to avoid the chain stores and find an independent store. Usually better service and product quality anyway.

@@TheAverageDutchman I'd advise to buy glasses at a state clinic, not even at independent stores. If there's an ophthalmology department, there usually will be a store right there. I order new lenses for my glasses at a state ophthalmology clinic store and they're usually three times cheaper than the same lenses at any other private store, while maintaining the same quality.
